Hey Smitty, where did you get the part about someone removing the construction barrels? Did you read the same article that I did? When I first heard this story, they reported that the driver was the one who moved the blockade.

This story could only get better if an earthquake caused the walls of the sinkhole to cave in burying the car completely, and then the city fines the owner of the car for parking illegally.

I was gonna guess 1980s New York, but yeah.

2009-09-29 06:40:41 AM
Glad this isn't in LA.

We've had a rash of sinkholes the past few weeks. Apparently it's because of our new water conservation method (sprinklers 2 times a week) so our old pipes get strained.

FTFA: "Schiralli said on Monday that the hole was 'closed off before the vehicle drove into it. There were orange construction barrels surrounding it.'"

You must have read another article, not this one. But what you read is true, this story has another level of FAIL to it...

Back when I lived in an apartment, my balcony backed up to a large drainage ditch. We had severe flooding, and apparently some idiot decided he could make that 5' deep low water crossing. Well, his car ended up in the ditch directly across from my balcony, and over a few days I watched the vultures swoop down and pick out the battery, tires, body parts, headlights and just about anything else that could be unattached from the car. By the time it was towed from the ditch it was basically a shell. Amazing.

You could leave eight cents in a tip jar on the far side of the moon and it'd be gone by the next seven a.m. Tip jar too.

I didn't hear that angle when I viewed it on the local news. If that is the case, then it's no wonder that the city won't remove his car.

This is definitely not how it was reported locally. Eyewitnesses had seen teenagers moving the barrels. Funny part is, that is in the middle turn lane and not sure there is a turn near by.

/drove on that street many times in the distant past. Over near where Harry's Farmers Market was on Satellite Blvd.

Actually this is closer to Lilburn than Duluth which is even lower on the rung, I would still place Duluth above Lawrenceville.

I blame the zoning boards for giving them too much low income apartments, it used to be a nice county now its a complete shiat hole. Everyone is moving north away from the element of shiat head thievery that has gone on down there the past 15 years, too many leasing companies that bought these apartment complexes decided to take government money and ruin the neighborhoods with people who have no respect for themselves or anyone else.

Double Fark - now his neighbors are saying he planned the whole thing and drove into the hole on purpose so that he could sue the city.
