Haven't there been a crapton of cases where some fugitive assumes the identity of someone who's been missing for a long time?

If it's actually her, this is img1.fark.net, otherwise it's img1.fark.net.

What'd the bartender say?

2009-08-27 01:41:19 PM
The bartender says, "I'm going to need to see some ID."

2009-08-27 01:41:55 PM
She should have ducked.

That was a strange line from the article " Her stepfather said he watched a stranger pull up and yank Jaycee Lee into a two-toned gray sedan as she kicked and screamed. "

I really want to know more, did he chase them down, follow, call the cops immediately? Seems to be way more here

The mother, father & FBI confirmed it's her

Oh gosh, this so rarely happens. I hope it's the real deal for her mother's sake.

Did anyone else reading the article seeing Dugard confuse that for Duggar? I was wondering how the clown car noticed a runaway from a herd that size.

Had to google to correct my error there.

Somewhere I read that he was 2 blocks away when she was grabbed...

Haha, how exactly is this a "break" in the case. She walked into the F'ing station on her own.

I was reading "dugong," which would have also been weird.

Yes, Yes & Yes

He was watching her from about 2 blocks away from up on a hill. He could see her, but not get there fast enough to do anything about it. Police responded very quickly, but there was no trace of her or the car.

And now I have something in my eye.

2009-08-27 01:47:51 PM
So was she blind or what? I mean she had to be, right? Cause it's a big freaking building, how could she miss it?

/way too bored and trying way too hard

From what I remember, & this came up a couple of years ago in 04 when they dug up the yard of some guy who lives in Walnut Creek but has a home in Truckee the step-dad went on the chase while the mom called the cops. If it happened today they'd close Hwy 50 in both directions. A lot of people always thought the parents killed her.

I'm curious to know what she's been doing all this time. I assume she's been living with her captors and at some point was convinced enough that she was their child and decided to stay with them. Or she's been locked in a basement, though her stepfather said it didn't sound like it.

Usually a faker will assume the identity of someone where people who knew the actual person could detect and reveal the fraud. This is not an "Anastasia" situation where the family was long dead.

Besides even if everyone who knew the girl was dead today, today we have DNA and far better record keeping. No faker could remotely hope to remain undetected.

I absolutely agree.

It shows that there is always a glimmer of hope for parents that have missing children.

This. If there's anyone out there with a missing child, this story should encourage you that maybe, just maybe, your child is alive getting raped in someone's basement.

I'm interested in the follow up.

From the ABC News article:

No DNA test has been done to confirm the woman's claims, but Probyn said his wife told him that she remembers her childhood. Plus, he added, the FBI likely wouldn't have upset his wife unnecessarily unless they were pretty sure.

Right, because the FBI is a flawless syndicate of snuggly, caring individuals, who have never jumped the gun on anything....

And it's not like details of the missing girl's childhood were, say, available, in archived newspapers, school directories, websites, and other stuff....who needs a DNA test?

/Jeez!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess she doesn't look anything like the "age-progression image" in the article.

I would like to see an actual image beside one of those "age progression" images.

I want to know more about this as well because after I read that line I thought that I had missed something and read it again. There was no mention if the step-dad tried to run after these people or if he called the police right away. It seems that if he had called the police right away then maybe these people would have been caught, he witnessed the abduction and had a description of the car. What's missing here?

glassa: I'm interested in the follow up.

She has been basically kept in a basement, and escaped yesterday neighbors says they only ever saw the "kidnapper" coming and going from the house.
