Why the fark is this such a big deal?!?

I don't want to investigate them any more. Maybe 20 years ago...

"The evidence in this case strongly suggests that CBS had access to video delay technology at the time of the 2004 Super Bowl," the commission said Tuesday in a brief to the Third Circuit Appeals Court in the Janet Jackson Super Bowl Reveal case.

Yeah, as did every other major TV network at that time (or for the past 15-20 years) did as well. Clearly they were not utilizing it, however. So basically they're going to nail CBS for failing to use a time delay to prevent a sort-of boob shot they didn't know was going to happen?

This is like in the 1980s, when the Meese Commission spent 18 months doing
nothing but watching and rewatching all those horrible porno movies to judge
whether or not they were obscene.

I'm sure the FCC will be rewatching that video again and again and again with
the benefit of the latest visual enhancement. And plenty of handiwipes.

My God. Countries in Europe have boobies in they're TV commercials. It's embarrassing (for me as an American). Guess which countries have the least sexual assault cases?

We are really at heart a puritanical nation. Which doesn't make a lot of sense since most of us don't have ancestors who arrived on the Mayflower.

2009-09-16 09:50:37 AM
It's this ultra-religious, fear your sexuality mentality that is drilled into these crazy church people from day one. Get over yourselves already.

2009-09-16 09:51:44 AM
If a TV network can fudge answers to a governmental body about the availability of time delay technology in a Super Bowl halftime show and get away with it after just a five year investigation, are we really a nation, at all?

Couldn't have said it better.

At this rate we should have the torture of prisoners investigation all wrapped up by 2035.

Yeah, the Midwest has been the problem area in this country. The South and the coasts have been examples of calm rational thought.

Isn't our gov't, like everyone else, broke? Unless this "investigation" is either zero-cost or expected to turn a profit, I say we've got better things to do. (Or fine CBS 100 trillion dollars and save the economy, but don't then bail them out for that.)

Fark that shiat. That's one of the reasons I love living in Germany. They don't give two shiats about showing boobies on TV. Hell you see more boobs on regular German network TV on any given afternoon. And none of this blurring out the nips either.

The FCC is becoming more and more irrelevant with cable TV shows becoming more popular. If the programming on Fox moved to FX, I'd only need network TV for Lost.

I'd say they were beating a dead horse, but by now the horse has dissolved into a stain on the concrete. So I guess they are beating a dead stain.

Meanwhile in the UK, Australia, and every other Westernized country they can show full frontal nudity on broadcast TV.

Pants full of macaroni!!: U.S. Children Still Traumatized One Year After Seeing Partially Exposed Breast On TV (pops)
/oblig

According to the 500-page report filed by the FCC, more than 90 percent of the children who saw the exposed breast said they were "confused and afraid."
"Mommy has dirty chest bumps," said a 5-year-old boy quoted in one of the thousands of case studies compiled by the FCC. "She's like the bad lady on TV. I'm afraid Mommy will take off her shirt and scare everyone. I hate Mommy."

Time to take those kids still traumatized out to the woodshed and make some fertilizer. Take the parents as well.

OR the kid's mom is a disgusting hosebeast and he is simply worried for the rest of humanity.

Thank GOD we live in a society that will make damned sure that everything can be censored, will be censored. My thanks go out to the FCC Council, the 85 year old blue haired grandmother, the preacher and the ultra right wing conservative who sit on this panel to protect the sanctity of our christian way of life.

The article comment by wordyninja

"It's over five-years after the fact," I said to my captain as he leaned back from his desk, chomped down on a cigar, and lit it. "Kind of a cold case, no? Any forensic evidence is long gone. Witnesses' memories will be unreliable. Are any of the original investigators still with the department? Hell, are they even still alive?"

"Goddammit, Malone!" He shouted, slamming his hand down. "When I tell you to work a case, you work the case! That boob is still out there walking the streets-- waving its sunburst nipple ring around. Find out who's responsible and bring 'em in!"

"Fine," I said with a grin. "But if I'm on this, I'm going to take it wherever it leads. No matter how high up. And whatever shiat comes, you better back me up." I stormed out of his office before he could get a word in edgewise. I knew I had carte blanche to crack this sucker, as usually. I went to my desk and picked up my two best friends in the world, a colt .45 and a flask of Jameson. One was loaded; the other would do the same for me. I knew by the end of the day, I would need them both. That's how it is when you're with FCC.

/hmmm... wordyninja writes a lot like pocketninja

Sex is an evil depiction of life, we must censor it. Is some manly muslebound guy with a fallusy gun blowing the fark out of people with blood and guts everywhere killing everyone in the worst way possible? Well yeah, that's ok.

2009-09-16 11:54:26 AM
If the FCC can prove that the offending nipple broadcast was "willful" (ie. the network had the ability to delete it on a broadcast delay but chose not to), and not accidental, then they can fine the network even more $$$$.

Hell, we're gonna have to pay for grandma's social security and health care somehow!

2009-09-16 11:59:54 AM
This is all Bush's fault. If he had appointed reasonable people to the FCC this would not be happening.

What's that? The current chairman (new window) was appointed by Obama? You don't say. I wonder what that means?

The FCC needs to stop wasting our tax money on censoring TV content. The networks would end up limiting what they show due to lack of sponsers willing to risk a boycott over material that the idiotic over religious object to anyway. If the FCC stopped censoring TV today there still would only be a slight bit more that would make it on the air. Most sane people, which leaves out the overly religious, would not notice the difference.

The Ultra-religious right wing morons need to get over themselves but its unlikely that they will.

2009-09-16 01:22:24 PM
They should have had a baby handy, because then it would have been 100% legal.

But then I remember when they couldn't show bras on TV, and they played the 'cross your heart bra' on a mannequin every 10 minutes.

2009-09-16 01:31:48 PM
I'm from the Midwest, and I would like to say that this is a gigantic waste of time. In fact, the FCC and the MPAA are gigantic wastes of time and space designed to give unemployable Christian jackasses a job when they can barely dress themselves in the morning. I would imagine when they get home they deal with their sexuality by punching themselves in the crotch as hard as they can whenever they see something that arouses them.

Why do we have such pathetic creatures formulating policy again?
