Zack is ridiculous. Too bad he plays for a steaming pile of caca of a team.

Just a guess, but probably:

Probably as soon as his contract is up, if not sooner.

Sadly...

Wouldn't mind to see him out of the AL Central (Go TIgers!) but every player of note migrating to the moneybags in NY and Boston is simply not good for the game.

2009-08-26 07:49:29 AM
I can't really imagine Zack heading to NY or Boston - he has an anxiety disorder that almost forced him out of baseball due to the pressure. If he can't take the heat in Kansas City of all places, how would he survive in Boston or NY?

2009-08-26 08:06:16 AM
Dang, I almost went to that game. Then again, I always almost go to Greinke's home games. He's got a no-hitter in him and I want to watch it come out.

Dear Jerk: Dang, I almost went to that game. Then again, I always almost go to Greinke's home games. He's got a no-hitter in him and I want to watch it come out.

He'll get his no-hitter when he's on a different team, playing against the Royals.

2009-08-26 08:33:23 AM
He'll be playing for LA or New York or Boston or someone by the time his contract is up for renewal. More than likely they'll get a bag of baseballs, some magic beans, and Jason Giambi for him.

2009-08-26 08:59:06 AM
That brought the crowd of 17,353 to full roar - which baffled Greinke.

*Sigh*. You know the K was getting like 25-30k on Grienke nights earlier in the season. Not surprising considering we're like a billion games below .500, but still. KC wants a winner so bad.

2009-08-26 09:10:50 AM
I haven't been watching enough baseball apparently, because I was sure that when I clicked the link it would be about Greinke making horrifyingly racist statements, again.

2009-08-26 09:51:20 AM
That's RACIST!

/Yes, I know that K is for strike, that's good enough for me.

Do you hear that? Those footsteps are the Nats creeping up behind you in the standings. O crap we just fell over and lost 5 games in a row. Dammit, well you're going to hear some footsteps soon. O crap we just resigned Livan Hernandez and have decided to rest our young arms. Nevermind then. There will be no footsteps. Enojy your number 2 overall pick in the draft next year.

Yeah, but you also have Yuniesky Betancourt. And you traded two decent prospects for the pleasure of having Yuniesky Betancourt. So they kinda cancel each other out.

2009-08-26 12:04:37 PM
Awesome, watched the game on a TV while I was supposedly on a date. The girl was not as interesting as the game. Like it's been stated above, he will get traded and the Royals, once a powerhouse (hey they have more recent WS wins than the Cubs) will make another terrible decision and I will have no reason to visit KC once again.

It's kind of fascinating going down the Wiki list of no hitters/perfect games, and seeing the list of guys, as well as some of the circumstances. You forget how ridiculous some of them are. Hideo Nomo has 2? Ramon Martinez got one, but not Pedro? Jim Abbott got one? Tom Browning threw a perfect game against the '88 Dodgers? Jason Varitek has caught 4 no hitters? Good stuff.

Bucs over .500 in 2010, WC contender 2011, division contender 2012-14. Book it.

While 'tek gets a bad rap for not hitting worth a crap anymore, he's one of the top at handling his pitchers.

Didn't Pedro have a game on the Expos where he was perfect through 9 and lost it in extras?

Also, no Mets on that list. Lots of guys who did it before or after they were on the Mets (Seaver, Gooden, Leiter, etc.), and quite a few 1-hitters, but no Mets in almost 50 seasons. Meanwhile the Marlins have had several and they've only been around since '93. Staggering.

Assuming Greinke doesn't destroy his arm prematurely, I really do expect him to get 1+ no hitters during his career. He's a shutdown pitcher who can work the strike zones incredibly well, can keep the count low, and has the stamina to go deep into games.

Of course, half of a no-hitter is your defense, so it's entirely reasonable to suppose that the current Royals team couldn't help Greinke hit that milestone.

Zack, turn down generational money to stay on a pathetic excuse for a franchise. Yeah, I see that happening. Let's take less money and suck to stay in KC of all places.

I started researching that list half expecting a lot more all time great pitchers to be on the None list. As fluky as a no-hitter can be, it really is surprising how many of the greats have gotten at least one, sometimes multiple no hitters.

Half the joke is that the picture is from The Scout, a movie about 58 people saw. Brendan Fraser plays Steve Nebraska, a wonderboy pitcher with mental problems who struggles with having to pitch for the Yankees.

I'd say the silver lining is you play in the AL Central, what a disgusting division right now - if they can keep some players (big if) then next year and the years coming they could be in this thing.

You'd have thought the same thing about the defense behind Mark Buehrle for his perfect game.

Perhaps, but baseball is known for its flukes. That particular perfect game was saved by outstanding defensive play in the 9th inning. Without that play, Buehrle loses both the perfect game and the no-hitter.

Of course, that play was made by a guy inserted in the 9th inning only because of defense (about the only thing Wise is good at), moving the lousy defensive CF to left.

Zack is perfect for KC. Watching him do an interview, you can tell he is not comfortable with it. He refused to do a photo shoot for Sports Illustrated earlier this season. That would be a crime if you were with one of the large market teams. Let's just hope the Royals can surround him with major league talent. I'm starting to have my doubts about Allard...errr Dayton Moore.

2009-08-27 02:08:47 AM
enjoy him while it last, you are a mid market team, if he has any future at all it will be with someone else.

/see Sabathia, Lee, Indians, etc., etc./
