I hope they give the biatch the chair, that would teach all those other teachers to fark around with there students.

ActionFigure: The video starts with the reporter saying "She says she's the victim of exactly what makes some people afraid to go into teaching..."

for real? is anyone analyzing career options and saying "I would love to teach, but I am not going to because I don't want to be accused of having sex with a student"?

I find that very hard to believe.

There's been study after study after study that bears this out, almost exclusively for males.

Then, as a result, young girls have few if any positive male role models/mentors in their lives and, hence, never learn that there are ways to garner positive attention from males (particularly older ones) that don't involve tramping it up and resorting to using their sexuality for attention

As a result they're even more likely to instigate affairs with male teachers (the notion that teen boys are willing and enthusiastic participants when they sleep with adult female teachers but teen girls who do the same with male teachers are not is patently absurd) and, hence, the circle of life continues.

Once again, the "law of unintended consequences" rears its ugly head and the very sex-based moral panic that claims to "protect" teenage girls (all the sex laws on the book are purportedly there to protect EVERYONE but we all know well that it's truly only women who are "protected" by them and men who are vigorously prosecuted for breaking them) drives men from careers as teachers results in more sluttier girls having more sex with either their peers or other older men.

TommyymmoT:
Now let me get this straight.
In Rhode Island, it's legal for 16 year olds to work as strippers.
It's legal for them to rip off their tops, and shake their tits in your face, yet if you have a picture of one on your hard drive, you go to prison for 12 years?

Of course. Come on, everyone knows you aren't allowed to take pictures in strip clubs.

ciocia: doyner: While it is a travesty (if she's innocent), it is a bit refreshing to see a woman get burnt for the kind of thing men have been getting nailed for for years.

Thank god we live under the puritan tradition that will ruin people at the mere accusation of sexual misconduct.

Oh_Enough_Already: Wait, you mean you were fired, shamed, arrested, basically had your life turned upside down and ruined all based on an unproven, unsubstantiated and completely untrue allegation?

Wow, that's horrible.

WELCOME TO BEING A MAN, TOOTS.

No, welcome to the late-running 1984 (the society, not the book). See, the average person could read this story and think, "Gee, if this happens to women, too, it could happen to anybody. Maybe the problem is injustice, and we should all fight that." But people who basically hate women--like the examples we see here--are delighted with injustice.
//You need help.

Nobody, here, I believe, "hates women."

What we hate is injustice.

And NOBODY is a bigger proponent of injustice or beneficiary of injustice than women are.

Think about it: they cry and cry and cry for equal rights, opportunities, etc but clam up (no pun intended) when the responsibilities, obligations or consequences of those rights come into play.

Women who break the law are all but uniformly given lighter sentences than males who do the same across the board (especially when they claim some "evil male" either forced them to do it or was so "mean" to them that they "lost control" and committed whatever crime they did.

Nowhere is this more true than with sex-related crimes and the near-to-daily accounts of female teachers sleeping with underage males.

As long as "equality" is what they're demanding anybody who even remotely considers them self a "feminist" should be DEMANDING that these women get punished just as severely as men for this kinda shiat, right?

Well, ladies . . .

crickets chirp . . . . . .

If not, if the sexes are NOT truly equal then there are a myriad group of rights that women should be willing to give up in exchange for being a protected class of citizens as well as members of a group seldom held accountable for their actions socially, morally or legally.

Seriously, I will contribute 500.00 to the defense fund of the first male who's arrested for having sex with an underage female who's lawyer takes his case to the USSC on appeal when he is severely punished as such punishment (given the minuscule sentences women receive for COMITTING THE SAME DAMN CRIME!!!) is in flagrant violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

2009-07-31 08:13:43 AM
So we'll just wait for the evidence, properly submitted in impartial trial proceedings, and justice will be served with no harm to the innocent.

Wait. Yes. Right.

drxym: Why do people take polygraph tests ?

Some people actually believe they work. They'd be wrong of course, but hey.

Is that the only experience you've had?

2009-07-31 08:35:41 AM
Polygraph tests don't work. I am shocked that a school and police would over react in this manner. C'mon, fire a teacher based on a 16 yr old jocks bragging? Chances are he made it up.

If she is innocent, I hope she wins the lawsuit.

2009-07-31 08:39:11 AM
I predict that she wins a huge lawsuit, and leaves town. If anyone follows her, they'll find that she's still shacking up with boy she's accused of sleeping with, in addition to his friend who started the rumors.

The police officer in charge of the case is also in on the scheme and will end up dead.

The student will end up killing everyone else involved, and get away with the settlement money.

