Last time, hell froze over. I won't trust their Lyin Eyes this time. I thought they were Already Gone?

I quit liking the Eagles when I found out "Hotel California" was about the founding of the First Church of Satan. The Pope of this Satanic church-Anton LeVay is even inside the album cover up in one of the windows of the hotel. Listen to the lyrics of the song if you doubt my advice. 1965 was the year that "church" was founded-"..we haven't had that spirit here since 1965." The whole damn song is riddled with satanic references. I'm a huge Heavy Metal fan and this song is way too satanic for me.
2003-03-05 12:24:15 PM
Hey Tadpole, did you make sure and put a bobber on that line?

I don't understand why Don Felder got booted after all this time.... And as far as the tour name, at least they're being honest about their 'fairwell' tour, unlike Kiss et al who do their "final" tour about 5-6 times. At least The Eagles number theirs. I still like them - but I don't know about paying all that cash for a friggin ticket. I'm too old to see a concert now anyway...

From an interview with Mr. Walsh:

IMWT: Is it true that, on the cover of Hotel California, late Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey is seen standing in one of the hotel windows?

JW: Absolutely not. Any reference to Satan or anything like that is completely in the eyes of whoever is thinking that. That's a reflection of how sick they are. The guy in the window is one of the Elektra/Asylum publicity guys. The lighting just happened to be bad and he was really shy, so he was just peeking around the corner.

I hear they'll be selling tin-foil hats at the concession stand...

I guess hell thawed out huh.

Just read the lyrics. Do you expect them to openly admit either their mistake or their satanic tendencies?
2003-03-05 03:21:01 PM
Tadpole, that's a famous urban legend and the band has fun with it. As they should -- as urban legends go, it's one of the better ones. Also, the year mentioned in the song was "1969". The song is really a warning, not a clarion call to Satanic arms. As it turns out, Don Henley is actually a down-home, family-raisin', God-fearin' kinda guy.
2003-03-05 03:22:18 PM
Their mistake?

How many albums have they sold? How filthy rich are they? That was a mistake? I wish I could make a few mistakes like that.

I always heard the song was about drug use ("Some dance to remember, some dance to forget") and how hard it is to give it up ("You can check out any time you like but you can never leave")

Is "Pretty Maids all in a row" about satan too? Wasted time? Last resort? They're all on the same satanic album, so they probably have backward masked lyrics and all that crap, too.

"We were all middle-class kids from the Midwest," Henley said of the Eagles. "'Hotel California' was our interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles. It was meant to be a metaphor for the United States, for the excesses this country has always been known for. It wasn't meant to be just about California or Beverly Hills. It was more or less taken that way, but we had broader intentions than that. When you love something, you have to point out the things that are going wrong."

(of course he doesn't want to admit it either, right?)

BTW, here are other rumors (false) about 'the' Hotel California.

I hate the freakin' Eagles, man!
2003-03-05 03:53:24 PM
Hey, Tadpole, were you ever a minister at a church in Boise, Idaho? If so, your yammering sounds familiar.
2003-03-05 03:54:12 PM
I saw Joe Walsh in concert a couple years ago...he rocked! I don't really like the Eagles as a group, though. Gimme Joe Walsh with the James Gang or Barnstorm! Yeah!
2003-03-05 03:54:14 PM
Yea. I can honestly say that, "I hate the farkin' Eagles man..."
2003-03-05 03:54:28 PM
I must remember to put this on my things not to do list.
2003-03-05 03:55:19 PM
Well that song, "Life in the Bass Lands" isn't really about fishing.
2003-03-05 03:55:34 PM
IF this is their final NFL season, I am going to be pissed off. I mean, not having the Eagles play in Philadelphia, wow. They just built a new stadium and...oh
2003-03-05 03:57:16 PM
Plus Bump, there might be a lot of hippie, pot-smokers there...

2003-03-05 03:57:34 PM
Tadpole, you are kidding, right?
Did you take the brown acid?
Is your Pot PUre or are you smoking that Ghetto Chronic?
2003-03-05 03:57:34 PM
The *BLING" Must be Runnin' Low.
2003-03-05 03:58:25 PM
Tadpole - Man, you gotta get your stuff straight before you open your mouth, at least quote the lyrics correctly, it's 1969, not 1965, you dork...
2003-03-05 03:58:35 PM
hey - i like the eagles and all, but am less prone to see them in concert. not to mention don felder is not touring with them? such an underrated guitarist.
2003-03-05 03:59:42 PM
What? Is this a joke?
I think perhaps the Eagles smoked a smidgen too much dope in the 70's...
2003-03-05 04:00:32 PM
Eagles = yuck.
2003-03-05 04:01:26 PM
Don Henley Must Die!!

Don't let him get back together with Glen Fry!!
2003-03-05 04:01:28 PM
Please Please Please (Am I coming off too Morrissey-ish?)

Let Glen Frey do some of his solo stuff.

