Yikes. I'm in NC and remember when they went above 3.2.

God I never realized it was capped at 6%. Then again, I've had some imported 20% fortified brew from Belgium. Yech. Not something to pound down while watching a game.

While I'm at it, if they do decide to go above 6%, my favorite store will be the place to get ANYTHING you want.

God I love that place. Even at 6 'or so' (heh heh)

Go download The Terrible Truth About Marijuana (1951).

Funny reefer madness intro leads to pretty realistic portrayal of heroin addiction leads to also realistic portrayal of withdrawl leads to "just say no" moral and red-baiting "maybe it's a commie plot" sidebar.

The best beer have 4.3-4.9 %. I've had 13% and it wan't any good. As far as I know high alco beers are for those who don't like beer. Don't need to drink as many to pass out.

We're ot talking about what states have the power to do, because then we have to go over a million different state Constitution variations. We're talking about what the FEDERAL government has the power to do, because I was making the analogy of fapping to the illegality of mary jane. I still haven't seen Constitutional justification for the illegalization of drugs. I have no idea how the Supreme Court justified it, which would be a good place to start looking if you're going to try and shoot me down here, which isn't looking likely.

I can tell you with about 90% sureness that masturbation in the privacy of your own home is not illegal, however. In any state. If it is, I would REALLY like to see the state's Constitutional justification for THAT!

The federal government should not have the power to control what you drink, what you eat, when you fap, whatever, so long as they do not infringe upon anyone's rights. Moreover, I see no current Constitutional justification for this, either.

Ahh finally something to be glad for, living in Nebraska, where we can put as much acohol into our beer as we want. So bring it on.

Quick1, get over yourself, farking troglodyte.

My response to your analogy of jacking off was obviously in jest; the drivel that comprises the rest of your last post is so contrived that I have no intention of responding to it seriously.

If you don't like living in the United States, GET OUT. Go to Britain, they don't even have a Constitution. Oh wait! Drugs still seem to be illegal there! Guess you'll have to try the Netherlands. That seems far enough away from me. Good luck to you.

43%: Never had Greenshields. I assume it's similar to the basic Dergy's and Red Oak. No sweat. Had it off tap and enjoyed it with a meal. May be different as an all-night drink. But I'll agree, it's no El Toro.

For the love of everything that's good and right, will one of you San Jose/SF Farkers help them with their site? Please?!?

I'm really happy that Budweiser has to share its branding with the real Budweiser now - another one in the eye of The Man.

They should really have counter-sued American Budweiser under the trade descriptions act for claiming to be beer.

?? some priorities are screwed up. how is 9% beer worse than 99% grain?

i thought things were bad here:
alcohol sales in liquor stores only, no gas stations or grocery stores.
no alcohol sales after 10pm
no alcohol sales on Sunday
no one under 21 can transport any alcohol in a car (even if someone of legal age bought it and is holding it)

but high % beer is legal - sam adams double and triple bock, sierra nevada bigfoot ale - these arent even small microbrews or imports that are available.

what is the beer with the highest % ????????

duuno if its been asked yet, but im too tired to read thru all of the other stupid comments...

Send them Oklahoma next. The Great Beer Underground is ready to rise up.

Actually the swill we get here is by law "a non-intoxicating beverage". They way the statute is written the legislature says you can't get drunk on 3.2 beer.

"But groups like Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) say raising the limit would increase the risk of impairment among underage drinkers for whom beer is the drink of choice."

OK, what's an underage drinker more likely to buy, a $40 case of a higher alcohol beer or a $9 case of Utica Club Lite?

Another very concise example of how the 'high and mighty " rule us little ones....by virtue of being elected to a 'high' office they know and feel much more and better than the little people they rule. And just coincidentally it gives them an opportune to do a little bitty favor for people that give them lots of money, (Coors, Bud...ect.) In my humble experience the higher alcohol beers are not the ones that you would reach for in a chugg a lugg contest....no you reach for a Bud....goes down like water. But the rulers know better than us and decree that we should not drink beers they 'feel' are not good for us, or compete with their holy contributors (which ever comes first) don't worry to much about this little thing though they have many more rules for us little ones....we who have such a great need to be ruled.

