Pretty sure there's an MST3K episode with 2 shows clumsily spliced into a "movie". I'll have to dig that up later.

Why was Thundarr the Barbarian the first thing I thought of?

Wait, that wasn't an explosion on the moon, that was a planet or something passing between the moon and Earth. Am I right?

Watched as a kid, mostly for the special effects because the plots were dumb. The music by the London Symphony always made me expect I would be hearing The Moody Blues, but they never came on.

You are right: A runaway planet hurtling between the Earth and the Moon!

Used to watch that and UFO all the time! I read that one of the original bullet-shaped cars is in someone's backyard in the UK and he's an asshat and won't sell it to a collector, and it's just rotting away...

I've been watching reruns of that lately. I find I had a higher tolerance for it as a kid than I do now.

The sci-fi writers of the 60's and 70's really forgot that we only advance through porn, didn't they?

I mean, sure those ships have a vague sex-toy vibe about them, but if it can't be used for "badgering the witness" then science can't be bothered.

I use to watch this show on Saturday nights. After the 10 pm news, it was Space:1999, and after that they ran classic Star Trek.

Of course it happened. They couldn't have developed a whole series around something that didn't happen, could they?

What's sad is all the workers killed putting the new, hollow, replacement moon up there. Poor buggers, still floating around...

2009-09-13 10:37:49 AM
I just watched the whole series last winter on my Zen at night...

So many things that I had forgotten or didn't remember the same way.

Dorky as hell, but darn good.

John Koenig has serious anger management issues.

Because back then it sounded reasonable to some people that in the future colored wigs could become part of a uniform. They also thought that Britain would switch to driving on the correct side of the road by the time the series was supposed to be set.

Supposedly that was for protection from radiation, which hardly explains why the guys weren't also sporting purple pageboys.

FLASHBACK! Thanks, Subby. I've got that opening sequence going through my brain. Too young to remember much, but I loved the shuttles. Were they called Eagles?*

Those suits are almost as tight as Col. Deering's -- and Wilma's was tight. They're better because there's more for the eye to be distracted by, like 3D versus the smooth look. Beautiful backside on the chick on the right.

I don't remember any of this :( UFO must have been before my time.

Isn't that show embraced by white nationalists, now? It's kind of hard to look at Thundarr the same way, after white nationalists are done extolling its virtues.

Maybe because they were wearing helmets most of the time? Ahhh... low budget science fiction... gotta love it.

I miss the old SciFi channel when they ran the classic stuff on a regular basis - Time Tunnel, Invaders, etc. Don't see why they couldn't keep showing that kind of stuff and mix in new shows. Used to pretty much leave the TV on SciFi, now, hardly every watch it. The rebranded "SyFy" direction they are going seems to be full of FAIL, not to mention the BS so-called reality shows with morans chasing their tails and freaking out over shadows (aka GhostHunters).

/Really miss SciFi Santa. He was cool.
