For the dozens of liberal dumbasses who keep asking about when the right started caring what France thinks:

When Sarkozy became president and acknowledged American exceptionalism. You know, the kind of thing you mock and the kind of thing the Obama administration works feverishly to undermine.

At least the French president gets it.

NeverDrunk23: Those little bastards are ready to kill at a moment's notice.

Sorry, I couldn't bring myself to quote those two paragraphs. They were too paifull to read and write, but that was the best response I've seen in months!

Thanks for that.

Only idiots get fooled by kiss-asses like Sarkozy.

I never cease to be amazed at the capacity for doublethink in the GOP. Sure, Democrats are vulnerable to it as well, but no one shifts gears as quickly or as effortlessly as a modern Republican.

I'd ask what sort of libertarian, but I suspect that you'd just continue hurling insults as a means of hiding your ignorance.

FishingWithFredo: who keep asking about when the right started caring what France thinks: When Sarkozy became president and acknowledged American exceptionalism.

When a foreign head of state accepts and promotes the idea of American Narcissism, an idea long historically contextualised (new window) and debunked time and time again, especially when that idea hurts instead of helps American ascendency (new window), its not a good idea to rally around him or her. You can bet Sarkozy has his own agenda for pushing the U.S. forward. I wouldn't kiss his ass just because he knows we love to kiss our own.

I think I can guess without too much effort (new window).

Debunked? By some chick and some guy who wrote a book. As opposed to the prima facie evidence of 230 years.

Only in Fark-World.

We've been the pre-eminent world power for 230 years?

Only in Fark-World.

FishingWithFredo: As opposed to the prima facie evidence of 230 years.

Uhm. For most of that time you were viewed by most of the world in the same way that Americans look at Mexico. It wasn't until after both World Wars that America came out ahead, and even then you still had the USSR neck and neck with you. After the USSR started to crumble from within due to a mishmash of corruption, incompetence, and willful ignorance, it took until the tech and economic boom of the 90's for the US to become "top dog" globally in any form other than the jingoistic rhetoric from politicians, and even that is only true if you focus purely on per capita earnings rather than QoL indexes.

So where are you getting these 230 years of prima facie evidence?

So what? If we threw a hissy-fit every time a French President said something bad about an American president, France would still be German territory. Hell, it's practically a rite of passage at this point.

Megain: i keep seeing this, so i figured i'd look around a little. the closest base i can find is in/near tehran, which looks to be 50-55 miles away. i'm probably missing one in qum, but i sure can't find it. either way, not exactly what i'd call next to a military base

There's a munitions storage base located just to the west at 34 deg, 24 min, 51 sec N and 50 deg, 48 min, 00 sec E. Look for all the bermed bunkers inside a fence.

There's an Army weapons test facility to the north at 35 deg, 05 min, 47 sec N and 51 deg, 03 min, 16 sec E. Look for the 1000 ft test building oriented NE/SW.

There are others, but these are both within 15 miles of the place.

Somacandra: Obama could earn my undying love by looking Sarkozy square in the eye and telling this to his face

Are you expecting Obama to crouch down, or for Sarkozy to stand on a chair?

Hollywood's rally around admitted rapist Roman Polanski has resurrected the limousine liberal, reminding much of middle America why they hate the left.

It figures. On the eve of the Democratic Party's greatest triumph-when, after decades of pangs and false alarms, universal health care has finally crowned-a coterie of powerful liberals go ahead and hand a real bullet to Republicans who have otherwise been firing blanks. The limousine liberal-that Democrat who puts privilege before principle and the status in status quo-is back, with a cocktail of issues-pedophilia, Hollywood, France-so volatile that Roger Ailes could not have scripted it better himself. As the Democratic Party makes its final push for a health-care overhaul, some of its members are reminding Middle America why sometimes it's so easy to hate the left.

FAIL.

Face it. It's in your DNA Libs!

I kinda read through the thread
Printboy, GaryPDX, Black kitty skinnyhead and Whidbey and said to myself here comes FAIL then looked closed and stoked by how right I was. Granted, there's really no pride in guessing something as reliable as the rising and setting of the sun.

We chided them for not supporting our ridiculous crusade, for not stroking our war-on, only to discover that, well, they were right. "Freedom Fries," "cheese-eating surrender monkeys," etc., and somehow they're the ones to whom we shouldn't listen?

How stupid do we have to get before we start throwing out into the street jingoistic morons like Krauthammer?

dedekind_cut: Or how about the fact that the French are one of the major exporters of civilian nuclear technology and stand to gain from a (possibly peaceful*) nuclear Iran?

peaceful nuclear Iran?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

They have to be peaceful non-nuke first... denying the Holocaust and threatening to destroy Israel is not a good start.
