I'm not sure if I really care about this. I mean, it was once a week. Why couldn't the complainers just go watch the sunset another night?

/or are residents from local houses complaining? If so, then I sympathize with them, and the drum circle members should be executed by firing squad.

"If you're holding a drum you're getting a $250 ticket"

Civil disobedience. Show up with your drums, sit around in a circle, and don't play them.

Yeah, that'll show 'em. I bet they won't file another noise complaint when you aren't making any noise.

This is why, liberal as I am, I farking hate hippies. Idealism is not a valid political strategy.

MacEnvy: Yeah, that'll show 'em. I bet they won't file another noise complaint when you aren't making any noise.

This is why they should bring camcorders. Just sit around in a circle, holding the drums and not playing them, having a regular conversation at regular volume.

I hate hippies, too. But I've never actually seen where it's a crime to hold a drum.

I watched the police hand out citations to a couple of hippies with drums in Rittenhouse Square (Philly) last summer. 2 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon, there were at least 15 people hanging out enjoying their music. Sure they smelled a little, sure they might not be productive cubicle dwellers, but dammit they were entertaining.

Jerkoff cops. Go to North Philly and bust asses.

They should just record themselves and play it nice and loud, but without drums

Sounds like they need to treat it like a concert or festival, and not an informal get together.

/if other places do it and have no problems...
//...does this mean their drumming sucks?

sit in a circle and play slide trombones?

sit in a square and play digeridoos?

get a dozen bag pipe players at 5 in the morning?

One solves the other. If they'd just farking SHOWER, they wouldn't need the patchouli.

How would this be a way around the noise ordinance?

GreenAdder: "If you're holding a drum you're getting a $250 ticket"

That seems a bit excessive, a bucket of soapy water will usually make 'em scatter. Patchouli on the other hand is a form of chemical warfare. I would support waterboarding for anyone caught in posession of it.

Fine with this. I'd also support tasing, pepper spray or hobbling as appropriate punishment.

I would argue that idealism is as least a valid political strategy as making up bullshiat and lies and spreading them as if they were truth to try to scare people into thinking your way. And the GOP has been doing that for a long time now...

Why can't we skip the fine and just start clubbing these fools. They don't even respect america or the freedoms that soldiers have died to protect. This is like spitting in the face of the framers of the constitution. The british didn't tolerate this kind of crap and niether should we.

It's a public park, shouldn't they be allowed to do that so long as it is a reasonable hour? Drum circles aren't as loud as say, a rock concert. The people living near the park should have had a reasonable expectation of noise before moving in, are we going to stop children from playing loudly as well?

/don't care for hippies, or drum circles.

Count me among those calling for an end to patchouli. By any means necessary.

Can we do this for those damn kids and their buckets here in Chicago as well?

I prefer the Roland HPE-450 Drum Circle Machine. Much more reliable and preprogrammed with the samples of more than 1,000 different drums.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt and went and RTFA. Still don't see why they're getting busted. 50 drummers might seem like a lot, but I don't see how it's out of hand.

Then again, it's Canada. I have no idea if they are guaranteed the rights to assemble. Out of spite, I'm not going to google it.
