Does anyone know if NASA releases a flight path for the reentry? I'd love to know if I'll be able to see this tonight.

CNN is reporting that the coast guard just fired on it.

Fox heard that report, and not to be outdone by needless, unverfied sensationalist reports, they're reporting that Vandall has an RPG with a mininuke ready to take it dow-EDIT: Vandall has fired 10 mini nukes at the Space Shuttle

I have no idea why they put Kennedy Space Center in Florida. They have incredibly shiatty weather all the time, and are always delaying launches.

Equatorial proximity.

Because most other locations would put their rockets over populated areas during flight, instead of out over the ocean. We don't like big burning piles of debris falling on us, so as a safety precaution it is located in Florida.

They should do more night landings. They did years ago and it made a beautiful streak from one side of the country to the other. It made for great press.

So you'd need to be in Oxnard to see it really well? That's not worth it.

Not really...maybe the annual strawberry festival, that's it.

/Used go door-to-door for a political campaign in Oxnard.
//Walked through some really crummy neighborhoods.
///Also saw some great ones though....like the houses close to the ocean.
////BTW, never eat at the Weinerschnitzel in Oxnard.
//Unless you like having an immediate case of butt soup.

To be close to the equator but able to ascend east (to take advantage of the Earth's spin) without being over populated areas. Hawaii and other Pacific islands were out because they were too remote and removed from suppliers and contractors.

Because there aren't any badgers on the runways.

According to the sonic boom maps the 5:53 landing goes right over LA.

Why not the Brownsville area of Texas then? Or Homestead AFB? If they were serious about the added equatorial boost, it'd be as far south as possible.

Because people didn't want to get hit in the head with crap when the stuff blows up. From Kennedy Space Center they can launch into just about every orbit and not go over land.
