Ok, don't jump down my throat for saying this.

I'm still partial to:

chmod +x /bin/laden

Wonder how many people in NYC would get it without having to have it explained?

And yes, I know we don't know for sure he did it.

2001-09-14 12:58:28 PM

chmod +x /bin/laden

means

change permission so that bin laden will be executable

2001-09-14 01:10:14 PM
Hollywood: In unix chmod changes permissions, +x means add execute persmissions, and /bin is the directory that holds most of the important programs, like your shell.

Although technically to actaully execute him it would be:

"chmod +x /bin/laden; /bin/laden"

Hagbard23:

chmod: a command to change permissions on a file. +x means "add execute privilages for everyone"

rm: a command to delete files and/or directories. -rf means "recurse/force", and is the equivalent of the dos command "deltree".

/bin/: A directory that has many of the programs the computer can run. Sort of like the C:\dos directory in dos. /bin/laden would be a program named "laden".

So, for example, 'rm -rf /bin/laden' would be "delete /bin/laden and all of its subdirectories recursively".

No linux stuff? What else is there in the world? Ah, what about shakespear? How about;

"Lay on, MacDuff, and curs'd be him who first cries, "Hold, enough!".
-- Shakespeare

now that is funny sir!! thanx for the translation

Shakespeare:
"Cry Havoc! And let slip the dogs of war."

Melville:
"And he piled upon the whale's white hump, the sum of all the rage and hate felt by his whole race. If his chest had been a cannon, he would have shot his heart upon it."

GaidinBDJ - Great choice on the Melville!

Along the same dark line;

Elliot:
Come in under the shadow of this red rock,
And I will show you something different
from either Your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handfull of dust.

And under a more reserved line of thought:

"It is not good for a man to be without knowledge,
and he who makes haste with his feet misses his way."
-- Proverbs 19:2

2001-09-14 01:32:27 PM
ya know? The way the Elliot quote is placed it might seem odd. I was thinking of it more as a motto, and not something addressed to the American people. I hope no one thought that. It wasn't until after I had posted it that I thought it was perhaps odd looking in the context of the previous quotes.

2001-09-14 01:37:39 PM
Aye, fight and you may die, run and you'll live. At least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom?!

Yea, Hotdog, about as subtle as smacking yourself in the head with a sledgehammer. And just about as intelligent.

2001-09-14 01:46:12 PM
Well, not as eloquent as your Shakespeare quote, but the end result is the same. works for me.

Drowning Pool is a new rock band that has a hit single called "Bodies"

The chorus is:

LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR
LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR
LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR
LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Pretty decent song.

WWWD - What would Walken do?...Kick ass, that's what.

There's my 10 words or less

2001-09-14 02:47:50 PM
At first I was afraid
I was petrified
I kept thinking I could never live without you
By my side
But then I spent so many nights
Just thinking how you've done me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to get along

And so you're back
From outer space
I just walked in to find you
Here without that look upon your face

I should have changed my f*ckin' lock
I would have made you leave your key
If I had had know for just one second
You'd be back to bother me

Well now go,
Walk out the door
Just turn around
Now, you're not welcome anymore

Weren't you the one
Who tried to break me with desire?
Did you think I'd crumple?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh not I,
I will survive
Yeah
As Long as I know how to love,
I know I'll be alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
I will survive,
I will survive
Yeah, yeah

It took all the strength I had
Just not to fall apart
I'm trying hard to mend the pieces
Of my broken heart
And I spent oh so many nights
Just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry,
But now I hold my head up high

And you see me
With somebody new
I'm not that stupid little person
Still in love with you
And so you thought you'd just drop by
And you expect me to be free
But now I'm saving all my lovin'
For someone whose lovin' me

Well now go,
Walk out the door
Just turn around
Now, you're not welcome anymore

Weren't you the one
Who tried to break me with desire?
Did you think I'd crumple?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh not I,
I will survive
Yeah
As long as I know how to love,
I know I'll be alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
I will survive,
I will survive
Yeah, yeah