CruiserTwelve: steelpeg: While I understand your attempt at sensibility, what about those who did pass judgment - like the school who fired her?? I think that's what Weaver was talking about, and that's what I took most out of the article.

From that perspective, I agree. Unless there was some overwhelming evidence of her guilt, the school jumped the gun.

That's not what I got from the comments though. It appeared that everyone decided the accusation was unwarranted just based on her word.

I wonder though, where are the Farkers that always call for a cop's blood based on mere accusation? I guess hot teachers get the benefit of the doubt.

Could you provide an example, because all the cop threads I have seen involved video. I could be wrong, but I think you are biased and over-simplifying things.

I have finally decided to finish my History degree and was planning to teach at the high school level. Both of my parents are retired high school teachers. I have been told by my parents, a female professor of mine, and few other people, not to do it because of this ongoing "witch-hunt". I look younger than I am (28). Having a young son, teaching would be great for me because of the schedule. But reading the comments here and from what I have heard from the people I know, I am seriously considering a different career path.

Prove it.

I suspect you're misguidedly referencing the well known sentencing disparities that exist between the penalties for powder cocaine vs. crack cocaine.

And said discrepancies (unjust as they may admittedly be) effect blacks more because more blacks use crack.

It's not BECAUSE they're black.

No defense attorney ever argued in open court "but your honer, my client is white."

Can you say the same for attorneys representing women?

That they've never argued for leniency (and RECIEVED it - often times without even asking for it merely at the judge's discretion) because of their client's gender?

Furthermore, previous records, likelihood of "rehabilitation" (I know the concept of said in prison is absurd but it's still taken into account in sentencing) etc, also play a role.

Sad as it may be to admit such either to yourself or publicly lets say (hypothetically)two teens were charged (independently of one another) with the same crime and came up for sentencing.

One is black and one is white.

Who is - statistically - more likely to have a previous record, criminal history, etc? The black one or the white one?

These issues cannot be introduced at trial obviously but they factor into sentencing.

So yeah, your comparison is fundamentally without merit.

Such discrepancies obviously exist but - although the race-baiting hucksters would have you believe otherwise - they are not intrinsically BASED on race.

Please try again.

Pardon me, you're right, more blacks are arrested for using crack.

In either case the notion that blacks receive stiffer sentences than whites who commit the same crime BECAUSE they're black is patently absurd.

No one, however, can argue that women accused of crimes (particularly sex crimes) do INDEEED receive lighter sentences than men who commit the same crimes.

You're not very bright, are you?

People convicted of non-violent, white collar crimes (especially those with NO PREVIOUS RECORD like Madoff) do not get sent to the same kind of prisons as a "B&E guy."

Furthermore, breaking and entering is NOT a federal crime and, hence such a conviction would not result in said defendant being sentenced to a FEDERAL PRISON, you silly, misguided, and utterly delusional child.

Kalashinator: log_jammin: Kalashinator: /actually at a loss for words to explain how retarded that is

it was a big deal in the 80's. we had to sit through more than one "satan wants to touch your peepee" and "we're you born with a tail? of course not! thats how we KNOW evolution is the devils idea!" lecture in school.

Your school treated evolution as satanism? I went to Catholic schools all my life and not one teacher (couple of them were nuns) tried to pass bullshiat like that on us. I guess I should be thankful I spent most of the 80's in diapers.

Oddly enough (or possibly not so, considering the truly epic history of integrity with Catholic education), Catholic schools have never been real big on mixing theology with science. I went to a school run by Jesuits and was taught evolution in science class and transubstantiation in theology class ;)

Btw, for those who are curious, this sums up the Church's position on things like genetics, evolution, astronomy, physics, etc:

The question about the origins of the world and of man has been the object of many scientific studies which have splendidly enriched our knowledge of the age and dimensions of the cosmos, the development of life-forms and the appearance of man. These discoveries invite us to even greater admiration for the greatness of the Creator, prompting us to give him thanks for all his works and for the understanding and wisdom he gives to scholars and researchers.... 284. The great interest accorded to these studies is strongly stimulated by a question of another order, which goes beyond the proper domain of the natural sciences. It is not only a question of knowing when and how the universe arose physically, or when man appeared, but rather of discovering the meaning of such an origin.

Or to summarize:

Science = How.
God = Why.

To be truthful, only American-style "Christians" are idiots. Even rural Muslims out in Bumfarkistan have less retarded ideas about the relationship between science and religion. It's one good thing about the Catholic Church - It's a global organization, so it hasn't been entirely tainted by this very American brand of idiocy.
