Best Selling Album of all time "The Eagles Greatest Hits".
You may not like em but they hold the throne!
2003-03-05 04:11:16 PM
I always thought Hotel California was about a hotel. In California.
2003-03-05 04:11:46 PM
The Eagles suck. Horrible. Blah. Down with The Eagles.
2003-03-05 04:12:50 PM
Where's Mojo Nixon when you need him???!!!!
2003-03-05 04:13:33 PM

Google for "dark side of the rainbow" to read all about the penomenon. I've never tried it, but it sounds like it would be cool.

Frksamor - You failed to mention how RAP, R&B, or whatever name is in vogue these days for that merchandising style, is considered talent. It's melancholy Country & Western lyrics placed in an urban setting, screamed or spoken by untalented men and women who have the range of three notes.

BTW - You may not appreciate the antics of Christina, but the woman has a voice that the others can only dream about.

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- "The Eagles, Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975," released in 1976, was honored Tuesday as the top-selling album of the century by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Although the award only takes into account the album's 26 million sales in the United States -- in worldwide album sales, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album is at 46 million, versus the "Greatest Hits"' 40 million sales -- the band is nonetheless gratified by the recognition.

Shiattiest band ever. Shiat together, shiat as solo acts.
2003-03-05 04:17:26 PM
yes DrBenway, Bring Me the Head of Don Henley!
2003-03-05 04:18:24 PM
I've tried that "dark side of the rainbow" thing for like the first 15-20 mins of the movie. it's pretty cool, but you gotta really stretch for some of the connections. if you got the album and the movie and a bag of..."oregano"....and time to spare, i'd try it out. it's fun.

Blandest Band in the Land. Please leave, and take your lifeless music with you.
2003-03-05 04:19:53 PM
To be followed by "SHUT THE FARK UP ALREADY!"
2003-03-05 04:20:27 PM
Thanks Rev heard about this a long time ago from a friend. Personally I just thought he was stoned.
2003-03-05 04:20:56 PM
er...Don Henley must die.
2003-03-05 04:21:58 PM
Nice catch, Irockalot. I will say this much for Henley, he's got a sense of humor. Got up on stage and sang it with Mojo at the old Hole In The Wall here in Austin a few years ago...

This website

Says that the Beach Boys have sold more records than any other American band.

Just cuz' shiat like this gets under my skin.

Church of Satan home page.

First line: "Welcome to the official website of the Church of Satan. Founded on April 30, 1966 c.e. by Anton Szandor LaVey"

Interview with Peter H. Gilmore, the High Priest of the Church of Satan (September 2001):

"(5) One of the popular myths about the song "Hotel California" is that it's about Satanism, that it references the old COS at 1969 California St. Is that accurate?

You'd have to ask the people who wrote it for their opinion. It is a pleasant legend."

Also, about the original founder:

LaVey claimed that on the night of April 30, 1966 (the German Satanic festival of Walpurgisnacht), "in a blinding flash" he declared himself the High Priest of Satan, proclaimed that the Age of Satan had begun, and founded the Church of Satan as a religious institution.

Here are the facts about the Church's founding: In 1966 LaVey made a living by presenting weekend lectures on exotic and occult topics, and by conducting "Witches' Workshops". He charged $2 a head and established a local reputation as an eccentric. Professional publicist Edward Webber suggested to LaVey that he "would never make any money by lecturing on
Friday nights for donations ... it would be better to form some sort of church and get a charter from the State of California ... I told Anton at the time that the press was going to flip out over all this and that we would get a lot of notoriety". In the summer of 1966, long after the fictional founding-date invented later, a newspaper article about LaVey's lectures offhandedly referred to him as "priest of the Devil's church". This mixture of Webber's idea and the newspaper's characterization resulted in the creation of the Church of Satan as a business and publicity vehicle.

LaVey and his Church both went bankrupt. In his last years he existed with the help of California state aid. Assessors declared his house, the Church of Satan building on California Street, to be in such poor repair as to be nearly worthless on the real estate market. BTW, the house originally belonged to LaVey's parents; it was given to LaVey and his then-wife Diane. Family members have attested to the fact that by the mid-1970s the LaVeys lived in near-poverty.

Not much to be afraid of, I'm afraid...

2003-03-05 04:26:34 PM
Oh yeah, they're Satanic - remember "Witchy Woman?"

