Let's hope they don't develop a taste for human insides.

The best cookout I ever went to was at some dude's house on the Chesapeake Bay. He was steaming oysters over this huge pit. He had his own oyster beds hanging off the dock in his back yard, so whenever he needed more he would just haul a bed out of the water and pick some off. I have no idea how many oysters I ate. They were so good I felt like I could stay there forever, and eat nothing else but those oysters for the rest of my days. I've never had seafood anywhere near that fresh again.

Oysters and Escargot (my car go 150 swiftly) are awesome.

Anyone know oysters well? I went to a restaurant last week and they had Long Island Oysters as an appetizer for $10. Much to my chagrin when she brought them out there were only 3 oysters. Everytime I've gotten oysters as an appetizer is was a half dozen. Me being the ass I am, confronted the waitress and said that price was outrageous for $10. Was I right to complain or are "Lond Island" oysters actually that expensive?

Meh, I tried escargot, wasn't impressed. The thing is, literally anything cooked in that delicious buttery sauce will taste good, the fact that snails are edible in that proves my point. To test my theory try to cook snails differently and see how they come out.

I used to live in korea and they always had dishes with snails in them. they were a lot more chewy than escargot but I found them just as good as anything I usually eat.

So basically you've only had escargot on cruises? Served in a metal plate with 12 holes and about 4 sticks of butter. I will concede that they basically take the taste of what they're in, but I've had them many different ways and they're always good. It's like chicken, whatever you put on it, it will take that flavor.

You weren't right to complain (you should have asked how many came with it if it was that important to you) but you are correct in that $10 is too much for 3 NY oysters.

The absolute most I've paid for a single oyster is $2.50 which is a steal compared to what you got.

Because they were so small, it took 1,600 to 2,000 shucked Olympias to make a gallon. So it didn't take long for the oyster beds in San Francisco Bay to be depleted.

Although some harvesting continued in some areas of California until the 1930s, wild oysters in the Bay Area were pretty much wiped out by 1911.

"This underlines the consequences of introduced species [meaning the Whelk]," Grosholz said. "We've lost ecosystems that we may not be able to recover."

You mean like everyone swarming in and gobbling down a species until there's nothing left? Even filing lawsuits and petitioning Congress to be allowed to do so?

The river in my area was being fished out by commercial fishermen years ago and the government stepped in to stop it.
Due to netting, high value fish, which had catch limits and seasons, were 'accidentally' getting caught also. The fishermen, so as not to face huge fines, pulled the mostly dead or dying fish from their nets and tossed them over the side -- to die.

Basically, that was kinda like having no catch restrictions at all on fish like Trout.

The river is right next to the Atlantic Ocean and is salty but the fish are more confined.

The commercial fishermen filed lawsuits, protested, petitioned congress and raised all sorts of a fuss to retain the right to fish the river until there were no more fish. They lost, but the government compensated them.

That was well over 20 years ago. The local population of fish started making a comeback. Then the local population of humans exploded and 'sports fishermen' and thousands of pleasure boats flooded the river. Even with tighter restrictions and licenses needed, the fish population has dropped.

Oyster and clam beds have been nearly wiped out. Even 'garbage' fish like mullet now have catch limits. Commercial crabbers (not actually fishermen, so excluded from the ban) have made it so you can't catch the huge, delicious Blue Crabs that used to thrive there. Just the smaller ones, since the Crabbers have taken all of the older one.

I don't think we need to be that concerned over invasive species wiping out certain native fish.

The humans are doing a great job of it all by themselves.

What pisses me off about Yoda in the new movies is he didn't ALWAYS talk like that in Empire. It was like a tick of his species thought process occasionally leaking into his Common speech. It was more endearing when it wasn't every flippin' sentence.

Once did a family reunion trip to Nawlins, We went to Commanders Palace and ate nothing but oysters and drank nothing but Dixie Beer.
I didn't get stuck with the bill but I know I personally ate a full gross of the little jewels. 12 dozen is alot of oysters, just in case you didn't know.
