Never trust the NATO airstrikes. NEVER!

2009-09-08 04:44:52 PM
This is a hard one to get up in arms about since you're dealing with stolen military goods. It's one thing to bomb a wedding, another to bomb the fuel the enemy stole from you.

2009-09-08 04:45:33 PM
Maybe we DID kill some civilians. Maybe we didn't. Teach the controversy.

ArkAngel: So they were receiving stolen goods hijacked by a terrorist group? Civilians? Maybe. Innocent? NO.

In a country like Afghanistan, where almost everything is financed by drug money and the black market is a way of life, there's no such thing as innocence.

But death? That's like me saying every person on Fark who has illegally downloaded a song or movie should have to go to jail for 3 years and pay $250,000 in fines.

Yeah, right.

If you have stolen property, don't be around when the owner comes looking for it. Using even your pretty bad analogy I would point out the scorched earth tactics of the RIAA.

I love this FTFA: The NATO announcement came the same day a Taliban car bomber attacked an international convoy near the entrance to the military airport in Kabul. The chief of Kabul's criminal investigation department, Abdul Ghafar Sayadzada, said three Afghan civilians were killed and six wounded.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast, the third major attack by insurgents in the capital in four weeks.

There's an 'international outcry' over the death of 'civilians' caused by a NATO strike, but the daily, random bomb blasts from Fark's muslim heroes don't merit so much as a peep - not even when they blast mosques (that no doubt house lots of korans).

Simply amazing.

I still can't figure out why they hate us! Mayhaps we need more violent intervention in their country.

The only way they could have gotten killed is if they were standing near the hijacked trucks.

If they were standing there, it was their own fault.

It doesn't matter if you want to label these people that got killed as innocent or not. When the stated goal to victory is to 'win the hearts and minds' a development like this is a huge setback for the campaign in Afghanistan.

NATO bombs it's enemies! Who knew!

Not a clever idea anywhere but even less so in a warzone full of soldiers. I heard soldiers are funny about machine gun fire that doesn't come from their friends.

ArkAngel: So they were receiving stolen goods hijacked by a terrorist group? Civilians? Maybe. Innocent? NO.

The Taliban murdered them. The civilians were lured to a site the Taliban/etc. knew would almost certainly be the target of a military strike so that the ensuing deaths could be used for propaganda purposes. The civilians were only guilty of greed and/or stupidity. And possibly theft. Then again, maybe Afghanistan is enough like "The Road Warrior" that it really is justifiable to kill people for siphoning your gasoline.

Because of the WTC attacks,

We are NEVER leaving Afghanistan.

Really,
never - ever - ever

We will always control that country for as long as we and they still exist.

MasterThief: Gato Negro: /aren't all jihadis civilians?

Only when they're dead.

Hi, i'm a USAF veteran who taught classes to aircrew about LoAC.

The jihadis are unlawful combatants. They give up their protection as civilians when they take up arms.

If Al Quida (sp?) has a bomb factory under the big black box in Mecca, or under a hospital or an orphanage, it's fair game.

If a jihadi is standing in the middle of a room full of the dewy eyed puppies and is standing next to the Mona Lisa, he's fair game.

If a civilian takes up arms against our soldiers, the soldiers are allow PROPORTIONAL RESPONSE. If they are throwing rocks, we can use tear gas and batons. If they come with knives or guns... open fire.

There is a VERY GOOD REASON for this policy... it is to prevent human shield BS. War is bad enough without assholes like AQ not wearing uniforms and hiding among civilians. The LoAC is designed to minimize damage to civilian structures, places of cultural and religious value, hospitals and the like. But when bad guys hide among the innocent, the innocent suffer.

Gunderson: "Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity"

Funny thing...

Peace is the result of the bad guys being unable or unwilling to force their will upon the good/indifferent. Peace lasts exactly for as long as the good are vigilant and prepared, but only if they are willing to ACT.

Force shiats on reason's (and compassion's) back.

Bad people are bad because THEY DON'T CARE. They don't care about your witty sayings (that prove nothing). Stalin didn't ask for a vote. Hitler didn't worry about public opinion. Saddam didn't fret on election night.

Branga: Local officials have said civilians were among more than 50 killed, but there have been conflicting claims over how many.

I still can't figure out why they hate us! Mayhaps we need more violent intervention in their country.

Only certain groups hate us. You should look into a subject before speaking about it. Sometimes it is better to appear ignorant that to speak and remove all doubt.

In this case, look at the group that hates us: The Taliban and AQ. Imagine if those groups were not present there. Wouldn't Afghanistan look much different? Would there be bombings (by us or them)? These groups are the problem... not us. Your comment makes about as much sense as blaming the Allies for WW2. Though i suppose we could have just let Hitler do as he pleased... then our hands would be clean, right?

Bullshiat.

Sometimes saving someone's life means killing the person who is threatening them. If you don't, you're criminally indifferent, you're an accessory to the crime. Even if the law doesn't get you, morality will.

rastjr: Okay, have we shot our wad yet? Do we feel we have repaid those brown people for 9/11 yet? Is our phony compassion and desire that they live under "democracy" be sated now?

You're a child.
