You know, in a few days I'll be taking my first plane by myself. And it will be a three leg intercontinental journey, with a propeller plane segment.

So what I'm saying is, can we ease up on the plane crash stories? And hopefully the plane crashes themselves?

Yeah because the Polish weren't even smart enough to figure out how a sabre charge worked. They tried it a few times in the Ukraine and half their soldiers held the sabre backwards and ended up with grotesque injuries. Also during WW2 they tried stopping Wehrmacht tanks by lying down in front of them. In Poland the principle weapon of choice is the potato.

Yes I laughed. I deserve my seat on the plane to hell, which will also probably just for irony sake surrender to gravity in France.

I don't understand why someone doesn't invent a plane that gives the passengers a shot at surviving. For example, you could have passengers that sit in booths where if there's any trouble, they could be ejected like pilots in an military jet.

I know it would be expensive, but surely there would be some multi-billionaires that would pay for it. As well, there would be some people (such as myself) that would pay a high premium knowing they had a chance to survive.

A small jet could easily have that built in. I just hate flying mainly due to the fact that it is binary, you either live or you die, there's no chance to survive a plane crash.

You couldn't afford it.
Nor would you sit in the seat 100% of the time, strapped in a 5 point harness.
Nor would you endure the two hours it took to strap 150 people into those seats.
Nor would you accept the inevitable accident, when someone gets ejected accidentally. Ejection seats have a lot of explosives/rocket motors. 200 seats per plane x 10,000(wag) planes = there WILL be an accident.

I just hate flying mainly due to the fact that it is binary, you either live or you die, there's no chance to survive a plane crash.

More people die in car crashes. While your odds of surviving a car crash are greater, you chances of death are much higher. I don't see anyone doing very much to try to reduce traffic fatalities either.

France: Bordered by the UK and Germany. Both historical "Great Powers". I can understand why the French would try to avoid conflict...

The United States: Bordered by Canada and Mexico. Neither of which ever was a threat to American sovereignty. Philosophies such as American exceptionalism and "manifest destiny" still influence US policy today.
