Manatees are proof that God got drunk one night and crapped his pants.

Seriously, a manatee is a giant harmless potato with flippers and no natural predators but it's becoming extinct because of an uncanny ability to find every single propeller in the ocean.

"Hey, what's that? let me go check it ou- THWACK! Crap I'm dead!"

...except most of these don't seem to be dying from prop injuries. I'm betting on fertilizer or other toxic runoff myself, since they live in shallow waters and eat plants that grow there. Or alternatively, they're like other inshore sea mammals and ingesting a lot of plastic.

Given what we've done to the whale population(s), I'm not sure this is newsworthy.

Just like people, some animal's lives are worth more than others. Boats & Sea-Doos are worth even more. Darwin says the matinees lose. They're butt ugly anyway.

Manatees are completely worthless except as a curiosity and as a way for the fish and wildlife administration to make some money. They destroy the grasses that provide habitat and food supply for game fish, and the manatee lovers shove manatee protection legislation down our throats that makes no sense whatsoever. Manatees tend to travel through very shallow water (
Has anyone thought to consider that manatee deaths are up this year because there are more of them than in previous years? Or that maybe there is a manatee swine flu?

2009-08-23 02:05:51 AM
The solution is pretty simple--piano wire across the canals at about six, seven feet up and hundred-foot intervals. Vary the height and vary the distance from the water to make it challenging.

Trying to cover up Manatee Plague. It's like ebola, black plague, and swin flu rolled up in one, and it's about to come out with a new strain where it loses the "atee" part.

Exactly!

Protect animals that are cute or interact well with humans... not so much.

For me, its just kind of an annoyance. For the guy who has to spend 4 hours a day traveling 5 miles an hour through the Intracoastal Waterway (out and back) to get his boat out to the ocean to catch fish (and make a living) its kind of a serious hardship.

If your time is really that valuable, did you ever think of finding port facilities that don't involve a 4 hour commute to the ocean?

It takes me too long to get to work because of the other people on the freeway. Y'know, if I could just run a propeller over their backs, they might swim off to some marsh and die of blood loss and/or massive infection, suffering horribly. That's cool with me, because I'm me, and I care about me, and if all the people I cause to suffer horribly and die aren't on the freeway, well, then I can get to work more quickly, which means I can sleep later.

And frankly, shouldn't this guy move his boat somewhere less than ten miles from the nearest outlet to the open water?

solved. make them so they clamp on around the motor as an after market add on. also make it streamlined so it doesn't snag shiat. but still just cover the goddamn blades up.

next problem please. i'll be awaiting my royalties.
