I'm looking to adopt a midsize to SUV size dog in central NJ. Why is it harder to adopt a dog than to buy one from the mall?

Freaking rescue places want to inspect my home. I'm thinking of just going to the mall and paying $800 for a dog out of spite to all the no kill shelters that want to give me a rectal exam before letting me take a dog.

Nuttier than squirrel turds: what is it? cant access youtube at work.

Ladies compliment dogs, encourage adoption.
Dogs behave like dogs, licking their faces and jump around a bit.
Everyone laughs.
It's going to be 22 degrees on Wednesday.

The rescue place where I got my dog actually called all of my "references" and grilled them about everything up to and including my finances. But the "home visit" was a complete formality. It was basically just making sure that I didn't live in a slum or something with 10 other dogs. She walked in the front door and said "looks good, when should we bring her to you?"

Best decision ever. Love my rescue girl.

You can cut the cheese now. Bwahahahahahaha

In the hands of an alpha male or an alpha female, I'm sure that these dogs could become socialized. As it was however, I was glad that a fight didn't break out between the dogs, followed by intervention by the humans, followed by mangling of non-dominant humans.
Or was I glad? Well, it was quite entertaining, anyway.

This. One of my friend had a farking hell of a time trying to get a shelter dog, half the dogs are farked up/pitbulls and no one is gonna adopt them. And if you find a good one they make you pay a ton in fees after the ass exam (ok maybe not an ass exam, but they want to check your house, check out your job/income, get references and so on). She ended up getting a dog for free from a friend who was moving and couldn't take the dog.

Did anyone watch until the end when the woman who was just face raped by the dog says to the male anchor, "Oh man, you cut the cheese. Good job.". I thought that was the funniest part yet.

And I thought the adopt-a-pet segment we did today was bad. The dog's cock kept growing out of its thingy. (pops)

At least we pre-tape the pet-handling portion before the show, in case something like this (the link) were to happen.

The sad thing about Pinky is that he probably got euthanized for that little escapade.

Speaking as the loving owner of a dog that was rescued from a puppy mill by a no-kill shelter here in NYC, this is a stupid comment.

The people aren't coming out to judge you. They're coming out to make sure you have the ability to take care of a dog and aren't going to just chain it to a tree outside and leave it the fark alone all day. They want to see that you have water bowls, someplace for it to sleep, if it's a puppy they might ask you if you know how to train a dog, crap like that.

That's it. When I adopted my westie (3.5 months old), named Wheelie, I filled out all of the paperwork, met with the people at the shelter, and they made a time to take him out to my place. They dropped him off and did a 2 minute inspection all in one go.

How is this at all a bad thing? You're really just shooting yourself in the foot if you spend that much money on a dog at the mall, which is more likely to have health problems (shelters are really good about checking / remedying health problems in my experience). Plus you're just feeding into the machine that produces MORE puppy mills... Which I think we can all agree are a bad thing.

/rant over
