They think the soldiers were bored and playing a game of quick-draw in their tent. How bored do you have to be that shooting each other sounds like fun?

Wow...not only did he have to kill someone to learn his English lesson, now he gets a lawyer as his punishment!? Where is this place so I can stay away from it! I'm scared of all those misplaced modifiers running around loose!

Next time people are biatching about the grammar nazi folk I'll point them here. It shows that there are dire consequences in not getting English right in the first place.

It is not the other people that are receiving the punishment - for the man in public wearing the skirt, there can be the finger-pointing and the snickering. Sometimes the funny person might say to the man in the skirt hey lady will you do the ironing of the shirt and make me the sandwich.

But on the other side many men like to wear the skirt because the sheep are afraid of the sound of the zipper!

I don't get it. How is "up to life in prison" cruel and unusual? I don't see a minimum sentence for that crime so, going by the information provided in the article, the sentence could be anything between 1 day and life. So wait for the sentence before crying "cruel and unusual".

2009-09-09 08:16:57 PM
Wait, he broke the trust of his comrades, murdered another man, and a life sentence is considered cruel? He should be flogged to death outside of his barracks.

You ever have a friend come up behind you in public and poke you in the back and say, "Give me your wallet!" or something, as a joke?

I don't know what made me think of it today, but earlier I was wondering how many people per year get killed (deservedly, IMO) because they think that shiat is funny, and have friends who are armed or otherwise capable of inflicting sudden severe bodily harm.

Not saying that's what happened here, but it's sort of tangentally on the subject of stupidity and accidental killing of friends, which I was just wondering about today.

Um...playing 'quick draw' is NOT a new phenomenon among bored, idiot, military members.

This incidient is the perfect example of how

A: The evil nazi imperialist wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are mentally destroying innocent, naive people who were cruelly duped into joining the armed forces.

B: The armed forces only appeals to murderous, immoral killers who find a perfect outlet in the evil nazi imperialist wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Take your pick.

OK, I'm trying to figure out the cruel and unusual punishment... it varies a bit from civilian justice, because of the additional penalties offered: dismissal, dismissal with disgrace, reprimand, severe reprimand, reduction in rank... plus the fines can be much higher. Oh, and conditional sentences aren't available (aka house arrest). But, other than that, it's pretty much the same... though a stay at Club Ed (the military prison at CFB Edmonton) is much harsher than a stay in a civilian prison.

Oh, and the CBC got one thing wrong - the panel stayed the charge of manslaughter, they didn't find him not guilty of it (which does make a difference should he appeal).

I wouldn't be even remotely surprised to find out that the military has a greater number of idiots than many walks of life.

1. It doesn't pay that well for the risk, which means the uneducated poor will be drawn to it out of desperation.
2. It would be an ideal job for many violent gun nuts.

I'm not knocking the military or anyone in it mind you, I just see that it would be likely for those 2 groups to gravitate toward that career. No different than cops/prison guards/mall security ending up with too many people interested in abusing authority. No matter how hard the military tries to prevent it, people interested in serving for the wrong reasons will see it as a good option*.

*otoh, if someone really needs to know that their job will give them a chance to fulfill their urge to kill people, I'd rather they be put to use in the military than work in the service industry in some ways :P

Actually, my English professor IS hardcore. Once she chased down a guy that robbed her as she was getting money out of an ATM. She chased him to his truck and, since he had locked the door, she jumped on the hood and tried to punch out the windshield. He started to drive off so she jumped from the hood and, as she did, she bent the antenna all the way to the ground. Then she called 911 to report it and told the operator the police would recognize the vehicle by the bent antenna. She later found out the guy was high as shiat on crack.

/she's certainly not young either
//yes they found the guy and got her purse and it's contents back
///unfortunately not the money

The lawyer is going for "cruel and unusual" because throughout the trial, he was told to STFU, and the entirety of the evidence against his client was that everyone in his platoon knew that those two idiots liked to play quick draw. If you go to court martial, you're presumed guilty.

I don't think she counts as a troll, actually, as it doesn't seem she's intentionally trying to upset anyone. Confuse, sure, but she's not mean or insulting. I get quite a bit of amusement from some of her posts, actually.

Then again, I have about half a crush on her based on that picture she had on her profile a few months ago (yeah, I know, doesn't show the face) and the fact that she's been so goddamned consistent about this whole thing. It's like, metatrolling, almost. Her posts are odd to the extent that they'll draw the trolls out.

I don't buy the whole "this is real, I have brain damage" thing, though.
