He had a permit. He didn't threaten anyone. I'm not a gun guy, but it seems to me the Geniuses overreacted.

I am actually surprised that more people haven't done this inside an Apple Store. As someone who just had to make an appointment with a "genius" I find this somewhat amusing. Why is it exactly that Apple seems to be the only company on the face of the planet that requires you to schedule an appointment to return an item?

Even just thinking about walking into that godawful place is making me feel stabby, and calling any Mac user a genius just makes it worse.

If you have a permit for a concealed weapon, it has to stay concealed. When you brandish or intentionally reveal it, you are no longer within your rights under concealed carry law. Especially when you say you are going to discharge your firearm. This guy was an irresponsible gun owner and should be punished.

The Angry Hand of God: Even just thinking about walking into that godawful place is making me feel stabby, and calling any Mac user a genius just makes it worse.

They invented the word genius, so it means what they decide it does. They also invented the word "invent", so it doesn't mean what it used to which is to say it's always meant what Apple decided it does.

He threatened to discharge his weapon in mall, with the intent to scare the employees. He was charged with "aggravated menacing, causing fear and harm". Seams pretty consistent to me.

I don't have an iphone - so I'm getting a kick out of all the trouble everyone has with them and the Apple store. - LOL
I do carry - but the point is to KEEP it concealed until your life is in real danger. Flashing it is a no-no.

/I don't own any gadget or computer made by a fruit company.

The Angry Hand of God: "Why is it exactly that Apple seems to be the only company on the face of the planet that requires you to schedule an appointment to return an item?"

They don't require it. They provide the option, to spare you the hassle of wasting time in a line. You're perfectly free to show up whenever you want, wait a half hour like you would at any other store and then do your transaction.

The first time I swung by about dead pixels on my ipod I didn't have an appointment. While I was waiting they mentioned I could schedule an appointment and since my time isn't completely worthless, that's what I've opted to do ever since.

It isn't so much that it is a fantastic idea as much as it would be impossible to change at this point because:

a) Good luck telling a mob of armed citizens they have to give you their guns.
b) Good luck trying to change the constitution. (or at least get accused of trying to do so by right wingers. Hell, they don't even need to try and they can stop the Dems from passing a damn thing.)

Who thinks that this guy deserved to get arrested, yet bringing guns to presidential rallies while holding signs that reference violent overthrow of the government is okey-dokey? Show of hands, please.

He should have gone in with a sign that said "I'll shoot this iphone"

He wouldn't have gotten in any trouble

The last time I went in they told me that I had to make an appointment and there was no way I could be seen today. Maybe this was just a one-time thing, but there were still plenty of employees just walking around who could have probably helped.

Geniuses are for tech support and repairs. If you're there for a straight up return, just talk to a salesperson or a manager. No appointment necessary.

But they weren't geniuses, they were mere scholars.

Unless your in a busy city where appointments book up three days in advance and having an appointment is a necessity.

Dude, I'm guessing the very same people who think the guy shouldn't have been arrested are the same people that think it's okay to bring guns to presidential rallies while holding signs that reference violent overthrow of the government. And I'll go a step further and say that some of those libertarians would think it's okay to walk up to the President and wave a gun in his face while claiming the 2nd amendment allows that.
