NICEVILLE -- Police responding to a traffic crash at 1 a.m. on Sept. 20 found a woman lying on the sidewalk next to a fire hydrant.

The husband of the 49-year-old woman said she'd been riding their Segway when she turned around and hit a hydrant. That knocked her off the Segway and she hit her head, according to the Niceville Police Department incident report.

She was taken to the hospital.

She got feared into the whelps!!!

Sunrise and Sunset are both around 6:50 am/pm now; so technically, it was closer to dawn than dusk.

Ever notice that when you're talking about Segways it's hard to change subjects?

When I was in Europe, I met a fellow traveler with a broken arm. Turns out he broke it trying a sweet jump off a mound of dirt. Apparently they freak out in mid-air; or he just had no skills.

On two separate occasions, I've seen people on Segways talking to a group of people who aren't hip enough to roll around from place to place; they have to use their legs like a sucker. Anyway, both times the question came up, "isn't it hard to keep your balance on that thing?"

And both times, the rider scoffed that it was easy because the Segway was designed to keep your balance for you. If you shift your weight, it adjust to keep your center of gravity supported. Then they give a brief demonstration, rapidly shifting their weight back and forth, until the Segway says, "OK, dumbass, I give up!" and dumps their sorry ass all over the pavement.

The very thought of it never fails to put a smile on my face.
