I take Bosco the wonder dog to work with me every day. I doubt I would do the same with friggin' fish, laser beams mounted to their heads or not.

2003-03-12 07:41:53 AM
I must admit, that's an unnaturally good looking dog you've got. That's a super-dog.

Really!

Bosco should enter rooms accompanied by a personalized theme song.

Hours of fun with a Siamese Fighting Fish

Matt XE: Bosco should enter rooms accompanied by a personalized theme song.
That is funny you should mention that. In the winter he sometimes wears a bomber jacket and all my friends start doing a "da da da daaaa da" as part of the Underdog song.

He really is the coolest dog in the universe.

Fish suck.

How about a 3 inch leg-span Chilean Rose Tarantula?

He's not really a whole lot of fun these days. Spends most of his time in his hidey-hole and he's not eating at the moment because I think he's gonna molt soon. When he does eat, however it is seconds of entertainment as he grabs his prey (crickets) and impales them with his half-inch fangs.

No, I don't handle him.

Weaps - I've always wanted one of those. I'm pretty terrified of spiders, but tarantulas are just too cool to pass up. I actually don't know if they're legal to sell yet in NY, but I've noticed that virtually every pet store in Jersey is stocked with the things. Though the one you've got seems much larger than the ones I've seen at the stores - I'm guessing you must've had it for a while.

Matt XE I've had him for almost two years now, and he is just as big as when I got him. My wife got him for me from, get this, an internet mail-order site. He cost us $10 and was shipped USPS in this little container with holes and stuffed with damp paper towels. Prepare the terrarium, put the container in and open it up. Eventually he comes out and you can retrieve the container. I'll see if I can dig up the site.

That's insane - I can only imagine how many times orders were placed for unsuspecting old ladies. That could be a new form of terrorism.

I dunno about the fish being more fun... I put puppies into a fishtank full of water and I had hours.. er.. minutes of fun!

2003-03-12 03:02:23 PM
They may be more fun, but they don't taste as good.

2003-03-12 03:03:15 PM
Just go to the Grand Canyon in the fall, as you drive up there in the fall, you will see tons of black tarantulas migrating. They are all over the place, freaked me out.

Anybody ever see the ads they put in the 60s coic books where you could get a spider monkey for under a $100? I wonder how many of them carried Ebola, AIDS, etc.

Matt XE
By the way keep up the articles on fish and other exotic animals. theyre funny and informative. I think I'll go to my local library to find out more about that weird shrimp.

I was under the impression (for whatever, random reason) that he was going to put a couple of these bad boys together and watch them fight o the death.

Oh well...can't win 'em all.

2003-03-12 03:08:56 PM
Yeah, but puppies don't die in a week..

2003-03-12 03:09:02 PM
I had a beta a couple times. They were pretty cool, would flip out when you held up a mirror.

2003-03-12 03:10:12 PM
Siamese Fighting Fish are not actually 5x more fun than puppies.
Observe:
Puppies -91% fun
Siamese Fighting Fish -91% fun

As you can see, puppies win.

Does anyone else feel like cleaning your ears with a q-tip is one of the best things in life?

2003-03-12 03:13:18 PM
Monkeyknife-

That took me a few minutes.. heh heh...

2003-03-12 03:15:33 PM
I've had both and I would have to disagree. You get a much better reaction out of your dinner guests when you tell them their eating Puppy Pudding than when you tell them the fish they are eating could be toxic.

Way back when as a kid, we got an aquarium for xmas/bday/something or other. So, my mother, brother, and I went to the fish store to buy some fish. The kind young man assured us that the Beta we were looking at would live in harmony with the 4 neon fish we wanted to buy. So, in good faith we bought all 5 and put them together to live happily ever after in our new aquarium.

