I'd love to see a table of the IQs of each country *leaders*. Then the US would be at the bottom.

2003-03-04 08:26:41 PM
I think 100 is a bit high for most people in the US.

Before you flame me. I am a US citizen not high and mighty Canadian or European.

I'm pretty sure France would have that one sewed up as well.

President Bush actually got an MBA from Harvard.
George Bush scored 1206 on his SATs. Based on the
pre-1974 norming
of the SAT, that converts to about a 129 IQ on the Otis scale.

That isn't Mensa material, but it isn't far off, and Chirac is a well known knucklehead, sort of a French version of Gerald Ford. I suppose there may be some world leaders dumber than Chirac, but not many.

If you let the USA average in some of the lower-level guys in government, well, I doubt if there is anyone in government anywhere who is smarter than Admiral Poindexter - graduated top of his class at Annapolis and got a PhD in physics from California Institute of Technology after getting his masters from Cal Tech.

When he wasn't mastering theoretical physics, he was becoming the commander of a full destroyer squadron before his 40th birthday.

There is nothing at all wrong with his brain.

His conscience?

Well, there's another whole kettle of crawdads.

I've often said that Bush isn't as dumb as people make him out to be, but even I have a hard time believing he has an IQ of 129.

2003-03-04 09:36:35 PM
wow. that was pretty thin on content.

2003-03-04 10:15:22 PM
I scored higher than our president on the SAT's. Cool...

/beginning plans for coup

Point well taken. Thanks.
I am confusing "IQ" with "smarts"?

2003-03-04 10:39:49 PM
Actually, I just realized that the US isn't even listed!

2003-03-04 10:41:52 PM
The U.S. has a mean of 100.

Ricardomontalban and Zenmaster -

You may NOT have beat the prez on his SATs. Depends not only on WHAT you got, but also WHEN you got it. He scored 566 verbal, 640 math, but a 566 verbal when he took it is equal to a 640 verbal today, so by today's norming, he scored 1280 - twin 640's.

Therefore, if you took them recently, you need 1290 to beat him. If you took them before 1995, you need 1207.

Mensa asks for an IQ of 132 and asked for a V+Q score of 1250 on the OLD (Dubya-era) testing scale, compared to the President's 1206. So he just ain't that dumb!! In fact, as much as it pains me to admit it, his SAT scores probably understate his intelligence, since he's not the kind of guy who spent his school years with his nose in a book, as we all know, and the old SATs incorporated a strong element of achievement (vocabulary, e.g.) as well as aptitude. Somehow I just don't see the Prez as a "brush up your word power" kind of guy, so chances are he is even smarter than his scores indicate.

It is a favorite ploy of the Dems to jump on guys like Dubya for a lack of bookishness. Granted he is not a polished public speaker, and not very articulate, but the boy ain't no dummy!

Al Gore scored 625 verbal, 730 math. His 1355 is well higher than the 1250 required by Mensa for admission based on SAT's taken in that era.

According to this table:

http://members.shaw.ca/delajara/oldSATIQ.html

Gore's 1355 is equivalent to an IQ somewhere 'twixt 139-and 143.

A 625 verbal in those days is equivalent to either a 680 or a 690 today (it is halfway in between), so Gore scores either 1410 or 1420 by today's scoring norms.

I have not been able to find President Clinton's SATs.

Remember, everyone, Revenant_Locke is the SMARTEST guy we'll ever meet... or so he claims

(reference to 'American Bastards' flamewar)

2003-03-05 12:31:37 AM
Yay, I beat Gore on the SAT. I win! Lockbox!

/shameless bragging with no point whatsoever.

2003-03-05 01:23:40 AM
We needed IQ scores to know that France is full of morons?

To rank France's intelligence, all you need to know are 2 words: Jerry Lewis

'nuf said.

2003-03-05 01:25:43 AM
Al Gore scored 625 verbal, 730 math.

Unless they did things differently back then, the SAT's are scored in increments of 10. A score of 1350 is okay and a score of 1360 is okay, but not 1355.

2003-03-05 01:29:01 AM
I got such a high score on the SATs that the scoring machine blew up. Of course thet tried to tell me it was because I used a #3 pencil.

2003-03-05 01:50:54 AM
I don't care how the scores get adjusted depending on when you took them, I got a 1590, so President Bobo can just bow down before me.

2003-03-05 02:22:37 AM
The "increments of 10" is a recent modification. The final digit was meaningful when Gore took the test. Same with Dubya, who scored 566 verbal.

2003-03-05 05:41:16 AM
Wonder what would have happenned if someone gave Dubya a recount.

2003-03-05 05:41:26 AM
Tomasso

He may have an MBA from Harvard, but I've seen a couple people get through and degrees that they didn't deserve because of who they were, who their parents were and how much was donated.

but I also know someone who scored a 1600 on his SATs was 2nd in his class at Penn while carrying a double major and the kid comes off dumb as a box of rocks because he's book smart but not common sense smart.

2003-03-05 05:41:38 AM
Anyone else surprised to see Poland at #3? There goes that stereotype...

2003-03-05 05:42:05 AM
I failed my SATs.

2003-03-05 05:43:12 AM
Where do I pick up my prize?

2003-03-05 05:43:43 AM
What a crock. Everyone knows that IQ tests are pretty much useless indicators of intelligence, because they're geared for the target audience. All that chart could reveal to you is levels of cultural similarity between different nations. Try it again with an IQ test for 25 year old Americans, or 16 year old french kids. Hell, I bet you couldn't even get a standardised 100 across the US, because of the diverging socioeconomic and demographic groups.

2003-03-05 05:44:35 AM
I've got a SAT of 1795, a math of 1000, verbal of 950, and a +3 modifier against fire attacks.