I'm attending LU at Thunder Bay, ON. On a recent spring break trip to Duluth, MN (yeah, it was paradise) We all stopped in at the first liqour store we saw in Grand Marais, MN. The girls bought smirnoff ice... it was rated at 5% there but 7% in Canada. Interesting, why would they change it for the US (or change it for Canada?) Also, why isnt there a posted alcohol content on beers in the US? My favorite beer down there mainly cause its cheap is Shlitz regular (not the malt liquor) and its pretty tolerable. The only downside is that you're pis$ing every 5 min cause it takes 12 to get a goot buzz on.

Eat More Possum :
What's the deal with high octane beer? If the objective of drinking is to get drunk you have a problem. For those kind I suggest MD-20, cheaper and just as effective.

Well the objective IS to get a buzz. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar. Otherwise we'd all be drinking O'Doul's.

If it weren't for the buzz effect, wine never would have taken off, because let's face it, the first time ya drink it it tastes like ass.

If I want to get intoxicated, I'll smoke pot. No hangover and fewer bathroom trips.

WarmBeer obviously doesn't appreciate the taste of different beers and wines. If all I cared about was "getting a buzz" I'd drink the cheapest crap I could tolerate. But that's just not the case.

I wish you could actually make a decent tasting low (or non) alcohol beer.

This thread is probably long forgotten but I'm going to reply anyway.

Doodievomit, you live in a Republican society. If you lived in a liberaly society then the government would stay out of your business. But alas, you don't.

If we lived in a hugely liberal society we'd be denied our right to own guns, and hate crime legislation would run rampant (punish for motive rather than the act), and, much like San Francisco, strip clubs would be forced to hire fat women as federal law.

Under a Republican society, thankfully, there IS a chance, however small, of the drug laws being repealed moreso than the Big Nanny Government Democrats -- guess what? One of the conservative movement's most revered opinion publications, the National Review, has taken legalization of marijuana as an official stance, officially declaring the Drug War and it's effects have run contrary to conservative ideals of a Constitutional federal government.

And I've run across many a liberal who believes legalization of drugs would be a bad idea, because it would "put recreational drugs into the hands of Big Corporations". Ooooh, we can't have responsible capitalism doing it's thing (Stalin wouldn't like that!), best we leave drugs to the violent street gangs and other unscrupulous characters eh?

Of course, the best alternative to either a Republican government or a Liberal government would be a government that doesn't cross the established limits of the Constitution, but that won't happen anytime soon, too good to be true ;-)

I had a beer at a McDonald's in Italy (Rome) in '92.
Just to be able to say I had beer at McDonalds.
I think the brand was Peroni.
It was crap.
Italians don't know from good beer.

Anyone who says American beer is crap has never had anything from

Anchor
Otter Creek
Sam Adams
Pyramid
or, frankly, a gajillion other American breweries that make good beer.

Also, beer does not have to be high in alcohol content to be good.
I hear that Guinness has a low alcohol content, maybe 3% or so.* Anyone know for sure?

*plus, it's so filling, you're likely to get full before you get drunk.

And I'm saying beer never would be as popular as it is today if it weren't for the buzz effect. You START drinking it for the buzz...then you MAY truly enjoy it once you've acquired a taste for it. But don't tell me that people, in general, begin drinking beer because they truly loved its taste from day 1. That's pure denial...it ain't just a river in...blah.

We get our shiatty reputation because we export Budweiser and such. Foreigners give us Guinness and such. We send Bud back. Of COURSE they have a low opinion of us.

The strongest beer I've had is this Canadian beer with some kind of demon-satan theme on the label. It was 9%.

Ugh, I can't believe Utah has a 3.2 cap. That's like the weakest bud light in the world. Just freaking terrible.

Heck, I didn't even know states had a cap on beer until now. I guess you get blind to these kinds of laws here in CA. Honestly, having no cap on the alcohol in beer doesn't seem to affect any of the college students, etc. They always buy the cheap, crappy stuff anyway. My feeling is if you give people weak beer, they'll just develop bad, unsophisticated taste. Those laws must be sponsored by Budweiser.
