RosettaStone:
true. I guess you could interpret my posts that way, if you totally ignored that the examples I gave for out of control theists were all muslims behaving badly.

Fr._Peter_Fitznuggly:
Yeah, they are definitely possessed, especially if you've seen where they've been.
But I'm also willing to bet that that act of forcing a Jewish child to bow at a Christian prayer would not happen today, and if it did, you can bet there would be a lawsuit and a firing (the job kind).

Mattamox: So you say we should ignore the problems in the US because there are bigger ones elsewhere? I have to say the US is better than most, but it could be made better.

I did not suggest we should ignore problems, but if you ask I will point out that the U.S. has the best climate for both the fundie and the soulless atheist. It is a razor's edge we walk between the chasm of state-supported religion and the chasm of state-supported atheism. Fall to one side and you get the Taliban or Iran under Khomeini. Fall to the other side and you have a totalitarian state like Communist China or Soviet Russia where religions of all stripes are thought to be subversive and are persecuted ruthlessly.
The only thing that can stave off either is if there is continued open and rational communication and debate between the disagreeing viewpoints.

I'm still scratching my head wondering just where the heck you guys get the idea that I'm flirting (I just got home from work btw). I'm confused.

Ah fark it. I'm just gonna do what my husband requested of me and get some housework done. :) If you guys don't like the content of my site--oh well. No one's putting a gun to your head and making you read it.

What did you expect as a response?
A burning bush?
A gigantic, bearded guy showing you his tushie?
George Burns?

If God is, then God is super-physical and super-temporal.
Don't expect a recognizable response in a familiar cause-and-effect chain of events.

Besides, prayer, per se, is a wonderful and beneficial psychological exercise by which we express and recognize our inner thoughts. Making that "phone call" is it's own reward.

I was just over in the DC rally thread (posted 3/14), and based on two of my posts, one poster referred to me as a "Christian Conservative Right Winger".

If he only knew!

Anti-religious fanatics are just as big a pain in the butt as religious fanatics. I don't want anybody's blinders strapped on my head.

It did happen and the lawsuit was filed in 1997 and settled in 1998. Read about it at http://www.holysmoke.org/sdhok/jewish.htm

If there's a god then he's an ass. That's pretty much how I go about it. If evil is created by being imperfect, then why wouldn't Mr. omnipotent make things perfect? Is he just trying to dick us around?

I grew up in a rabidly fundementalist church. 2 weeks ago the pastor literally did a sermon on the evils of harry potter.

Also, the decrease of salintity of the oceans is proof the planets 5000 years old.
