I wonder if they were running any specials on spam.

2003-03-10 08:55:47 AM
hero? more like dumbasses

2003-03-10 08:56:22 AM
Just when I think people couldn't get any dumber...

Where are we all going? And why are we in this handbasket?

2003-03-10 08:56:49 AM
*yawn*

2003-03-10 08:56:58 AM
ha ha. that dog got owned by a leaflet

2003-03-10 08:57:36 AM
I was going to call this frivolous until I read "We have notices up saying we don't want circulars and a bright red letter box right by the gate. We don't want things through our letterbox because it provokes the dogs. We didn't invite anyone on to our property to cause this damage." Now I think it's Safeway's fault.

2003-03-10 08:57:44 AM
i like dogs.

2003-03-10 08:58:38 AM
Anyone who could even think about using leaflets to dislocate a dachsund's spine is worse than Hitler.

</doomed attempt to end pointless thread>

2003-03-10 08:58:50 AM
Stupid dog..

2003-03-10 08:58:50 AM
me too but i could never finish a full one

2003-03-10 08:59:20 AM
I hate junk mail, but I love Safeway...I'm so conflicted.

2003-03-10 08:59:46 AM
dog...crippled...sue...hmmm

2003-03-10 09:00:42 AM
Now THIS is news.

2003-03-10 09:01:42 AM
Safeway has referred the matter to its insurers. A spokeswoman said: “All complaints are taken very seriously... except this one. HA HA HA ha ha ha ha ha! Muffin! HAHAHAHA hahahaha!!!!!”

2003-03-10 09:01:49 AM
They only want the cost of the vet bills. What about pain and suffering?

2003-03-10 09:02:06 AM
"They returned home to find him lying motionless in the hallway. The leaflets in the letter box had teeth marks"

But there must be some other explaination for this!

(I could think of something if I had gotten enough coffee this morning. But alas....I'm running almost caffeine-free today.)

2003-03-10 09:02:17 AM
Not to mention the dog's estimated future earnings!

2003-03-10 09:02:19 AM
Nazis have been mentioned. Godwin's law is invoked. France Surrenders.

2003-03-10 09:02:25 AM
I think Safeway did this on purpose. They must hate this particular dog.

2003-03-10 09:03:25 AM
Our dog used to jump up and eat the post. So we installed a letter cage. End of problem.

And it was a Jack Russell, so it wasn't the smartest Smartie in the tube.

2003-03-10 09:04:24 AM
Damn, broke my own Godwin.

2003-03-10 09:05:05 AM
Dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers. >>Insert obligitary Ron Davies joke here.<<

What chance would this sorry excuse for a dog have against a cornered badger if it's floored by a Safeway leaflet?

2003-03-10 09:06:46 AM
When I saw the headline, I thought, well another idiot has revealed himself, but then I read the article and if it is true that they had a 'no circulars' sign, then screw Safeway, they should respect the damn sign. Make 'em pay.

2003-03-10 09:08:32 AM
This proves my theory: "Dogs is dumb"

2003-03-10 09:10:43 AM
BTW, is the mail different in the UK? Wouldn't it be the postman's fault for failing to heed the sign?

2003-03-10 09:14:17 AM
GoodyearPimp

I'm assuming the leaflets were hand delivered by Safeway employees as opposed to the Royal Mail, otherwise these people really are trying it on...

2003-03-10 09:15:22 AM
ok, i guess this was kind of justified...

but seriously... what kind of person buys a dachsund?

2003-03-10 09:20:40 AM
See, in America, grocery stores don't have the money to pay someone to do that kind of thing (and the 16 year olds they employee would either refuse or give up after 5 minutes anyway). Ah, those wacky Brits.

2003-03-10 09:22:01 AM
Did anyone else notice that the owner in the picture has a broken arm? Hmmm...maybe another lawsuit in progress from falling hams or something.

2003-03-10 09:24:22 AM
youth culture killed my dog, and I don't think it's fair

2003-03-10 09:24:47 AM
I hate junk mail as much as the next person, what if the dog grabbed mail from a legitimate source and was injured? Sue those people too? If your dog is too much of a moron to NOT hurt himself grabbing the 'post' (haha), maybe you should install a real mailbox. Silly brit. *grin*

2003-03-10 09:25:07 AM
This is pretty dumb on the dogs behalf. Sign or no sign they should train their dogs better.

2003-03-10 09:25:54 AM
Crazyeddie

Maybe he was trying to teach the dog how to jump up and catch the post properly.

2003-03-10 09:26:29 AM
Did the dog listen to Baccarach and David?

2003-03-10 09:28:05 AM
Ok, so if they used the word 'mailbox' I would have seen they have one by the gate.. Who uses letterbox? :) Either way, they have duct tape dont they? Block The 'POST' Slot in your door!

2003-03-10 09:30:02 AM
Block The 'POST' Slot in your door!

No, no, no! Leave it there with a small sign saying "do not use", then you can make unnecessary legal claims when people do use it!

2003-03-10 09:31:39 AM
Incidentally, UK -> US:

Mailbox = box on stick by gate, like the ones you guys use. Hardly anyone in the UK has one of these.

Letterbox = hole in door. Don't know what you call those?

2003-03-10 09:36:55 AM
I find this lawsuit frivolous and without merit. After watching Harry Potter everyone knows that the flyer was delivered by an owl.

Letterbox = hole in door. Don't know what you call those?

Obsolite.

More Hydroxycut for you!

2003-03-10 09:58:13 AM
And they didn't care enough about the dog to nail the maildoor closed because...?

2003-03-10 10:01:50 AM
I thought America had cornered the market on frivolous lawsuits. Looks like the Brits are taking a leaf out of our book. Someone PLEASE explain to me how the store chain is responsible for how the post is delivered? Here's a solution for you, dipshiat: Seal up your letter box and STFU.

Letterbox = hole in door. Don't know what you call those?

As a teenager, we called them hose slots. We would insert their garden hose in the slot and turn on the water. Seems kinda immature now, but it was fun back then.

2003-03-10 10:06:56 AM
Given that the leaflet was hand-delivered by someone under Safeway's employ, this is hardly frivolous at all.

Sure, the dog's a pushover and a moron. However, neither person nor corporation has a right to just throw foreign objects into your home without permission.

All the people are asking for are vet bills, if I read correctly. That's not some sort of attempt to get rich quick.

2003-03-10 10:07:12 AM
Tenacious D - for dachshund.

Should have glued the letter slot shut.

2003-03-10 10:09:08 AM
Letterbox = Mailslot (in the US)

2003-03-10 10:18:18 AM
Hmmm... Porno spam resulted in the death of my kitten. Shall I sue?

2003-03-10 10:25:15 AM
Haplo53 You beat me to it. Nice reference.

2003-03-10 10:26:38 AM
Muffin. The dog's name is Muffin. I bet they make it wear one of those gay dog sweaters and little knitted dog booties. They probably also carry it around with them instead of walking it. All the other dogs on the block make fun of it. It probably rammed itself into the door in an attempt at suicide.

Muffin. Geeze.

2003-03-10 10:31:37 AM
The hip-hop and the white funk just blew away my puppy's mind.

I don't understand what you did to my dog.
No, I don't understand what you did to my dog.
No, I don't understand what you did to my dog.
