That "half naked S&M shoot" JUST HAPPENS TO BE MY WIFE! LORD AND SAVIOR!

This Priest enjoys a little S&M, I'll bet.

If nothing was damaged, who cares?

Priests are right at the top of my list of people whose opinions mean jack squat. Join the real world, do something honest with your life and then maybe I will care what you think.

FTA: This is one of the snaps which caused outrage as it features the model half-naked and with little covering her breasts. Image has been cropped for purposes of decency.

If that's your idea of decency, I don't want to live in your world.

I'm not offended by nudity, but they profaned someone's place of worship. Dislike religion all you like, but it doesn't give anyone the right to invade another person's worship space and use it for erotic photographs. Also doing that on an altar and even worse, some poor person's grave. That's just very disrespectful.

To me this is like someone breaking into a family member's house and shooting a porno and then they get caught and they are all "well, it's natural". It's pretty shoddy behavior.

Yeah, I came here to make the same complaint. Not that Maggie Smith isn't awesome, but come on, I was almost there.

Christianity is the dominant religion where this was done. Plus which the place was photogenic. Wasn't just about using a "place of worship." It had to look good on camera, too.

Also, a larger point is that Christianity is the de facto faith of the Western World. As such, it is a reminder that the Western World is hanging out on the bunny trail a little too long. It's time to grow up as a culture and stop pretending that religion doesn't belong in the discard pile of human advancement.

No that's not right either. But 2 wrongs don't make a right. Having them fondle each other on an altar tho is so crazy anti-religion tho... I can't believe this photographer thinks you can just run around doing this to private property. That this should be ok.

Maggie Smith's pic is there as a plug for a pretty funny movie.
If you had RTFA, you'd know that it was filmed at the church in question.

So because they are the dominant religion it's ok to just abuse their property? This would be wrong if it was just someone's backyard they broke into. They made it worse tho by profaning religious buildings and graves because THAT WAS THE POINT. It's gothic S&M photography. The are *selling* the blasphemy. And I mean that literally. These pictures were taken to make money off profaning religious items.

That's sick, no matter what religion it is.

I think the point he was (poorly) trying to make was that you shouldn't do sexual things on top of anyone's grave. His example of MLK was exaggeration to make a point.

I DO have a problem making money off of other people's property (that I would not have if this had been a frat prank, for example). Does it actually count as private property though?

I get all the blasphemy I need for free.

Because to you, MLK is the opposite of Christianity?

It seems that some causes/faiths/personalities are more equal than others.

If it's considered naughty/fun to insult a church with an S/M shoot, it SHOULD be considered naughty/fun to have an orgy on MLK's grave.

OR

It should be considered disrespectful and wrong to do EITHER of the above.

/Really getting tired of the double standards

that's weird, every time I go to church, there's this larger than life depiction of what appears to be some sort of bondage s/m thing with a nearly naked man probably 15 feet high... right behind the priest...

This is interesting as I believe the original christian churches(prior to 500 AD) had a big round room in the back where they would have orgies. I remember seeing that on a PBS or DISC special but the Google isn't helping much.

Coming from a person who enjoys S&M pics (well some of them), I think the photographer is being disrespectful. 'He didn't know it would offend anybody', he says, yet if he really cared he would destroy/delete the pics out of respect for the ruckus. I don't like the cut of his copout.

You realise this is a Church of England church right? Not Roman Catholic. And while they have their own problems, they don't have the child abuse problems that the RC Church does. So basically your comment is completely off-base.
