Its about time we hunt these people down. By the way, for all of you who are going to post things like we should wait for more proof before doing anything, I'm sure the government knows a lot more than they are telling us. If they are going to move against Osama bin Laden of course they're not going to announce their plans to the world. They are going to use the element of suprise. If Osama bin Laden doesn't expect an attack he won't go into hiding.

Hello boys and girls

The word for today is Expiditious use of force with extreme prejudice

Can you say Expiditious use of force with extreme prejudice

Good... I knew that you could

I'm Inactive Ready Reserve, as all soldiers are for eight years from enlistment. I really don't want to go back (recurring neck pains and too much machismo to admit it), but if called, I will not hesitate. I'm going to bed, so I can wake up bright and early and go running.

Just like the good ol' days. Now, where's my copy of 'Reville'....

God bless you, Woody. If this one goes on as "long and terrible" as all the networks are saying (I personally thought this would be more of a one-shot Gulf War thing, but it seems the Pentagon isn't thinking that way) I may see you around ...

2001-09-14 12:59:47 AM
So, is this in preparation for an invasion? I think they already have everything planned out (obviously it's kept in secret until the attack actually occurs)

If Uncle Sam called for people to join, I'd head down, even though I would probably be rejected (flat feet, yeehaa).

am i the only one who thinks that advocating war is pretty cowardly from people who aren't in the military? am i also the only one who remembers that our country's politicians don't hesitate to lie to us if it suits their political interests? and that a popular war is always good politics? i guess so.

I would say part of it is going to play out like this. The 7th fleet will land marines in Pakistan. The Marines will move inland and set up bases on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Then the bombing will commence as the armor and artillery get into position. After everything is in position along the border the troops will sweep in and take over everything. There might also be a russian intiative along Afghanistan's northern border.

Then every body moves to take care of Iraq, and so on from there.

I think China should be invited to this party, too.
After all, who is going to argue with 'the big three'.

2001-09-14 01:28:35 AM
I see a more selective approach. Our military isn't very good at sustained ground-holding exercises. We've got more of a "blitzkreig" mentality. In addition, Afghanistan has never been successfully invaded.

Depending on the enemy, Russia will probably feint at the border of Afghanistan, and we'll plow in with selective strikes at training bases and Taliban infrastructure. Pakistan should listen to reason.

And no, we shouldn't invite China. Last time we had a Communist to a war, he stayed far too long.

Strike hard, strike fast, leave a bunch of bodies.

thank you, Meat.

I will join if we go to war. I feel like donating blood and waving a flag is not enough.

for those of you who didn't read the article (and lord knows we all skip the article from time to time) they are being called up to help in new york, not go overseas and kill people.

2001-09-14 03:02:15 AM
From time to time people tend to stray from the topic.

2001-09-14 03:28:38 AM
I am supposed to be out in Dec. But if I have to, I will be there giving you all the ammo you need.

fox news says seven out of ten americans supports military action. they are also talking like war is a forgone conclusion. the more i read and hear about this, the more i feel ill.

the initial events of tuesday were shocking, but i'm on the west coast and i only know one person in new york (she's fine, and doesn't even know anybody who's missing). but i see a big difference between the "bad guys" callously taking human life and the people who are supposed to be the good guys being so enthusiastic about the same thing.

the same people who were so outraged at people celebrating tuesday will be celebrating when our bombs start dropping in afghanistan, iraq, etc. and they won't even see the hypocracy of it.

it's easy to think lightly of the deaths of innocents when they are halfway around the world and have different colored skin from you.

2001-09-14 06:21:18 AM
What, meat, you think we should sit back and do nothing? Those countries you listed are even now harboring and providing trailing grounds for terrorists which are most likely planning more attacks against our soil. Do you really think we should give them the opportunity to do just that? I have no qualms about bombing the shiat out of Afghanistan.

Next time it could be a 767 in your neck of the woods.

Doesn't going to "war" with Bin Laden elevate him to quasi nation status? This guy does not deserve to be elevated in any way whatsoever. They should bring him to justice, but as a criminal, as a mass-murderer, as a dog... but not a nation. The more status he gets, the more of a martyr he'll become.

2001-09-14 08:17:50 AM
digital meltdown: despite tuesday's events, little has changed as far as the existence of terrorists in various countries, tolerated by the governments of those countries or not. and nobody was saying anything about hunting them down on monday.

basically, it comes down to whether or not you believe that killing innocent civilians because you're mad at a powerful minority which happens to exist in the same country is wrong.
if you think it's fine, then there's no reason to bomb anybody.
if you think it's wrong, then we probably shouldn't bomb people.

the average afghani has suffered more at the hands of the taliban than the average american. if the US was able to remove the taliban government, the afghani people would love the US. but, most likely, we will rain bombs down on them in retaliation for actions which the government they are fighting may be culpable.

but, hey. we're all upset. so let's smash things to show the world not to mess with us. we're the biggest kid on this playground, and we don't put up with no sh!t! i guess i'm the only one who doesn't want to see more innocent people die.

2001-09-14 08:18:45 AM
oh, and dude. he seems to be against killing innocents, too.

2001-09-14 08:24:40 AM
Meat,
I am against killing innocents too. I am also against capital punishment; I believe they should suffer a long time. Another thing I have against capital punishment is that it is so bloody hard to correct when you pick an innocent. Having said this, I feel I must also say that I want those responsible (the actual hijakckers are already dead) caught and punished.

