As for Nature, this (new window) is the funniest critique of an article written there I've ever seen.

Here's the article that was the subject of the critique. Read it and you'll see that the critique is more or less baseless and the authors of the paper don't come to any of the conclusions claimed in the critique. The paper focuses on the fact that the rates of improvement are significantly different and doesn't conclude that the extrapolations are expected to occur. Indeed, the authors make it clear that they think it's extremely unlikely.

You can read more about the sexual exploits of Russian women in my book - "Nothing but Nyet".

The Russians are so damn cold -- I've heard that they think we're "falsely happy" and "insincere" in the West for smiling at strangers and being friendly to people we don't know, but I call it not being a dick.

I like to smile when I see people, it's nice getting a smile in return, which makes me happy.

I just came here to say that i've got a couple of Psych degrees and it pisses me off that the crap they put in that magazine. People really studying Psychology don't ready Psychology Today. The real studies get published in peer reviewed journals which don't have pictures, shiney pages, or advertisements. Psychology Today is basically Time Magazine or People with a Psych slant to every article.

beelzebubba76: I like to smile when I see people, it's nice getting a smile in return, which makes me happy.

Agreed! It's so disconcerting when you smile at someone just to be friendly and in return you get this nasty glare. I recall a thread about Russians here a while ago where a Russian guy chimed in and said that when he moved to the West, he literally thought that a ton of the people he saw were retarded because they smiled so much.

That said, my husband is genetically Russian (from Belarus), but he moved to the US when he was nine and is culturally American. His parents are much more of the traditional Russian mindset when it comes to friendliness. They're really, really difficult to get along with as a result -- they believe that I'm insincere, and I feel that they're terribly rude.

I'm Indian, and I found it a bit strange initially when complete strangers smiled and me and said 'hi' or 'hello' (moved to Houston in '99 for a masters degree). However, I quickly got used to it and I think it's a really nice and friendly gesture. Makes one feel wanted, and I'm all for it.

/I'm in Denmark now ... long story :)

Childhood friend lived in Russia for a while.
She said their values are just difference.
Monogamy is not necessarily viewed with the same importance there.

That is true for most of my classmates. However, i was lucky enough to get into a graduate school for Community Agency Counseling. But yeah, not much you can do with an undergrad Psych degree. I've got 3 undergrad degrees that amount to me getting a better job at a retail spot. The majority of Psych undergrads eventually end up in sales

This is why you go to Ukraine to meet girls. More or less the same genes, less arrogance and harpiness.

In all seriousness, you don't want Russian whores. My buddies doing graduate fieldwork in Russia have confirmed that this is the case.

I'm disappointed by scarcity of pics & links, NSFW & otherwise, in this thread.

So I'll start it, with a SFW:

coyote1284: So this guy approaches a random woman and asks, "Would you have sex with me for one million dollars?"
The woman replies, "Sure!"
Then he asks, "Would you have sex with me for ten dollars?"
The woman says, "What do I look like, a whore?"
The man says, "We already established that you are, now we're negotiating."

That guy was Winston Churchill.

Lets see...the guy's blog has
"Where Feminists Have Gone Wrong"
"Why modern feminism is illogical, unnecessary, and evil"
"Men sexually harass women because they are not sexist "
"Beautiful people are more intelligent "
"Why are taller people more intelligent than shorter people?"
"Women have better things to do than make money"
"Barbie: Manufactured by Mattel, designed by evolution"

Lovely. Just scrumptious.
