Authorities pulled their bodies from the water Saturday during a bass fishing tournament on Lake Okeechobee.

Guess the authorities won then, at least on poundage.

WTF?

Alcohol possibly? Lots of the stupid?

Wow. I was thinking that it couldn't be a joke about them drowning until I clicked the link.

:(

People, wear your PFDs, even in low amounts of water.

The men apparently fell from their boat shortly after the start of the Christian Team Trails Fishing Tournament.

Maybe they were trying to walk on water.

"Neither man was wearing a life jacket."

Most important part of the story. For some reason I'm surprised a fishing tournament didn't require them to wear life jackets.

2009-09-07 11:23:21 PM
Damnit, if you're not going to wear some sort of PFD, at least learn how to farking swim before spending time on the water.

They just needed to be Saved Again Again.

And now they can take lessons in how to do so by the guy who made it famous!

Which reminds me of a joke...

Jesus and Moses are walking around in Heaven one day. They pass by a fountain, and Moses says, "Hang on. I want to see if I still got the ol' touch." He waves his stick and the water in the fountain parts. Jesus yells excitedly, "OK, put it back, put it back! I want to see if I still got the ol' touch!" Moses puts the water back, Jesus gets up on the edge of the fountain, takes one step in and, ker-ploosh! He sinks in up to his waist. As he climbs out, cussing (taking his own name in vain), Moses says, "Hey! Take it easy! That was before you got the holes in your feet!"

FTFY. Second article says they were in 4.5 feet of water. Only thing I can think of is the son fell in backwards and hit his head on a rock, knocking him out. Dad dived in after him, not realizing how shallow it was, and hit his head, too.

I suppose it's also possible alcohol was a factor, but since it was a tournament that strikes me as unlikely.

Family members said 67-year-old William Reed and his 38-year-old son John Reed were experienced fishermen. Authorities pulled their bodies from the water Saturday during a bass fishing tournament on Lake Okeechobee. The men apparently fell from their boat shortly after the start of the Christian Team Trails Fishing Tournament.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket.

I'm gonna take a wild guess here, and say that "experienced" and "smart" are not the same thing. And go further out on a limb and speculate that "alcohol was involved" was part of the police report.

This.

I had a friend who died in shallow water in Florida while transporting a boat by himself near the coast..Not wearing a vest, apparently was dodging a bee or a wasp (was very allergic), fell overboard, hit his head.

Why the hell did this get green lighted?

...it isn't even remotely funny. Two people died in a boating accident. The guy could have had a heart attack and fell in - his son died trying to get him out of the water.

They could have been acting silly and got into trouble...even stupid acts rarely deserve this result

I will also take a wild guess, and say that if you're fishing in 4.5 feet of water, your first thought isn't to strap on a life vest. I will agree with your other guess about alcohol, however. The other article mentioned the guess about possibly getting tangled up in the plant life underwater, also.

It's because of the fickleness of fark... if either of the two deceased had even the most remotest connection to fark, then there would be wailing and gnashing of teeth over their deaths, a paypal account would be set up in their memory, no mockery would be allowed in regards to their death, etc.

But since the deceased are in no way connected with Farkistan, then all jokes, mockery, etc are on the table.

Farkistan. It's a very fickle place. It's something you learn to live with if you're to stay here for any length of time.

I have money on "son fell out of boat and was knocked unconscious" and "father died of heart attack in subsequent rescue attempt". No matter how drunk and how redneck you are, they can handle 4.5 feet of water.

The thing is, they're probably Christian, and even if they're not they drink a beer that we find to be inferior, and even if they don't they might be sexually conservative, and they might not even be Obama voters. Point is, if they're not Farkers, and if they're not related to a Farker, then they probably have something wrong with them that makes them not worth caring about.

Should Farkers where something like the Medic Alert bracelets? Instead of listing 'allergic to penicillin' have 'Fark account 6676' listed so that we can be properly mourned in Farkistan in case of an untimely demise?

It seems like these guys were past winners of the tournament. Something is fishy about this. I suspect jealous competition modified a fish finding underwater sonar device into a focused acoustic weapon.
