2003-03-08 01:19:59 PM
Political flamebait. Wow, never seen that before.
2003-03-08 01:20:40 PM
He's gonna "rebuilt" 'em, eh?
2003-03-08 01:20:48 PM
Uh, Cheney doesn't have anything to do with Halliburton anymore, fool.
2003-03-08 01:21:06 PM
Kinda off topic, but has anyone here seent he IMAX film about the oil well fires?

It showed how each different country was handling the fires, the russians were using army tanks retrofitted with mig jet engines shooting cannons of water on them.

tre cool

Remember, this is a war for the freedom of Iraq and the defence of the us.

Just close your eyes and keep clicking you heels together and repeating that. It'll come true. Really.
2003-03-08 01:23:26 PM
Uh, Cheney doesn't have anything to do with Halliburton anymore, fool.

And Bill Clinton did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinski.
2003-03-08 01:23:49 PM
Geez, people, I'm trying my best to keep from getting cynical, but they sure don't make it easy.
2003-03-08 01:24:10 PM
Well..! This sure will beat the hell out of that lame geyser article!!

/sitting back to watch
2003-03-08 01:24:26 PM
most people already knew this. we've had riots for weeks about halliburtons contract to rebuild iraq and the conflicts of interest
2003-03-08 01:24:48 PM
>> Uh, Cheney doesn't have anything to do with Halliburton anymore

Uh, how much stock does he own now? i dunno - how much stock does his family and friends own? And subsidiaries? And consulting fees? i dunno - jph knows...?

Welcome to the New Economy, brought to you by the
New World Order.
2003-03-08 01:26:38 PM
Cheney still has stock in Halliburton
2003-03-08 01:26:42 PM
Uh, Cheney doesn't have anything to do with Halliburton anymore, fool.

Um sure he doesnt. You think its that hard to set up an offshore IBC (international business corporation), use bearere shares to hide the beneficiaries, and invest in US securities like halliburton? Might wanna read a book sometimes.
2003-03-08 01:26:57 PM
JPH appearance of impropriety is just as damning as impropriety in politics. And to think that Dick does not get some kick backs for this somewhere is naive.
2003-03-08 01:27:16 PM
Uh, how much stock does he own now?

Go to the SEC and look it up. Hell, Halliburton is a huge company; if you have any sort of broad market mutual fund, you probably own some Halliburton too. Big farking deal.
2003-03-08 01:27:38 PM
Cheese monkey. Cheesemonkey. My brain hurts.
2003-03-08 01:27:39 PM
Hell, wouldn't you do the same thing? Money is$$$$$$$!
2003-03-08 01:28:19 PM
Almost every major company in some way can be linked in six relationships or less to "terrorists", "rogue nations", or Kevin Bacon.
2003-03-08 01:29:00 PM
um......we get 5% of our oil from IRAQ .....

so no, it isn't about "the oil"
2003-03-08 01:29:08 PM
most high net worth people do not invest using themselves anyways, they set up business entities such as corporations, LLC, etc.
2003-03-08 01:29:30 PM
What if we lose the war?
2003-03-08 01:30:26 PM
2003-03-08 01:30:38 PM
Halliburton could rebuild the rigs now and all Bush would have to do is drop the sanctions against Iraq, and they could be in there tomorrow. It isn't about oil!
2003-03-08 01:30:44 PM
Hey Danny: Did you ever consider that Iraq supplies a lot of oil to other countries?
2003-03-08 01:30:45 PM
Hopefully he can rebuilt the headline.
2003-03-08 01:31:33 PM
it's ok folks, they're going to put a plaque up with all the names of US military men killed in the name of liberating the oil fields...err I mean Iraqi citizens. Remeber, it's not about oil is about lucrative construction contracts for Georgie's buddies.
2003-03-08 01:32:24 PM
How many companies out there do you people think are capable of putting out oil rig fires on large scales, etc.
2003-03-08 01:32:49 PM
I used to work in this industry, and in fairness, Halliburton KBR is the preeminent player in oilfield services and one of few (perhaps the only) companies that could even take on a project of such scale.

With that said, prepare for the wholesale exploitation of Iraqi oil resources as soon as humanly possible.
2003-03-08 01:32:53 PM
Lets see... testing Theflyingdutchman's theory

Dick Cheney worked for Haliburton
Haliburton does work on oil rigs
Exxon-Mobile uses Halliburton's services
Exxon-Mobile provides gasoline for Exxon's through out the US
My girlfriend used to date a guy who worked at an Exxon
I farked my girlfriend last night.