2003-03-05 05:47:24 AM
you are what you eat, they eat snails, snails are slow, thus the French are slow...it makes sense.

2003-03-05 05:48:31 AM
There is no SAT.

Instead, try to realize there is only the ACT.

/hangs head in shame on a score of 26, damn math section

2003-03-05 05:49:00 AM
Note that the adjusted (for cultural differences in testing) IQ of France is above the U.S.'s 100.

America surrenders.

2003-03-05 05:49:48 AM
Sweden not first. Something wrong!
Bad!

2003-03-05 05:52:01 AM
Seriously, Bush does have an IQ of 129.

But its not a real number. That 129 is an imaginary number that may be expressed in the complex domain with coordinates. Mathematically expressed in two dimensions on a graph, one of the coordinates of his IQ would be defined as going back in time 30 years.

2003-03-05 05:52:02 AM
to all the 'Bush isn't that stupid' camp - ROTFL!!!!!!! the guy can barely string a sentence together, everything he has *achieved* (degree, elections etc.) has been bought for him.

Hes managed to run profitable companys into the ground and now he has done the EXACT same with your country, now hes trying to do the exact same with the global economy - Listen theres patriotism and then theres just blind stupidity, how can you watch your TVs night after night, listen to this unintelligible, struggling idiot and then turn around and say 'That isn't Mensa material, but it isn't far off'.

In a recent survey in the UK as many people 45% listed GWB as the biggest danger to world peace (45% also listed Saddam Hussein)

2003-03-05 05:54:57 AM
IQ tests are stupid. I mean really whats the point? They tell you nothing of intelligence. I'm a white male American. So I'm supposed to be the one they target right? So how come I can graduate 5th in my high school class, get a 34 on the ACT, coast through the first three years of a computer engineering degree with a 3.7 GPA without opening my books, yet I score a 120-130 on every IQ test I've ever taken? Sure that's above average, but by every other measurement that has been taken of me, I'm way above average?

2003-03-05 05:55:33 AM
funny how the highest average IQ in europe is a country in which marijuana is legal

2003-03-05 05:57:25 AM
WOOT HOLLAND KICKS ALL YALLS ASSES!

i love this country

2003-03-05 05:58:17 AM
to all the 'Bush isn't that stupid' camp - ROTFL!!!!!!! the guy can barely string a sentence together,

Hey, have you met my friend, the kettle?

2003-03-05 05:59:16 AM
Cormee

In a recent survey in the UK as many people 45% listed GWB as the biggest danger to world peace (45% also listed Saddam Hussein)

Brit journalist Tony Parsons recently wrote:

To our shame, George Bush gets a worse press than Saddam Hussein. Once we were told that Saddam gassed the Kurds, tortured his own people and set up rape-camps in Kuwait. Now we are told he likes Quality Street. Save me the orange centre, oh mighty one!

I'm not taking a stand on this, just citing what a prominent Brit said on that matter.

2003-03-05 06:00:16 AM
Bush was denied his first choice of postgraduate degree admission into Texas U for a law degree ever AFTER finishing his history degree at Yale - he got such poor results they didn't want him.

He didn't even get into Yale scorewise more than likely as he entered in the 'preferential' category for the children of previous graduates - ie his Dad got him in. Since history degrees have rather low entry scores that has to say something.

Regardless of the above - he may not be a total dumbarse but he has little clue about the real world.

2003-03-05 06:00:26 AM
IQ tests (theoretically) measure your ability to correlate and process, and sometimes to create something new with what you've got.

Most things required of people in the real world - memorizing facts, dealing with teachers or bosses, etc - don't fall into the category of raw intelligence. That's why there are plenty of screaming geniuses who do nothing with their lives.. but they -are- still smart.

2003-03-05 06:00:51 AM
Cormee He may not be articulate or a good executive and he's probably war-hungry, but to say he is stupid because of that isn't fair. Look at the Unabomber. He was a freaking ubergenius, but that doesn't mean he is a good puplic speaker and I sure wouldn't want him deciding public policy.

2003-03-05 06:00:57 AM
Niccofeine - wonderful argument you put forward there, also you might have noticed I am not actually a threat to world peace.

2003-03-05 06:04:14 AM
Damn you Amsterdam! /Maru@Hamburg,Germany

Yep, and thanks.

Cormee- l00k at m3 I'm using t3h int4rn37. Spare me your pile of dog crap. While you are at it, if you are going to troll, at least be good at it.

2003-03-05 06:05:10 AM
Not long before an IQ test link appears, I bet.

Seems like there's one every quarter.

2003-03-05 06:07:44 AM
Drivinwest - fair enough but to quote bush himself:
"The United States has no intention of determining the precise form of Iraq's new government. That choice belongs to the Iraqi people,"

has he actually *asked* the people of Iraq what they want - if he had he would find they are more than happy with the existing govt. Do you think they want to suffer poverty, hunger and war just so GWB can (a) divert attention from the fact that he didnt manage to get Osama Bin Laden or destroy Al Quaieda (b) wants control of the worlds 2nd largest oil reserves and (c) wants to finish a war his father failed to finish a decade ago (remember he abandoned the rebel forces in Iraq after promising them help ousting Saddam?)

2003-03-05 06:09:33 AM

2003-03-05 06:09:58 AM
Good try at trolling Cormee, but you are far from good.

03-05-03 06:00:51 AM Jdwayne00
Cormee He may not be articulate or a good executive and he's probably war-hungry

so do you think someone of these characteristics should have access to the worlds largest arsenal of nuclear weapons?

2003-03-05 06:12:25 AM
Do you think they want to suffer poverty, hunger and war just so GWB... ad nauseum

Silly. Of course they don't. They're living it up, and why stop?
