as a former circuit city employee, I heartily endorse this.

Some awesome stuff there, but I'm guessing the price tags are not quite as awesome.

That's funny, the former Circuit City down the street is now being used for a Halloween shop.

2009-09-12 05:32:10 PM
Well at least it's less scary than their previous prices and customer service.

2009-09-12 05:33:45 PM
I bet the employees at the Halloween store don't try to pressure you into paying $20 for an "extended warranty" on your $25 costume.

2009-09-12 05:35:12 PM
Around here it's Linens & Things that get converted.

2009-09-12 05:35:16 PM
The former CC in our area has turned into a outlet store for Disney merchandise.

2009-09-12 05:35:29 PM
Awesome!

Where I live, the Circuit City remains empty, but the former Linens-n-Things two doors down has become a Spirit Halloween.

Shout out to Denver.

Anyone remember that Moo Halloween store on Colorado and Evans? What the hell.

Reinke Bros rocks.

I wonder if the extended warranty on the TV I bought there in December will be honored now?

Yeah my TV went out and I bought the warranty.
That sucks. We can't fix it so here's a torso.
That's good.
But the Torso is cursed.
That's bad.
But it comes with a free appendage!
That's good!
But the appendage is also cursed...

Your_Huckleberry: That's funny, the former Circuit City down the street is now being used for a Halloween shop.

There's a former Best Buy (right next to the current Best Buy) around here that every year gets used for a mega Halloween shop.. and I know for a while they used to run a huge halloween haunted house thing in it too..

I don't see how this really gets to be news, or even Fark. Halloween USAs and such will rent out any decent sized space that they can. And the owners are happy as shiat to rent it out, because there's not a whole lot of people out there that want to rent spaces large enough to have been used by Best Buy, Circuit City, or former grocery store locations.

(we've got a Halloween USA opening just by my house that was a Farmer Jack.. that things gonna be HUGE)

I'm gonna have to check out the ex-CC down the road to see if their Haloween store is even close to that awesome.

2009-09-12 05:45:34 PM
this is a rather good use of a waste of space

also this is rather funny to me, since we have not 1 but 2 former circuit city buildings near me

The original building was just a half mile north of the mall, circuit city closed that one, and opened one in the mall, just a few months before the bankruptcy

Now the mall store has been taken over by a furniture store, but the original stand alone building is still there, vacant.

2009-09-12 05:46:33 PM
Nuts! My old Circuit City is a furniture store. It was weird to go in there again and even weirder to try and work for a different company in the same building.

Ah I-Mockery. It's appearance on Fark marks the beginning of my favorite time of the year

Back in my hometown there is a Linens n' Things right next to the old Circuit City....I wonder which one was graced with the Halloween Shop...But I hate my hometown and don't wish to go back until the holidays.

2009-09-12 05:58:28 PM
The ones by me just turned into PC Richards

2009-09-12 05:59:46 PM
Last time I checked my old store was still just collecting dust. When we closed my coworkers and I joked about going airsofting or paintballing in the store.

"airsofting"? Is that like funboarding?

2009-09-12 06:02:01 PM
Yep, Circuit City near me in Cincinnati is a Halloween shop. They even had someone dressed as a pumpkin-headed scarecrow out front enthusiastically waving a sign.

I can't wait for Halloween! I hope costumes are as awesome as this:

My local seasonal Halloween shop takes over a huge space, but they just rope off a lame little corner. Not the same caliber as the store in TFA.

The one near my Canton house has this parked in front.

Yup, I also remember all of the ex-cons they hired to stand outside and wave at traffic. Nothing beat fat, ghetto Wonderwoman getting windblown near the intersection.

Around here it's the old Walmart (they moved to a new WM Supercenter) and the old AC Moore, a crafts/floral store. But I think the local CC DID become a(nother) Spirit. After Halloween, a Christmas store moves in.

2009-09-12 06:22:18 PM
that store is literally a mile down the street from me.. I think it's time to take a trip.

2009-09-12 06:31:04 PM
Wow, and to think that after all these years I finally discover that Halloween is seasonal and not a year long festivity.

Thanks for that knowledgeable morsel, subby.

/had to do that

In my hometown, some local Warren Buffett opened a CC about three months before they went bankrupt. There's a brand new store sitting in the middle of a mall parking lot, fresh paint, cleaned up the parking lot, new lighting job, the whole thing. I don't even think they had their full inventory in before they went out of business.

But then, what else could you expect from the town that gave you this Fark classic:

Meh. One of the few uses left out there for a vacant big box store or mall anchor. There aren't any new retail concepts yet or companies expanding.

Not exactly sure why this is a story.

Conservatives do, not fundies. That is probably why it always ranks in the top 10 best places to live and Democrat strongholds such as Detroit, and LA do not.

Around the Central Coast in CA they have been using the store as a sort of Flea Market grounds. They advertised the hell out of it but conveniently forgot the 7$ entrance fee.

Oh, ho ho!!! Have you ever been here? In the last nine years I have, there have been a lot of church-driven shenanigans to shut down everything from halloween shops to "porn" shops...the reason I put the porn in quotes is EVERYTHING in those stores is boring-ass vanilla; no hardcore leather, no jackhammer vibrators, no high-quality bondage gear OR videos...NADA.

Plus some of the churches here are VERY pro-...um...Republican. So, they basically go hand-in-hand.

2009-09-12 09:02:34 PM
Our Circuit City became an HH Gregg. Our Halloween store is in an old Bennigan's. Last year they weren't because the bennigan's was the republican headquarters. And next to a Hooter's, no less.

Same here. But instead of Linens N Things, it was a Toys-R-Us.

Which really sucks, because we don't have a toy store in town anymore

One of the big Halloween store chains actually has an outlet here that is open year-round.

So if you need fake blood in May, you're good.

A Halloween store without blowmolds is, well, useless.
