Whoever made the help system should be shot. No pun intended either. Next next next next, OK GET ON WITH IT! It even had the gall to tell you to refer elsewhere to the only thing you couldn't figure out on your own - what the elevations corrisponded to.

Hehe... wow, .50 cal is an evil looking farker, isn't it? I can't believe that wasn't taken out in the assult weapons ban looking like that. Speaking of, isn't the .50 cal the gun that you can find depleated uranium and armor piercing bullets for at Army Surplus stores.... why would an individual EVER need thatr kind of fire power? Unless you were planning on knocking over a armored car...

I don't understand, I put the crosshairs right on top of the target, but the bullet went somewhere else! I think the game's glitched.

No, you just don't understand that this isn't a game. Its made to be as real as possible. See that little windsock in the background? One of the things that can throw off your shot is a bad crosswind. Simple.

Any gun nuts want to explain what this MIL (Mil/mil. ?) stuff is? I get the basic idea of 'tuning' the scope to match the conditions (wind, alititude etc) but I'm not sure how you're supposed to range the target without test firing.

2003-03-11 07:22:37 AM
Ok, I just went and actually tried this. It r0x0rs!!!

Of course, you have to be a pretty good shot to be a Druglord.

I don't know why folks get so worked up about the .50bmg. There are dozens of cartridges that are just as powerful and some with a better reputation for accuracy at further ranges.

IMHO the military adopted .50 rifles to save development costs and to take advantage of existing civilian technology. It was a smart move- we have nearly 90 years of experience with the .50bmg and I'm sure it's adoption was millions cheaper than a new or foreign cartridge.

52 on the third try. I need to get a life.

Also keep in mind the distances involved.. Not many people can hit a damn thing at those ranges. The amount of variables that are insignificant while popping beer cans at 30 yards really add up. Stuff that the sim doesn't take into account, like waiting for the barrel to cool, muscle tone, whether you're breathing, heart rate, all of which must be taken into account when shooting at 1000 yds.

However, for just pure mil-dot training, it's not too bad. For those that really wanna know how, check this out

No thanks, when I shoot things on my computer I'd prefer it be something other than targets - something like aliens, or monsters, or priests, or small children.

"wow, .50 cal is an evil looking farker, isn't it? I can't believe that wasn't taken out in the assult weapons ban looking like that.

Why, oh, why do people insist on trying to ban guns because of the way they look?? It makes absolutely zero sense. The most obvious reason is that they haven't been used in a single crime in the US. So why ban them? It's just nervous liberals hiding in their armored limos that fear the people they've been constantly farking over. They're the ones who want to ban these things.

Speaking of, isn't the .50 cal the gun that you can find depleated uranium and armor piercing bullets for at Army Surplus stores....

Um, definitely not depleted uranium. And my dad's old .308 deer rifle will send a round zipping right through body armor too. Almost any bullet can be armor-piercing, depending on what kind of armor it is. Some bullets just have more penetrating power than others. Yes, there are some .50 bmg rounds out there that were designed to optimize their penetrating power, but it's not really relevant for most applications, as the standard jacketed lead round is pretty darn penetrating.

why would an individual EVER need that kind of fire power? Unless you were planning on knocking over a armored car..."

Um, just like the simulator: long-distance target shooting. Why do you assume people would want it to commit a crime? There have been exactly zero crimes committed with 50bmg rifles in this country, and they still get massive flak. I can't imagine how much more they'll be demonized if someone ever actually decides to use one in a crime....

To add to what Adm_crunch was saying, the .50 BMG was originally designed for use in a machine gun (BMG = Browning Machine Gun). The BMG was not only used for anti-personnel, it was also used for anti-aircraft and against light armored vehicles.
Just for reference Here is a picture of a .50 BMG next to a 30-30 Winchester.

and here's a shot of a .50 BMG on the left, and a 7.62x51 (used in the AK47) on the right.

The .50 BMG has been tuned over the years for long-distance shooting. Skilled marksmen with state-of-the-art equipment can put a bullet on target at ranges of over 2 1/2 miles.