OH MY GOD... I vicariously had sex with Dick Cheney!!!! ARGH!!!! much wash penis and break up with girlfriend at once!
2003-03-08 01:33:03 PM
God i cannot wait for this administrations term to be up. I am so going to vote for the other guy.
2003-03-08 01:33:05 PM
Keylock, the USA is the country that refuses to let Iraq sell oil not Iraq. If the US dropped the sanctions oil companies could buy as much oil as they could ship away.
2003-03-08 01:33:17 PM
Uh, how much stock does he own now?

From CNN:
The filing showed Cheney still holds options on 500,000 shares that have exercise prices ranging from $28.13 to $54.50 a share. In addition, he directly holds 189,800 shares. Besides his Halliburton stock, Cheney also had between $2 million and $10 million in deferred compensation from the company.

yeah, just a little more than a mutual fund.
2003-03-08 01:33:31 PM
Remember, if we don't go to war, US Petroleum companies get nothing. The contracts are with France, Russia for the most part and Saddam obviously won't let the US Petro companies in.
2003-03-08 01:33:55 PM
Don't Presidents and VP's have to put their investments into blind trusts? No link between Cheney and Halliburton today.

If Halliburton can do the best job and you don't pick them because Cheney once had something to do with them, then all you're doing is cheating the people of Iraq. How noble.
2003-03-08 01:34:24 PM
See....dubya was right, it was never about oil

If his special interests were in the medical field, we would be doing a lot more "humanitarian missions" funded by the government...
2003-03-08 01:35:07 PM
Yes, all of your are right--an attack on Iraq isn't about oil. It's about gasoline.
2003-03-08 01:35:51 PM
Halliburton knew what it was doing when it made Cheney filthy rich.
2003-03-08 01:35:55 PM
Can someone in the USA please enlighten me on something:

Here in Canada when a minister is elected his private stocks and investments essentially go into a trust which is administered by an arms-length manager who recieves no input from the actual owner thereby (supposedly) supressing some level of conflict of interest as far as where government monies are spent etc.

In the USA is Mr. Cheney allowed to maintain a control over his stocks and investments or are these properties administered by a trust or what? Can't imagine Reagan being allowed to dump all his shares in the University of Grenada twenty minutes before invading, but this is something that gets periodic mention in the Canadian press as far as our own members (heh) but that i've never seen noted in US press (ie: articles like this one)

anyone? anyone? beuler? beuler?

>03-08-03 01:26:38 PM Maximusverus
>Cheney still has stock in Halliburton

So do a million other people. That means nothing. So lets say cheney has stock in Microsoft too, does that mean the Whitehouse cant use Windows on their computers because it would be somehow corrupt? If that company was a viable choice for the job there is no reason to pass them by due to past connections to cheney. This article was typical too, It mentioned a "link to cheney" over and over yet opted not to explain that link or offer any evidence of such a link. So the net affect is that readers walk away with this general feeling that cheney and our government is corrupt in regards to this with no evidence or information to back it up.
2003-03-08 01:36:18 PM
well duh, why do we think we're having this war?

2003-03-08 01:38:21 PM
Corrupt politicians. Now I seen heard everything.
2003-03-08 01:38:38 PM

Gonna play devil's advocate and say that, although Iraq only supplies 5% of the total US oil you are forgetting that Europe pays a hell of a lot more for oil. Hence getting Iraq which is the second biggest oil distributer, next to Saudi Arabia, in Europe equals big cash for any company associated with them. Ok I'm done baiting for a flamewar.
2003-03-08 01:39:13 PM

Mr cheney is allowed to keep his stocks, and stuff.

He decided to get rid of them when he was elected so as to not look like a scumbag(which he is)

Just because he doesnt own stock there doesnt mean anything, all his buddies still run the place, and when he isnt in office they will help him get a nice job there
2003-03-08 01:39:21 PM
Now, does anyone still not "get it" that this is all about the oil?
2003-03-08 01:39:22 PM
ZipBeep, ummm... Iraq would sell as much oil to the US as it could. We are already trading an amount of oil for food and medicine, so yes, they will sell it to America. American oil companies are just not allowed to buy Iraqi oil for money.
2003-03-08 01:40:07 PM
Hey Danny: Did you ever consider that Iraq supplies a lot of oil to other countries?

yes. russian as intrest in IRAQ's oil ....thus, no support from them :/
2003-03-08 01:40:16 PM
If you had read my second post, you wouldn't have wasted time on that BS.