That reminds me of this stupid anti-rock-music program my mom made me watch back in the 1970's. Some fundies played Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" backwards, specifically parts that supposedly sounded like, "There's power in Satan," and "Here's to my sweet Satan."

The Eagles sing of "sweet summer sweat" in "Hotel California." Hmmm...

I hope The Eagles come to L.A. soon!

Dave matthews = Greatest band of all time
2003-03-05 04:28:44 PM
i got "Don Henley Must Die" mixed up with Mojo's song "Bring Me the Head of David Geffen"

2003-03-05 04:29:38 PM
don't really listen to music there, do you PolkManiac?
2003-03-05 04:29:53 PM
Also known as the "How Can You Miss Us If We Won't Go Away" tour.
2003-03-05 04:30:26 PM
I'd buy a ticket in a New York minute. But I've been told by many a farker that my taste in music.
2003-03-05 04:30:32 PM
My favorite Joe Walsh quote is something he said during his guest appearance on the TV show "Who's Line is it Anyway" - "It's . . . really hard to meditate . . . on amphetamines."

Brought the house down and I couldn't breathe for laughing so hard.
2003-03-05 04:31:04 PM
who wrote the song?

[church lady]: Hmmm... could it be -

[image from too old to be available]

Actually, it is credited as "Felder/Frey/Henley" on the album.
2003-03-05 04:31:05 PM
Saw the Eagles Hotel California tour in Miami - it was a great concert, but Jimmy Buffet stole to show (well, it was Miami).

Considering their ticket prices on their "hell freezes over" tour, The Eagles can now kiss my rosey Irish ass!!
2003-03-05 04:31:44 PM
Er....taste in music sucks.
2003-03-05 04:31:58 PM
Dave matthews = Greatest band of all time

Hey, you left off "/starts flame war" from the end of that post.
2003-03-05 04:32:04 PM
PolkManiac, i sincerly hope that's sarcasm, otherwise you have no business talking about music in any fashion.
2003-03-05 04:32:25 PM
Concur, Irockalot. DMB sucks almost as much as the Eagles.
2003-03-05 04:32:32 PM
i heard that if you listen to 'hotel california'backwards it will make you bite the heads off of bats and possibly induce you to violate a groupie with a mud-shark.
on a more serios note,...i went to see the eagles in july of last year.i was kinda expecting it to be a disapointment as i grew up listening to those guys (still do) and that music means a lot to me.i didn't think it would stand up to what i was hoping to see.the tickets seemed to cost way to much and i wasn't thrilled by the fact that don felder wasn't with them anymore (still think that's pretty shiatty) but i figured it may be the only chance to see them so i went.
if you are any degree of fan at all i urge you to go and see them.i was completely blown was all i wanted and more.they played for almost 3 hours, some of the best live music i've ever heard.joe walsh very nearly took the roof off the place.they played the group hits and the solo was all very good.i paid for 2 tickets and felt like i got my money's freaking show i've ever seen.
2003-03-05 04:33:07 PM
I like the Eagles, would go and see them if they come down under. The problem is you are a bunch of fark-wit 12 year olds who wouldn't know good music if it bit you on the arse.

Anyway, I though Garth Brooks was the #1 record seller in the States ???
2003-03-05 04:33:18 PM
The Eagles are, indeed, part of an elite group. Only the Doors and the Grateful Dead suck as horrendously as the friggin' Eagles.

...but at least they never released Tarkus

[image from too old to be available]
2003-03-05 04:33:52 PM
The Eagles they have more talent in a cast off toenail than anyone in the hip hop or rap field. I did fail to call it music because rap and hip hop is not. It's manufactured by computers and electronics and is mainly samples of real music from a bygone era made by people who cannot sing a note of music. Most have horrible raspy gravely voices that totally turn me off. Perfect example of no talent, Lady Marmalade, when each singer has a chance to do a little solo, each hits a terific note of some sort except for the rapper who does the typical "uh huh" "yeah"... Proof! Ok, now I'll take my soap box and head off to another corner...
2003-03-05 04:34:13 PM
03-05-03 04:29:38 PM Irockalot