The H is O

Somebody's gonna hurt someone,
before this thread is through.
Somebody's gonna come undone,
There's nothin' Drew can do.
Everybody wants to flame somebody,
if it takes all night.
Everybody wants to take a little stance,
Make it come out right.
There's gonna be a heartache tonight,
a heartache tonight, I know.
There's gonna be a heartache tonight, I know.
Lord, I know.
2003-03-05 04:01:53 PM
You know what is sad?
That asshats like Brittany Spears, InStink, Backwash Boys and Christina Gagulerra are collecting grammys and or accolades and mega cash while our youth has no clue about th4e roots of good Rock and Roll... Where it was actually played by MUSICIANS who knew how to play INSTRUMENTS and write their own LYRICS.
Sad sad sad
2003-03-05 04:02:09 PM
Sven_Burger, I laughed my ass off at that line when I first saw the movie.
2003-03-05 04:03:33 PM
No Don Felder = no interest.

He basically wrote Hotel California (the song) but he is treated like a second-class citizen by Frey and Henley, or so I hear. Although they are all rich beyond belief and will soon be richer after the Fall down a well tour...
2003-03-05 04:03:38 PM
The "Hotel California" album is not about Satanism.  That is an urban legend only.

However, it's completely true that "Hotel California" was written and recorded to perfectly sync up with "The Wizard of Oz."
2003-03-05 04:03:51 PM
They must be serious about a big tour though, I heard Don Henley is throwing the crew a nipple peircing party next week.

03-05-03 12:13:31 PM Tadpole
1965 was the year that "church" was founded-"..we haven't had that spirit here since 1965."

Far be it from me to stand up for The Eagles (I'm not a fan), but wasn't the year in the song 1969 and not 1965?
2003-03-05 04:05:44 PM
peircing= piercing my spell checker is on her lunch break
2003-03-05 04:05:58 PM
Tadpole, I assume that you think the band KISS named themselves for "Kings In Satan's Service" as well, huh?
2003-03-05 04:06:05 PM
Man, I friggin' HATE the Eagles. They were among the first groups to have a "one time only reunion tour" which seemed to justify the high price of the tickets. Unfortunately, it was all a lie and subsequently caused ticket prices to rise overall because the music industry saw we were stupid enough to pay $80 to see a bunch of prune-faced, washed-up rock has beens. Screw 'em.
2003-03-05 04:06:17 PM
Farewell tour? Good, I hate the Eagles. shiattiest football team out there. Does this mean that an expansion team will be coming into the fold season after next?

/Go Pats
2003-03-05 04:06:28 PM
My whole life I thought I was the freak for hating The Eagles until I saw The Big Lebowski and now I'm finally OK with my hatred for their shiatty music.

I don't hate Joe Walsh, tho. In fact, once I heard him playing his guitar while I was hiking in the canyons near his house in LA. The echo was very cool. :)
2003-03-05 04:06:30 PM
I hear Tom Jones is gonna be the opening act.
2003-03-05 04:06:50 PM
this is the most blatant case of false-advertising since my lawsuit against the makers of The Neverending Story
2003-03-05 04:07:05 PM
I thought "Hotel California" was about an insane asylum.
2003-03-05 04:07:12 PM
It's all true, Hotel California is about da debil. Boycott The Eagles.

Now I'm off to listen to some wholesome Slayer CDs.
2003-03-05 04:07:39 PM
Kicking the tour off here in Richmond? Between that , Cher last weekm and the Springsteen show tomorrow night, it's like 1982 'round here! We are so big time!
2003-03-05 04:07:41 PM
03-05-03 04:03:38 PM BillDarryl

Thats funny, but really, isn't it dark side of the moon?
2003-03-05 04:08:02 PM
Korzeniowski, your point would be what?
2003-03-05 04:08:50 PM
Ok, so bite me-1969. Just read all the lyrics. Who wrote the song?
2003-03-05 04:08:59 PM
The "Farewell I" is a joke from the's really to make fun of bands like KISS who have had like five or six farewell tours, and undoubtedly acts like Cher, who is just completing her "farewell" tour.

If you get a chance to see these guys, however, go. I've seen them live a couple of times in recent years (once on Dec 31, 1999 at their Millennium show and once at the RAC show). Unlike a lot of other groups, they sound just as amazing live as they do in the studio. Plus, you just can't argue with the hits they've had. Their first Greatest Hits album is sometimes the biggest selling album of all time (it trades off with Thriller occasionally), and that was BEFORE Hotel California came out.
2003-03-05 04:09:04 PM
Before they got back together last time, someone asked Joe Walsh if it was true they were offered $1 million to play one show.

He said "Nah, we would never get back together for money, and besides, it wasn't enough."
2003-03-05 04:09:09 PM
Are the Eagles the top-selling American Band of all time? My Dad always says that they are, and I can't think of another American band that has clearly sold more albums than them.
2003-03-05 04:09:28 PM
I heard that all of the Eagles who are standing in front of the flames on the cover were the ones killed in the airplane crash....

FLAChickie I'll bet they wuz smokin zum of that there wacky backy too.... damn hippy treehuggin' tax-n-spend pot smokin draft doggin liberals...

No. No I'm not a pothead. But I am willing to learn. Will they send me someplace special?