Of course, after the first week we found 1 neon fish belly up with an eye missing. We cried, fished (hehe) him out and thought it was just an accident. A week later, we found a 2nd neon fish in the same manner (eye and everything). Something was not right in fish-ville. After 2 more weeks we only had the Beta fish (which I sort remember him looking pretty pleased with himself).

The moral of this story is never trust a kind young fish man.

Yes, my girlfriend does not understand why i can sit there for ever staring off into space while i twist and twist q-tips in both ears for extremely long periods of time. Its like sex, with out all the sex stuff, but with all the good feeling.

It's like massaging your brain with soft white cotton.

STOP! You're going to hurt yourself. Don't you know you should never put anything smaller than your elbo in your ear! My God Stop before someone loses a brain!

My fish tank actually has lasers (and purple lights) in it. It's pretty damn
cool when it gets setup correctly.

Wow - Bosco is the cutest dog I've ever seen. I'm jealous.

2003-03-12 03:29:00 PM
I was so expecting a piscean bloody fight to the death. I feel cheated.

2003-03-12 03:29:04 PM
If siamese fighting fish are more fun than puppies, then obviously they're playing with the wrong kind of *puppies*. :)

Bye.

2003-03-12 03:29:22 PM

The most annying pet I think anyone can have is a gunea pig. They really don't like to be held for too long, shiat nonstop, and are nervous enough to piss on you the second you pick them up. And they can smell up their cage worse than Staten Island.

On the other hand, the most devious pet would be a hamster. The only time I've seen more escape attempts was when I watched Cool Hand Luke and the Shawshank Redemption back to back. Those plastic Habitrails for hamsters are nothing except their version of a halfway house.

Here's a pet monkey ad...far less than $100, only $10.95!

Skink...

I think Richard Gere (aka, The Human Habitrail) would disagree with you on the hamster thing.

2003-03-12 03:37:45 PM
I can feel the guys pain, I have a stupid fish that is supposed to be a good "community" fish according to the petstore people. The fish has eaten every other fish in the tank, even killing my oscar which was bigger than him. I think I'll feed the damn thing to my cat.

2003-03-12 03:37:57 PM
skinink

interestingly enough guinea pigs are one of the few mammals other than humans that cannot manufacture their own vitamin C.

I think we got through six for my sister before we found this out.

2003-03-12 03:38:46 PM
Yeah, fish are pretty exciting.

2003-03-12 03:42:49 PM
Id want the pacu... tell some kids to stick their hands in and play...

2003-03-12 03:43:16 PM
Between me and my girlfriend we have like 15 or so of these fish... they are really neat to fight

2003-03-12 03:43:19 PM
I think Siamese fighting puppies are the most fun though.

2003-03-12 03:43:33 PM
ahhhh boring fish...that is until you stick a mirror up to the bowl...watch Mr. Docile Fish try to tear the side off the tank to get to the "other" male fish.

"interestingly enough guinea pigs are one of the few mammals other than humans that cannot manufacture their own vitamin C."

I never even realized other mammals produced Vitamin C no problem. Do they know why we can't produce it on our own ?

Matt XE:

Post some pics of Mr. Paku. NEED TO SEE A KILLER!!

2003-03-12 03:47:01 PM
Siamese? As in twins? As in Olsen twins?!

*fap fap fap*

(No, that's the sound of a happy dog wagging it's tail! Really!)

2003-03-12 03:50:12 PM
A friend of mine got me one of these fighting fish for Christmas.

Because they're notorious for being solitary and combative, I named it Yolanda Schlessinger, after Dr. Laura's dead mom.

And when Yolanda dies, I will leave her in her tank for four months.

2003-03-12 03:51:00 PM
Googled and found this

Quite interesting.

2003-03-12 03:53:10 PM
My Pacu took down my oscar !!!

2003-03-12 03:54:59 PM
Though not more amusing than a cute puppy, my Beta, Sebastian is pretty funny when you hold the mirror up to his tank. Now that is a spazzy animal! And he's still kickin' after almost 2 years, not bad for a fish.