I knew someone would bite. Actually, yes, quite a bit. I've got a double major in Jazz theory and performance (emphasis in percussion) from UNT. Musically speaking, they're the best band I've heard in a long time, thanks mostly to Carter Beauford, their drummer. Their stuff is some of the most rhythmically and musically advanced music out there, especially from a technical perpespictive.
2003-03-05 04:35:21 PM
TheAnvil, idunno, as much as u may hate the Eagles, they at least have more that ONE SONG that they just change the lyrics to in order to make it sound new. i had a perfectly good anti-DMB rant in the thread to the D4 followup thread, but noooooo, they had to remove it. tools.
2003-03-05 04:35:30 PM
Bah! The Eagles last great album was One Of These Nights, Bernie Leadon left after soon followed by Randy Meisner who left after Hotel California, they got out before the band turned to complete crap....
2003-03-05 04:35:51 PM
Re: Don Felder... he did the guitar arrangement for "Hotel California" but did not write the lyrics. And I was bummed when they kicked him out of the band, too, but I think there's alot of stuff going on there that the public doesn't (and won't) know... the band seems to be MUCH more harmonious without him. So, if you hate the Eagles, blame the dismissal of Felder for bringing them back for all their future Farewell tours.
2003-03-05 04:35:58 PM
"I like the Eagles, would go and see them if they come down under. The problem is you are a bunch of fark-wit 12 year olds who wouldn't know good music if it bit you on the arse.

Funny you should say that, since "my ass" is the phrase invariably uttered after the sentence "Hey, you wanna listen to the Eagles?"

Bleah :P Gimme Gram Parsons 11 times out of 10.
2003-03-05 04:36:32 PM
Hey Bump,

Don Felder got booted out because Don Henley and Glenn Frey are a couple of greedy asshats. Henley, Felder, and Frey were in a business partnership (separate from the Eagles) known as Eagles Ltd. which profited from merchandise sales etc. Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt were just hired employees and did not share in the profits of Eagles Ltd. Felder was feeling screwed out of royalties and wanted a larger cut (one glaring example is the song Hotel California, which he wrote entirely), and Frey and Henley figured out that instead of splitting the profits by three, they could eliminate Felder and share the profits 50/50. What happened next was Felder suing Felder and Frey. Jackson Browne and J.D. Souther also sued Felder and Frey for being shafted out of royalties they deserved.

As a side note... they really aren't the Eagles without Don Felder, even though he wasn't an original member. I saw them in July 2002 with some other guy playing guitar... although I gotta say Joe Walsh is one bad mofo after he put on the greatest live guitar showcase I've ever personally seen.
2003-03-05 04:39:01 PM

I just love starting arguments, and it seems like making that statement usually works quite well.

"The Eagles they have more talent in a cast off toenail than anyone in the hip hop or rap field."

Thanks, Dad.

(What year is this, 1982??!?!)

OK, I know I'm in a minority here, and I know I'm going to catch a rash of sheight for this one (expecting the backlash), but I've always loved the farkin' Eagles. I have ever since I was 10 and raided my fathers Eagles, Bread, CSN, and Simon & Garfunkle albums. I'll even throw in a little Mason Williams for good measure. I still get chills when I hear the beginning of "Take It Easy".
There's a lot to be said about the ticket prices, Don Felder's treatment and ultimate dismissal, and Don Henley's unbelievable self-righteousness, but say what you want, the music stands on it's own two feet.
There's a reason that their Greatest Hits sold 27 million, Hotel California - 16 million, and Greatest Hits #2 - 10 million. It aint''cause they suck.
2003-03-05 04:47:02 PM
The_Pole_Of_Justice....Holy crap!!! Tarkus???

I'm speechless. I've got that somewhere in a stack of LP's and it hasn't seen the light of day in probably 20 years.

I wasn't that bad, was it? I honestly can't even remember.
2003-03-05 04:47:20 PM

Come clean with us, now, okay? You're really the Most Right Reverend Charles M. Young, aren't you?
2003-03-05 04:47:37 PM
I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin' "Don't blame me"
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, Old Billy was right
Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight
You don't want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing

Get over it
Get over it
If you don't want to play, then you might as well split
Get over it, Get over it

It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak
You're makin' the most of your losin' streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak

You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass

Get over it
Get over it
All this biatchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

Get over it
Get over it
It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit
Get over it, get over it

C'mon, how can you NOT love that song??!!?!?
2003-03-05 04:48:28 PM
One of the all-time great sins against popular music seems to be an ex-Eagle. Henley and Frey's respective solo output is this incomprehensible morass of suck, so when you put them together, the ensuing horror is too great to imagine.

Die Eagles Die.
