GanjSmokr: From what I've read on fark, this should be easy money for someone, right?

People make these kinds of offers all the time. When they're proven wrong, they never pay up.

See T. Boone Pickens, or the Florida lawyer who offered $1 million to anyone who could prove his client was able to travel a distance in the time prosecutors alleged, or the tax cheats who offer money for anyone who can prove the government can legally collect income taxes.

This guy has no intention of honoring the bet. Doesn't matter what evidence is presented to him.

Rapmaster2000: belowner: I don't get this. There was a birth announcement in the local paper.

He was obviously born in Hawaii. Something about that birth certificate is worth keeping under wraps, however.

I don't think the scandal is about citizenship at all. I think it's about his parentage. Otherwise they would just release the damn thing already.

I think it's because a birth certificate is like ones medical records - none of your goddamn business.

/not you in particular

This is what I have been saying for days. Obama has already cleared untold number of hurtles regarding his citizenship. caving in now and "just showing" his proof would be dignifying an entirely baseless claim. But hey, if birthers want to run around thinking that they just give away the keys to the White House (let alone the Senate) without actually vetting constitutional eligibility, hey, you go right ahead.

You can't even get a license to drive in this nation without proving citizenship, yet birthers want us to believe that they just give a man the goddamn nuclear football because his word is good enough? All I've asked is that birthers sit down and consider what i just said, and the absurdity of such a situation.

Cinaed: Unfortunately this homeless guy has lots of friends and the internet.
And for some bizarre reason, is putting up some pretty nice sums of money to prove/disprove your right to operate a vehicle.
Nuts to the DMV, homeless man demands this because he doesn't like your Ford Fusion.

It's more like the homeless guy yells "[your name here] IS A PHONY" from his place on the sidewalk, and he's free to do so because the town is soft on bums, but you and the DMV have already made it clear to everyone that you presented two forms of ID.

Birthers are loud, but they aren't mainstream, not even within the right.

Mercutio74: SpwimmingInNY: That one's a modern certificate made by who knows who.

Made by some clerk who works for the state gov't of Hawaii. It was then notarized by the proper official.

TheMadChaosopher: all of this can be easily cleared up and put to rest once Barry Soetoro shows us his birth certificate.

Done and done. He's produced such a document. It might not have the exact title you want it to have, but then again, you don't get to set Hawaiian governmental policy, do you?

Aren't there any Hawaiians on Fark who could request their own birth certificate and then compare it with the one that's available on factcheck.org?

GanjSmokr: From what I've read on fark, this should be easy money for someone, right?

Really? What proof - sky's the limit here - do you think would qualify as being to Hommel's satisfaction? The original birth certificate? That could have been forged any time in the past six months. Home movies of the birth? Can fake those easily.
I mean, seriously, what proof could you hold up that would make Hommel say "oh, yes, you're right, I'm satisfied"?

Actually, it was 14. And Obama's mother was 19 when he was born. The statutory requirements were fulfilled. From December 24, 1952 to November 14, 1986, this was the law:
A child born outside of the United States to ONE United States citizen parent and ONE alien parent will be entitled to U.S. citizenship PROVIDING the American citizen parent had, prior to the birth of the child, been physically present in the U.S. or one of its outlying possessions for a period, or periods totaling TEN (10) YEARS, at least FIVE (5) of those years must have been after the age of FOURTEEN (14).

I will wager $10,000.00 that within the Cubic embodiment of Nature, there are 4 simultaneous 24 hour days within a single rotation of Earth. Acknowledge the math below or go to hell.

4 Day Cube disproves 1 Day God.

1-Midday to midday = a 24 hour day rotation.
2-Sundown to sundown = a 24 hour day rotation.
3-Midnight to midnight = a 24 hour day rotation.
4-Sunup to sunup = a 24 hour day rotation.

4 Day math condemns 1 Day fools.
These 4 absolute simultaneous days PROVES the
1 day god, 1day academia, 1 day religion and the
1 day media to be erroneous, fictitious and evil lies.

Education equates to a mass icepick lobotomy -
destroying the mind's ability to think as opposites.

All 4/24 hour days occur within 1 Earth rotation.
You educated stupid word animals can't fathom
this greatest social and scientific math of creation.

IBM has a policy of fighting a lawsuit far in excess of what it would cost to simply pay out.

They will spend 10 million to defeat a 1 million dollar lawsuit. They do that so they don't invite more lawsuits where it would be cheaper simply to settle than to fight. Eventually it will cost them a lot more.

I think a similar situation might be involved here. Why cave? If most of the birthers suddenly became convinced as they said they would, they will move onto the next thing.

I guess they don't care that this logic automatically disqualifies Bobby Jindal (son of immigrants, born on US soil).

FTA:

"I, Jason Hommel, promise that I will give $100,000 to the first person who can prove to my satisfaction that Barack Obama, acting as president of the United States, is a 'natural born' citizen of the USA..." (my emphasis)

"To My satisfaction" is a pretty tall order, with no real criteria or even a basis in objective events. Hell, for $100,000 I'd be 'satisfied' that not only is Obama not a citizen, btu that he's in fact a halibut, dressed as a non-citizen, serving as president.

Furhtermore, in an interview with attornery Orly Taitz, one of the leaders of the Birther argument:

"In order to be the president and commander-in-chief, he has to be a natural-born citizen, so even if he were to be born in Hawaii, he could not be president and commander-in-chief, specifically because of his multiple citizenship."

-Dr. Orly Taitz, Esq., "Mother of the Birther Movement"
The Colbert Report, 7/28/2009

Evidently, for a Birther, proof that Obama is a natural-born citizen of the United States would not satisfy their requirement that he be a natural-born citizen of the United States. At least, I should say, not to their satisfaction.

Therefore, I would like to humbly submit that Jason Hommel is a shyster.

Thank you.
