The woman died the following Sunday, although the hospital has said there is no evidence to link the death to the table incident.

Well it sure as hell did not help.

"We offered the loan of three mobile operating tables to minimise the disruption to services"

mmmmm, tables that are designed to collapse 'on loan' from the same company? sweet deal!

thanks, no.

This is nothing. In this country we also do orthopedic surgery using dessert spoons.

jesus thats scary.

The table didn't really collapse. It just fell apart a bit at one end. Some nurses held it together. Don't exaggerate.

2003-03-02 12:46:20 PM
unless she wss 500 pounds or something (which they should still hold) why would a hospital use a table that has even a CHANCE of falling? I mean I could throw my computer off my table (like strongbad) and lay on it...and it would EASILY support me, and alot more....

Someone jinxed the table, look!

2003-03-02 01:04:19 PM
He said: "It was top-of-the-range equipment, properly maintained and properly serviced.
ummmm I think not.

Is it just me or, is there some rather odd statements in this article?

We don't know what caused it. The Medical Devices Agency (MDA) and our own investigations will have to show that."
...have to show that??? Maybe "state" that.

"But it seemed inappropriate to have to ask our surgeons to operate on systems which, although we might have been able to amend them, we didn't know what was wrong."
....amend (ie, fix?) How can you fix something when you don't know what's wrong???

/temporarily dons grammar/logic Nazi hat

Dude, don't rip on universal healthcare, it rules--even if the tables fall apart. And it ain't free, taxes pay for it.

Stupid medical shiat happens everywhere in the world, even in......THE STATES!

so very many malpractice suits....

bla bla bla

would you believe "are?"

/LOL at my own mistake

2003-03-02 01:11:40 PM
The hospital's medical director, Terrence Lewis, said the problem was completely unexpected.

I sure as hell *hope* it was unexpected. Or maybe they had a Pool going: pay a buck and pick which day the table will collapse.

Cromar - "/socializedhealthcare"

This kind of stuff never happens in our enlightened 'for profit' health care system.

This is either a repeat, I'm turning psychic, or this sort of horrible tragedy is happening more and more often. I blame the republicans.

2003-03-02 01:19:03 PM
That's what they get when the doctors play trampoline on the table with her.

2003-03-02 01:23:28 PM
A female patient died after the top of the table became detached during a procedure

Something about the way that's phrased just gives me the willies.

And Flinch, it's a repeat, I think. Don't blame the republicans. It's socialized medicine's fault . . .

Doctor 2- "my insurance should just cover this lawsuit"
Doctor 3- " Ha ha that was farking funny "

Flinch: Actually did you know that homocide coverage on network news increased 73 percent from 1990 to 1998 while homicides dropped 33 percent? Stuff like this getting reported works the same way.

Theodoric of York: [ steps toward the camera ] Wait a minute. Perhaps she's right. Perhaps I've been wrong to blindly folow the medical traditions and superstitions of past centuries. Maybe we barbers should test these assumptions analytically, through experimentation and a "scientific method". Maybe this scientific method could be extended to other fields of learning: the natural sciences, art, architecture, navigation. Perhaps I could lead the way to a new age, an age of rebirth, a Renaissance! [ thinks for a minute ] Naaaaaahhh!

JHC, first a farked transplant, now the tables falling apart. What next, the MRI machines yanking guns out of holsters and flinging them into kids?
