Election? More like a coronation. Junior's mayor for life because he does a good job.

Even in the downturn, the city still improves. If you want your city to improve, get your own Dick Daley.

Uh, that's not how I meant it...

2003-02-26 02:39:23 PM
See that's the problem with the dead people nowadays they just aren't as motivated as the dead of yesteryear.

2003-02-26 02:39:58 PM
Well, if those dead people didn't vote, thwen they've got no reason to complain now.

The Daley machine.

He a pretty shiatty major.

We have half a park to prove it - oh yeah, it was due in 2000. We have municipal contracts paid in full, yet no work has been completed. We have a downtown district that is swarmed with high rise cranes building the latest luxury condo - did I mention there are also 7 skeletons of projects who have lost their funding?

I don't get involved in politics but as a resident of Chicago currently, my home is for sale and I won't miss a thing when I can finally say this is my last day in this crumbling city. Daley... thanks for your last name because that's all your worth.

I live in downtown Chicago (Printer's Row) and what Velodev says is true. There are ugly highrise condo towers going up everywhere.

I voted against Daley yesterday. I voted for someone I had never heard of before, just to make a point. No mayor should be in office this long. Even an honest person would get corrupt.

My husband's grandfather, a resident of Boss Daley's fine city, voted straight Democrat in the 1956, 1960, 1964, and 1968 Presidential elections. He died in 1952.

Have you ever seen Kwame Kilpatrick? Daley's only hope would be his organized crime connections and the control they hold over the detroit docks.

Were Daley's fist initials I.P.?
I got nothin'.

2003-02-26 02:48:58 PM
Ovenall, are you saying Daley isn't corrupt? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

79% of the voters voted for him. If Dick had the chance, he'd biatchslap every last one of those peasants. He doesn't give a crap about the people.

2003-02-26 02:49:14 PM
Nobody voted in this election. The election was for Mayor (Daley won by 300,000 votes), Treasurer (unopposed), City Clerk (unopposed) and Alderman of your ward(Many of whom were unopposed).

What happened to the "good old days" when we had an election every 3 months or so and there were 20 races and several referendi? Why was there no referendum in this election?

I do live here, and my favorite news item last night was about the voting station in the burbs where only 7 votes were cast all night. The people manning the station killed the time, and I quote the news, "by knitting and thinking."

Why? It's the cleanest of the "big cities", and Daley can take a good bit of credit for that.

Could be worse. At least he's not Giuliani.

How's Daley a shiatty mayor?

Chicago's one of I believe 3 cities in the whole US of A that has a growing population, a productivity level that's down a fraction of the national level, real estate that continues to appreciate, the most miles of bike lanes anywhere, and some really nice city beautification projects that continue to be implemented.

I remember the previous mayors and the way Chicago was then. I've seen what Daley has done, and he deserves to keep getting re-elected.

Daley IS corrupt.

And I'm tired of looking at him. Politicians become personal favorites of the locals, and keep their offices as though they were royalty. Damn it, it's a civil leadership position you get elected to, not some kind of beatification!

2003-02-26 02:56:27 PM
Uh...what is "beatification" exactly

2003-02-26 02:56:54 PM
As long as a Daley is mayor of Chicago, everything is gonna be A-OK

I don't care if he's a little corrupt. I don't care what his reasons are for holding office. The bottom line is he does the job and does it well (the "too many highrises" argument some people use is pretty weak).

Now, if you have something specific to pin on him legality-wise, and care to take it to court, I'll back ya. Until then...well, you get the idea.

disarmed Chicago is also the murder capitol of the US

That was last year.

Disarmed Chicago is that way because Chicagoans want it that way, you jackass. It's always the suburban gun nuts that biatch and moan about how they can't take their security blankets to a Cubs game.

Of everyone I know in this town, exactly two have guns. People just don't believe that arming everyone to the teeth is a solution.

Last year, some suburban prickless wonder tried to get people to bring guns to the Taste of Chicago, the biggest street fest we have, to test some loophole in the concealed weapons law. The theory was that if it was in a fanny pack, it was legal. It was not, and a bunch of people got arrested because Chicagoans saw the guns when these assholes went for their cash or whatever, and told the cops. If you want to stroke your cock, er, uh, Magnum, do it somewhere else.
