Even if the guy is suicidal and mentally ill, he's assaulted officers 19 times. What the heck are they supposed to do with him besides solitary confinement?

Well, if it's driving inmates insane, that's not really the point.
On the other hand, he's probably an attention whore trying to get out.

I think it says more about you than him that you refuse to use any sort of pronoun. Almost like you have a problem with executing people, but have no problem with it if you simply redefine them as not human anymore.
Come on, embrace your beliefs and say it with me: "This person needs an execution. Keeping him alive serves no useful purpose."

For example, he cuts his groin to derive sexual gratification from treatment by female nurses, testified Katherine Clover, a clinical social worker.

That takes some dedication there.

Quite an accomplishment.

I did watch a documentary once that had a guy who spent maybe 7 years in a supermax, and had gotten out and stopped being a criminal, and he spoke at length about how messed up in the head he was, particularly his interactions with others, as a result of being in that environment for years. It's kind of scary that we take messed up people, mess them up further, then release them.

Prison should be:

One big room for EVERYONE

Food and water for half the population

Where you go until you are executed (lesser crimes punished with fines and/or time in stocks/pillory)

Underground, in old mine shafts, where it will be a steady 60 degree year-round, and difficult to escape from

Inmates forfeited all of their rights once they were convicted. This piece of trash is fortunate that he is fed and clothed by the state. And I'm sure that inmates would never think to file frivolous lawsuits against the state. Noooooo, being as they have so little free time on their hands I'm sure they save all of that for personal advancement.

incarceration should be about time to reflect on your crime, and the loss of liberty, not being subjected to a living hell in which physical and psychological torture are doled out with reckless abandon for human rights or social implications.
it is damaging to the inmates psyche, the guards mental health and i guess most importantly, society does not benefit from spending heaps of money training criminals to be more violent and more dispassionate.
It all seems rather retarded to me, but then again im not profiting from a fat government contract
1% are locked up here (in the US), would you want one of those guys to come out of that place and live in your neighborhood after what they have been through?

Prisons aren't frightening enough to keep people out of them. Maybe they ought to go back to shackling people to the walls, dirt floors, stale bread and stagnant water meals, abysmal lighting, and guards whom are encouraged to lash out often and physically. A less comfortable prison experience is a less visited prison experience. Obviously rehabilitation hasn't been working, I think it's time for pure punishment again.

Only a few of them have eaten much in a few days. With my properly equipped vehicle, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Of course, some of them may get executed early if they try anything.

Or, just keep tossing them in until max capacity is reached, then toss in some gas grenades and/or collapse the entrance.

Supermax, they're like, for profit, right? Wouldn't it be in their best interest to keep prisoners in, perhaps by extending their stay through charges of attacking guards? "Yes, the prisoner kept repeatedly hitting my fist with his face, causing me to feel unsafe in my workplace..." Ok, add another 25 years to his sentence... I'm not saying that this is what actually happened, but if you deny potentially psychotic inmates proper care and treatment, are you not CAUSING them to behave more aggressively? This would again be in the prison's best interest, as there will always be prisoners to bill for...

Potatoe: incarceration should be about time to reflect on your crime, and the loss of liberty, not being subjected to a living hell in which physical and psychological torture are doled out with reckless abandon for human rights or social implications.

Explain the physical torture endured in prison. Psychological, I can sort of understand, but that's a different discussion.

Potatoe: it is damaging to the inmates psyche, the guards mental health and i guess most importantly, society does not benefit from spending heaps of money training criminals to be more violent and more dispassionate.

Moving an inmate to a Supermax is usually reserved for the type of person that can't be much more violent and dispassionate.

Potatoe: would you want one of those guys to come out of that place and live in your neighborhood after what they have been through?

I don't believe that anyone going into a Supermax is coming out on anything but a stretcher.

There's always the option to beat the everliving shiat out of the inmate the next time he attacks a guard. I mean really lay it on thick, skull fractures, take out an eye and a few teeth. Shatter both kneecaps. Eventually, he'll either learn or he'll be too crippled to fight. Either way, problem solved, right? Right?

I was in the drunk tank once. It was cold and in the next cell was a woman who got a DUI who wouldn't quit screaming about how her life is ruined. And I shared my cell with a mexican who didn't speak any english besides the few curse words he would occasionally yell at her.

Yea, it seems like a place where the guards don't care and actively harass the people. But I guess thats what I get for having beer muscles.

/I was still drunk when they released me the next day...My credit card was missing when I got my wallet back and there was exactly 2 dollars left for bus fare.
