Mmm, Schlotzky's. Closest one around here is in Peoria, though, and I'm not willing to drive that far. Yet.

A Schlotzky's original and jalapeno chips are particularly delicious when consumed in the afternoon sometime between 4:19 and 4:21.

Wow. 400 stores for only $28.5 million? That's a hell of a deal.

I prefer Which 'Wich, despite the ridiculous name. Best chicken pesto sandwich I've had in a long time.

I met the second owners at a music festival in Texas, in '82. Complete dicks they both were, glad they went bankrupt.

Seriously. The gubmint could just buy them for poor people to live in for like $90k each at that price. Plus they could eat the leftover food and take the money out of the cash registers.

When Hurricane Ike hit last year here in Houston, after about 5 days of eating nothing but nasty tuna fish and crackers (no power, no refrigerator, no A/C), I decided to see where I could go to find a cold drink and some decent food.

Schlottys was the only place I could find, and it was the best damn regular turkey, jalapeno chips, and cold diet coke (with EXTRA ICE) that I've ever had. Pure bliss.

Winner of best comment!

"I used to work at a Schlotzky's in my teenage years. I used to have sex in the cold storage locker with a few lady friends! LOL Sorry to hear of her death. I had a blast working there!! The location I was at was in a shopping center that had a real good steak house on the property & on fri & sat nites there would be a line out the door at this resturant. I would go over hustle up some customers and escort them accross the center to our sandwich shop & go back for more peeps!! GOOD TIMES!!"

We don't have one around here, and they closed the one near the in-laws. Not sure if anyone pointed it out yet, but man, they make some good sammiches.

geekasaurus: Well, Yuma's claim to fame are its zombies, and of course, the Territorial Prison. Well, now you have the USMC base there as well. But are they the ones responsible for bringing the zombies there in the first place, or were they sent there to get rid of the zombies?

And the Chupacabras. Can't forget them, either.

I seek out the Ma and Pa shops with regard to sandwiches, however if made to chose my favorite chain, I'd go:

They closed all of the Indianapolis stores :(

I used to love the turkey club on sourdough. The closest one is in Memphis or Nashville I think.

By coincidence, I was just getting ready to go there after reading this article.
It's a 30 minute drive but I don't care, it's worth it!

You have a prison with a bunch of rocks, lots of cacti, (peyote) and hot indian girls.
Compared to texas' mc D's fed cows, and inbred illegals, you have lots.
(bbiam, flondie is knocking on my door. Prolly wants to borrow 20 bucks for a bucket o' fried chikn' to feed her kid cuz she maxxed out her lonestar card buying meat for illegal immigrants selling breakfast tacos to construction workers so she can get continue "dipping water").She can't ho' her kids out anymore because of cps,so she has to make due.

I would guess most of the stores are privately owned franchises

HIGH-POWER Schlotzky!

2009-08-29 02:56:47 PM
I'd never heard of them. Checking, I see the nearest one is 218 miles away, in VA. Add 2 miles and I'd have a choice of locations. The one in Ohio's over 100 miles farther than that. (I'm in SE Pennsylvania, btw.)

Looking over their menu the only tasty thing that stands out as being out of the usual mainstream around here is the reflex use of sourdough. The usual for this area is Italian loafs, with the variations usually just being in how flaky/crusty the crust is and whether or not it's topped with seeds.

Push comes to shove, though, unless I'm feeling lazy, I have plenty of access to great ingredients and make the best sandwiches I'm likely to eat.

They're always loaded with diced olives. If you forget to say "no olives," you may as well throw it away.

Do any of you farkers know anything about retail/anything? They don't own, rather they lease the spaces. Big word. LEASE.

They lease the buildings, generally, but own the franchise.

I'd kill for a good deli around here. I don't know why... You'd think with the Arsenal and John Deere employees traveling the country and being exposed to real food, more stuff like that would open up. Instead, we get Hungry Hobo.

And quit your biatching. You have In N Out Burger. That makes up for the fact you have to live in Yuma... Almost.
