Um hasn't everyone seen a pic of one over the years? It's one of the usual species that makes it on most collections of odd looking animals.

Yes, Virginia. It's a salamander.

Wow, an Axolotl. We had one in a tank at school. I'm more interested in the Wolverine newt in the linked article.
When attacked, the Spanish ribbed newt pushes out its ribs until they pierce through its body
Seriously, WTF?

the facts are somewhat fallacious. Axolotls DO reach maturity if conditions are ideal. Usually they don't because it is more energy/organically efficient just to breed in the larval form. It's called Neoteny.

Also, totally adorable.

For all these people out there that believe in evilution, why do you want to constantly save these endangered species? They shouldn't be alive (even if humans over hunt them, that's still part of the "survival of the fittest") if they can't survive in nature. What would have happened if someone saved all the dinosaurs? Ridiculous (evilution, that is).

Hmmmm.... well practically speaking, the biosphere needs diversity, without it it becomes more fragile, susceptible to diseases that wipe out the few extant species etc.

From an emotional point of view, do you want your kids to grow up in a world without tigers, polar bears, penguins and axolotl?

There's evolution and survival of the fittest, and then there's realising that if we put our minds to it we could fark up the entire planet and leave ourselves farked in the process.

Dude, he was calling it Evilution. It's either a troll or a lost cause.

Yeah, but I thought a calm, factual response might actually disappoint him as he was clearly hoping for some sort of vitriol.

Just because you're able to theorize or describe a phenomenon doesn't mean that you're necessarily going to throw your hands up and not try to intervene along the line if possible.

For example, all computer models show a Category 5 hurricane heading toward your city which is layed out essentially like a bowl. It will be there in 48-72 hours. You're not going to just stay there and chalk it up to "nature doing it's thing" are you?

Bad example.

Not bad. Used a maddeningly stupid but oft-used argument. "Evilution", though, while a clever play on words, kinda gave it away. I'll give you a 6.5/10
