(a Haughty revelation)   Incredibly, President George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac in early 2003 that Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog, the Bible's satanic agents of the Apocalypse   (secularhumanism.org) divider line 568

Congratulations... you elected a delusional retard... twice

2009-08-06 09:08:07 AM
Magog is huge.

2009-08-06 09:10:15 AM
The Palestinian foreign minister later said the American president told him he was "on a mission from God"...?

Unfortunately, the Penguin wasn't around to keep Bush in line...

Article = crock of shiat

Hal Lindsey (another Revelations crackpot who wrote books in the '70s) thought that Gog and Magog were the USA and the USSR.

Everyone knows the French kiss and tell.

I wish we could hear some audio... probably sounded like a crank call.

Chirac- huh?
Bush- Gog and Magog.
Chirac- Don't gog on magog?
Bush-- No no no. Gog and Magog in Irog.

WTFDYW: Article = crock of shiat

I found it a little hard to believe, who knows though.

2009-08-06 09:37:13 AM
agreed, but I can believe it. I want to believe it.

2009-08-06 09:39:12 AM
I'm pretty sure "gog" and "magog" is what Bush said when he was choking on a pretzel. Chirac misinterpreted him.

You farker you. People in the outer office think I'm going insane.

The only reason I can't bring myself to believe this is that I can't fathom George W. Bush knows this much about the Bible.

2009-08-06 10:32:21 AM
It sounds far fetched but the problem is I want to believe this because it lends credence to the theocracy he wanted the country to be.

2009-08-06 10:34:03 AM
I bet those two are hoarding all those WMDs. That would explain a lot.

2009-08-06 10:34:11 AM
Not buying this yet. It seems a little too insane, even for him.

Action Replay Nick: The only reason I can't bring myself to believe this is that I can't fathom George W. Bush knows this much about the Bible.

This.

2009-08-06 10:36:27 AM
That sounds too delusional even for Bush. I don't know of any evangelical who thinks they could forestall the Apocalypse. If anything, some sects want to hasten it.

2009-08-06 10:37:28 AM
I'm agog.

2009-08-06 10:40:39 AM
"After the 2003 call, the puzzled French leader didn't comply with Bush's request. Instead, his staff asked Thomas Romer, a theologian at the University of Lausanne, to analyze the weird appeal."

So, Bush said God wants us to do this and Chirac said, "Let me check with my own oracles first."

That is weird.

FTA: It's awkward to say openly, but now-departed President BushSarah Palin is a religious crackpot, an ex-drunk of small intellect. who "got saved." HeShe never should have been be entrusted with the power to start wars.

I Said: Not buying this yet. It seems a little too insane, even for him.

Nothing that comes out about that administration will ever surprise me.

The head of Blackwater thinks the war in Iraq is a "Crusade" and has murdered government officials for his own gain.

Donald Rumsfeld posted bible verses on the security reports he sent to Bush to guide him along.

Sounds like he fits right in over there.

How sad is it that, despite how crazy of a claim this is, I'm only *slightly* skeptical and not completely playing the "total BS" card?

I just have trouble believing such a claim wouldn't get widespread publicity at the time it was made. Wayyyy too good of a story not to get picked up by the internet or legit news organizations.

2009-08-06 10:50:53 AM
Why is this so hard to believe? Seriously, after all the crazy shiat that has come out, why not believe this? Fundies elected Bush because he was one of them. They believe the shiat from Revelations to be quite literal.

2009-08-06 10:53:45 AM
I call shenanigans. Everyone knows Christian fundies in america WANT the apocolypse. This is so they can be "raptured" into heaven while everone else gets to suck it and live under a one world government run by the anti-christ. And is also one of the reasons we love Israel so much, and in fact is THE reason America backed the formation of Israel after WWII.

2009-08-06 10:54:01 AM
I always thought Gog and Magog represented the Phoenicians or the Lebanese - the land north of Israel. Magog from the north and the Ethiopians from the south were supposed to crush Israel in a vice.

2009-08-06 10:54:20 AM
Assuming the article is true...he obviously has a massively flawed understanding of what the bible actually says about Gog and Magog.

Because when you already have a negative opinion of someone, it's fairly easy to fall for lies that reinforce your perceptions. This just seems "too Bush" for Bush. He obviously thought he was on a mission from God, but believing that he would thwart the will of God and avert the Apocalypse? That just sounds outlandish. There are enough reasons to criticize Bush without having to make more up.

That was my first thought as well. My inner monologue went something like this:

"There's no way in hell that's possible."
"You sure about that, Gonz?"
"... OK, good point, self. How 'bout this- it's not likely, but also not out of the realm of possibility. Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to go over here and weep for the Republic."

If Bush really thought he was seeing the Biblical prophesies play out, why did he act at all? If it was written, so let it be done. Did he think he could override the Almighty Word of God?

/If God is almighty, your prayers are a waste of time; if he's not, your prayers are a waste of time.

Yeah, umm... I'll believe it when it's reported somewhere BESIDES places like alternet and secularhumanism.
