Plus, Florida teams have as many pennants in that period of time as Chicago teams have had since the beginning of WWII.

Yeah, and by 2015, they'll move to the AL and lose to the Cubs in the World Series.

Are you trying to suggest that the only thing holding the Cubs from winning the World Series is the Marlins being in the NL? Best thing I've heard today.

WTF is this? Florida has two teams that have earned 2 NL Pennants, 1 AL Pennant, and 2 World Series titles. Lots of states would happily trade places.

BTW I'm the subby and I live in Miami, FL. I'm a huge Marlins fan and I watch almost every game. The headline was just a joke on how no one cares down here. So please don't take it to serious.

Regardless of how many people actually show up, I am pretty sure the Marlins have a decent amount of season tickets sold for each game.

Oh yeah subby..... 2 time world champions

I've been a Marlins fan since '87.

/Not really.
//But I once had a college professor who claimed that he had been a Marlins fan for over 10 years.
///He said that in '97, after they won the World Series.
////Bonus: Everyone in the class looked at each other, and the prof didn't correct himself.

But then I also don't like baseball... hmmm....

We're all Marlins fans down here. It's just that, you know that storm you NY'ers got in Central Park last night? We have that every day during the summer down here. I'm not sitting at a ballgame through that.

if the marlins cared or were at all smart, they would petition to be moved into the AL East. Millions of New Yorkers and Bostonians flock to South FLA all year etc. THEN they would sell more than 22 tickets per game.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe if ownership wasn't so hell bent on cleaning house after each championship in order to lower payroll, the Marlins might have stronger fan support. Right now the Marlins have the lowest payroll at 36 mil. And I can't remember the article, but it basically said the Marlins make more money by losing because they get a cut of the baseball luxury tax money.

Except that the marlins aren't losers. They're winners. Not especially distinguished winners, but winners none the less.

The reason I am a Yankee fan is because I grew up in S. Florida and, at the time, the Marlins did not exist, so it was spring training ball or nothing.

The closest spring training park to me at the time was the Lockart stadium complex outside of Ft. Lauderdale - and the Yankees played there then. Tickets were like 2-3 bucks. So that was my home town team, and I've stuck with them since....

and golly, it took stamina to survive the 80's/early-90's. but I did. Just like i am surviving one hell of a cold spell for my other favorite team (the Dolphins obviously).

/One league is Grapefruit
/The other is Cactus
/They play those games

as I said, I'm a yankee fan - but what is undoubtedly impressive is the ratio of WS wins to avg payroll. That's some bad-ass GM'ing...

Contrabulous Flabtraption: Tens of fans thrilled...

The dolphins have the same problem. Many chalk it down to the "relaxed florida lifestyle" ... I disagree, and have my own set of possible reasons. But it's true - rabid fans and south florida do not belong in the same sentence.

so, of course, one has to wonder why anyone thought firing up an NHL franchise down there was a good idea.

It was probably a roided out Marlin's pitcher, too. Hell, everyone was roided out. Who gives a shiat?

The point is, our juiced up players were better than everyone else's juiced up players twice in that span, same as yours.

It's what we do best. Though the most insufferable part is how proud of it we are.

They did do it again tonight. Now at 15 games. They had plenty of chances to crack that game open. God I hate Freddy Gonzalez sometimes!
