In before the global warming debunkers.

I could've guessed as much. I heard on the radio on the way to work this morning that parts of northern Minnesota hit 27° last night. Twenty. Farking. Seven. It's barely seventy in Minneapolis right now. And it's still AUGUST.

I'm just gonna go ahead and curl up in the corner and start whimpering now if that's okay with everyone. Might as well start now and beat the rush.

2009-08-31 05:31:32 PM
I have the windows open here now in Southern Indiana, and it would normally be 95 degrees with 90% humidity at the end of August. I was already concerned about the winter!

"The almanac, which has been published since 1818, issues annual forecasts using a formula based on sunspots, planetary positions and the effects of the moon."

Yeah, I'm not that worried.

CtrlAltDelete: Yeah, I'm not that worried.

Well, to be fair, they also pay pretty close attention to those furry caterpillars. So there's that.

Furry caterpillars are indeed awesome.

hmm..what to get though...

2009-08-31 05:43:55 PM
It reached 90 today. Where's this cooler weather?

2009-08-31 06:33:33 PM
Not even into the 90's here, and lows in the 60's. Usually much hotter.

So judging from 20 years experience with East Texas weather...

Who the fark knows.

Right now, in Chicago it's 64. And I am not complaining.

They must be right. I tossed some chicken bones and got the same results.

Good. I want every goddamn mosquito and deer tick in Pennsylvania to die a cold, lonely, frozen death.

2009-08-31 08:45:15 PM
I am not looking forward to the cold. I really need to move some day.

biatch, biatch, biatch

2009-08-31 08:46:52 PM
101 here today, so I'm still sticking with global warming as a fact.

2009-08-31 08:46:53 PM
Well that's good to know. I was worried that it would be all warm and balmy this winter.

2009-08-31 08:47:35 PM
Ice age in 2012....
/It's from global warming...

2009-08-31 08:47:45 PM
I'll just listen to Leon Redbone and Zooey Deschanel singing "Baby, It's Cold Outside". That keeps me warmed up.

2009-08-31 08:48:04 PM
Is there any study that shows how accurate the farmer's almanac is in retrospect? Curious because my mother swears it's on the money.

Now, this is Global Warming that's going to make it unusually cold, right? Just like if it's an unusually warm Winter, that would be because of Global Warming, too? Can this Global Warming thing cure cancer as well?

2009-08-31 08:48:51 PM
I hope they are wrong.

/Currently 63 in Chicago
//winter here sucks

2009-08-31 08:49:35 PM
Crap! I hope not! Last winter sucked here in Seattle. We're just not prepared for snow. There are about 3 plows in the whole Puget Sound region.

And I work at an airport. I'd rather see al-Quaida members than snow!

2009-08-31 08:49:44 PM
Forcast calls for 40's tonight. Barely reached 70 today. But am I riding my bike? Noooooo

2009-08-31 08:51:11 PM
They could very well be right... broken clocks are right twice a day, after all.

Haven't they predicted extra cold winters for a couple years now? Keep predicting the same thing and eventually you'll be right...

2009-08-31 08:51:13 PM
I don't know about the science, but the animals here have been acting odd. The Hummingbirds are getting fiercely territorial as they put on weight for migration. The deer are coming out of the mountains and into the valley floor, that kind of thing.

I'm thinking three weeks before we are into autumn here.

You want a prediction about the weather, you're asking the wrong Phil. I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life.

Pfft, wussies. I live in Alberta. About 100 k north, polar bear curl into balls whimpering.

As long as it stays warmer than -45F, without windchill, I'll be fine. I delivered newspapers during 7 of the 8 1996-97 blizzards so not much phases me anymore.

2009-08-31 08:52:50 PM
This is the coldest year in 3,000 years. But guess what, next year they will tell you it was in the top ten warmest years ever.

Chicken Little controls the statistics.

2009-08-31 08:52:54 PM
Southeast will be mild and dry.

I've sowed 10 different kinds of peppers for winter this week so this is good news for me.

Yay heirlooms.

Nice, I have frost on the windshield this morning, last day in August and frost. Low 40's this morning and expect the same tonight. Reported to be the coldest summer in 100 years here on the news last weekend.

Bring it on! I hate hot weather.

2009-08-31 08:57:24 PM
From 1940 to 1970 it cooled precipitously, giving many people cause to believe we had reached the peak of a 400-year heating phase, which is a regular and well-proven phemomenon.

From 1970 to 2000 it warmed up again, giving rise to the current "Global Warming" hysteria which has been co-opted by charlatans to frighten the masses into giving up money and freedom in the mistaken illusion they are doing good for the planet somehow.

From 2000 to 2009, temperatures have been holding steady or falling slightly round the globe, negating predictions of the doomsday clique, and much of the previous decade's hysteria has been chalked up to bad science, wishful thinking, or just outright fraud.

One big factor in the hoax has been the collapse of the USSR; they used to take regular readings of the weather, but when they went broke that was one of the first things to go. Rather obviously, if the coldest nation on earth quits transmitting data and the lack of these readings is not factored in, the "average" global temperature will appear higher.

For the short term, we can expect temperatures to flatten out at a higher-than-average level for the next 20-50 years, then begin a century or more of erratic but steady decline.

When that happens, expect the heirs of Al Gore to take full credit for the "progress" they have made in "saving the planet," in much the same way that the rooster takes credit for the sunrise.

\\\ it's all poppycock.

The squirrels have started harvesting early this year.

Also, it is damn cold in Minnesota for August. Boourns.

We get El Nino again this year here in California, I won't have to go up to the mountains and water my cannabis so goddamn much. Also, I hear Farmer's Almanac aint nothin to plant by.

/Been hiking in 90-100+ degree temps for the past month to get to the plants without irrigation
//Plants are getting baked though and wilt when it's real hot

It's Cold!

2009-08-31 09:01:31 PM
First day of spring here in Australia (we calculate it from months, not equinoxes/solstices), and winter has been rated as the warmest in recorded history by our weather bureau. Some parts of the country have recorded their hottest day of the year in August (remember, August = last month of winter so it's supposed to be the coldest).

We're looking forward to a drier and hotter summer too.

/just to mix it in for those arguing that cold weather in Nth America is proof there isn't GLOBAL warming.

2009-08-31 09:03:38 PM
Eh. Work in a cooled meat room for a while and the cold stops bothering you. You feel it and all, but it gets easy to shrug it off.