2001-09-14 08:48:44 AM
appie: i am totally in agreement that the individuals responsible should receive retribution. and i can't imagine there is any retribution on those individuals that i would consider too severe. but bombing is not going to achieve that. it is only going to kill more innocent people. what we need is, perhaps, surgical special forces type military action.

2001-09-14 08:56:33 AM
"The Pentagon plans to call several THOUSAND reservists to active duty in the next few days in what defense officials said today would likely mark the start of a much larger military MOBILIZATION in the wake of Tuesday's terrorist strikes."

i read the article meat, i don't know what article you are reading, due you type just to hear yourself, you read the farking article and stop typing stupid s h i t.

2001-09-14 08:58:56 AM
unfortunately the deaths of innocents are a part of war.

2001-09-14 09:14:59 AM
The initial call-up will focus on reservists with "specialized skills," according to a senior military official. He said many of the extra
personnel were necessary to support combat air patrols over major metropolitan areas instituted this week. They will fill out the ranks of pilots,
aviation maintenance crews and air traffic controllers. The Pentagon has the authorization to call about 40,000 reservists, the official said.

State authorities already have enlisted about 10,000 National Guard troops to assist in civilian recovery efforts in Washington and New York.

why don't you try thinking about things critically, there, spurty? i know you have to keep up your enthusiasm about killing innocent people, because you have to follow your orders regardless, but that doesn't mean you have to be a dumbass. i thought the air force was supposed to be the smart ones.

am incorrect in my interpretation of your post that you are somewhat legitimately challenging my 02:57:34 post, and then expecting that that weak attack will somehow carry over to my other, unrelated comments?

2001-09-14 09:58:01 AM
Even if you can't fight there are still ways to help the cause. Just watch your back over here if things do start as they have said they will have retalliation in some form. Serin gas, poisoning the water, etc... come to mind first. I don't mean to sound militant but be prepared for anything!

SO the CIA paid for this : SCARY!

Experts said that besides bin Laden -- who honed his guerrilla skills against Soviet troops in the 1980s commanding Arab fighters funded by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency -- few have the cash or expertise to mount such attacks.

Look in your own backyards AMerica!

do you know anything, can you read, are you a fuc_king canadian? "the intial call-up", that means the FIRST wave of call-ups. that leads me to believe there will be several groups of recalls. i never said i got a hard on to kill someone, to tell you the truth i'm kinda depressed about it. when "several high-ranking Pentagon officers" start talking LIKE THIS, they expected the U.S. military response this time would be far more aggressive and require a larger force than the limited attacks that have characterized past American reactions. (THAT MEANS WE ARE GOING TO WAR)how's that for thinking critically. if you have not realized by now,yes i'm talking of your post 09-14-01 02:57:34 AM, you felt you needed to point out (flame on somebodys post by directly commenting about the content) that it HAS nothing to do with going overseas, when clearly it is. i(A) was talking to woody on this issue(B), which didn't not warrant a comment from you(C), and felt you should be called out on it. so really it was like,(A + B) and you should (C) your way past that post, now isn't that right. from your comments it is clear that you are 15, not from the U.S, and completely ignorrant on how the military operates now-a-days. please i must know if you are in fact one or all of those. and you are correct on the af thing.

Okay, okay, both sides, STFU and think for a while. it's hot tempers and closed minds like these that led to the farkng cold war lasting so long and all the 'better dead than red' fervor. I personally had to break up a fight where two redneck pricks were trying to threaten a poor Indian woman that worked where I do, simply because her skin color made her look arabic in their eyes.

Jesus Frankenchrist, what we need now are cool heads and rational thought. Sure, my reasons may be somewhat religiously motivated (An it, harm none, do what thou will), but still. what happened to us is a tragedy. Bin Laden deserves justice, true, -but- (and this is a big but,) american tempers, being what they are, we'd probably fire on innocents because we were upset, leading to people calling us terrorists, leading to various countries calling holy war.

Okay, this is going to lead to the inevitable 'so? nuke 'em all.' which itself is what I fear.. we drop nukes, that's nuclear dust thrown into the atmosphere, raising the general level of radiation around the world, meaning higher chances of birth defects here in america. so, indirectly, we'd be bombing ourselves. Food for thought, isn't it?

Saying, "Fark it, nuke 'em till they glow and shoot 'em in the dark!" and actually going out there and doing it are two entirely seperate things.

People are justifiably pissed off. Let 'em vent. None of these guys are going to be pressing the button (I hope), so let it go.

Man I feel all-but useless. I'm advised not to donate blood 'cause of my pregnancy (well, I don't want to harm my baby). I live in Ohio, pretty far from the crime scenes.

Guess all I can do is have that US flag on my car antenna...guess it's better than nothing....

spurt: my 02:57:34 comment was had nothing to do with what you said. it was more directed at epsilon, soylent, and a few others to a lesser degree. what ever made you think i was talking to you? beyond that, this is an open forum, so your oh so clever elementary school level comments about a, b, and c are particularly out of place. or at least they would be if i was even talking to you in the first place! since i wasn't, though, perhaps you should take your own advice.

Furthermore, the article was somewhat ambiguous, but it had some pretty significantly placed "maybe" words. i'm guessing i interpreted it less hawkishly than you, but only because i don't want to see people like you dying overseas. i don't even want to see people like you working in mopp gear in the desert over there.

as to your request for information, i'm 24, from seattle, and ex-USAR.

2001-09-14 05:20:07 PM
Isn't it true that since most of Bin Laden's training bases are out in the mountains to the east of populated areas, that invasions -- even nukes -- would kill relativly few innocents?
