sleeps in trees: OK this is how it works. One example: Whistler, no one is allowed up or down the highway unless they have a ticket to the Olympics.

seriously? that's farking terrible. Can I still get in with a ticket to, like, a hockey game?

Old news is old. This is nothing new and has happened for a while. And IOC does not equal USOC, just an fyi.

Procedural Texture: This is why I hate the Olympics.

Yeah if this would have been around back in the old days we would have had owens making hitler look stupid or the black athletes in 72(?) raising their black gloves.

F*ck the olympics, I dont know anyone who even follows it anymore.

that was 68 in Mexico City. 72 was when the Israeli athletes were killed in Munich. Awkward...

HansensDisease: Rootbzzr: Where, interestingly enough, you do have free speech rights under the Charter - should you be in Canada, or carry out an activity in Canada, or if the IOC/VANOC oppresses you there, so subby got it right.

Um no.

1) I have no intention of going to Canada to sell Olympic™ merchandise.

2) My government has made no law regarding the matter anyway.

Therefore my free speech is completely unimpinged.

I just impinged it for you.

WhyteRaven74: Anyone remember back in 96 in Atlanta when they were shutting down businesses juts for being named Olympic, even if they'd been around for ages? Granted this was done solely by the douchebags running the Olympics in Atlanta, not the IOC.

They did it here in Vancouver, too. Or tried to. I'm not sure if they were successful.
There's the small matter that we are located just across the border from the Olympic peninsula and mountain range^. You can see it from high points in Vancouver.

Once again, the IOC can choke on a flaming chainsaw, IMHO.

The IOC works for its bottom line. Nothing more, nothing less. And, being an international organization, their interpretation of local laws that might limit their actions is something along the lines of, "Fark off, or we'll go someplace else."

And when it comes to their brand- don't even get me started. I'm surprised Olympia, Washington is allowed to exist.

Well, considering that Hitler popularized the rings as a logo and the torch relay was introduced by the Nazis in '36, is this really surprising?

Yes, the symbolic lighting of the flame is a Nazi ceremony...

Stay classy
