Court records say in early June, the girl made Jell-O tainted with lamp oil.

Lamp oil? Did Montana get sucked up in a big temporal vortex and land in the middle ages?

Oh, Montana, right. Nevermind.

Maybe she was trying to turn pops into a genie.

This tainted Jell-O you've given,
I give you all a father could give you,
Take my tears and that's not nearly alllllllllllllllllllllllll...

The article states that she tried to get her father to eat it over a period of three days.

Where did she ever get the idea the Jello was a food substance?

I think once you hit the "trying to poison you" stage in your relationship with your child, it's ok to go ahead and end that relationship.

I'd never let her back in my home.

I am of the opinion that smacking the crap out of the kid at that point is justified.

Then kick them the hell out.

Lamp oil is still used in things like those tiki torches that supposed to ward off mosquitoes and those scented lamps:

Am I the only one that thinks the article was poorly written?

The girl and her father had recently quarreled because he revoked her privileges for missing curfew.

So she no longer has the privilege of missing curfew?

That might be exactly what she wants and needs. You have to wonder what would drive a 15-year-old to do something this drastic. And why is she addicted to something, already at her age?

Sometimes kids are just a bad seed and they go evil for no reason at all. but I have to wonder--where's mom? What happened to this kid before this incident? Maybe a lot of things that never got a whisper of attention.....

Might be the best thing ever if she was taken away from Dad forever, but I have a feeling that he's one of these "caring" types who will come right in and keep right on "caring" for her, whether she wants it or not.

Well from my limited experience with Firebreathing, Lamp oil is rougher on the system than Bicardi 151, but nowhere as bad as white gas. IIRC the most notable effect of ingesting lamp oil is an almighty case of the Runs for a few days.

Good God, I worked on the Cosby Mysteries when I was an intern for NBC in New York back in 1994.

That was the same summer I got to watch an un-aired pilot about Navy SEALS staring OJ Simpson. The write up on it had info about him undergoing combat training including knife fighting and everything.

/The more you know

No, actually it isn't clear. I changed the preposition to highlight the fact that the statement was unclear. As written, it could be read either way. Privileges was insufficiently described, which led to the poor wording.

It should have been something like: "The girl and her father had recently quarreled because he revoked her (driving/TV/whatever) privileges because she missed curfew." Or "The girl and her father had recently quarreled because she missed curfew, so he revoked her privileges." The second one is still not great, but it is absolutely clear what is meant.

I have never regretted having no progeny. I had a vasectomy at age 32, I highly recommend it. If you're male.
