Cyberluddite: Yeah, she's already been repeatedly tagged with the RINO label by the members of the "base," so if she wanted to run it would have to be as an independent.

If Joe Biden is a one term VP, she would make a cool choice for his replacement

Women

Republican

fiscally conservative, socielly moderate.

Wont put any new states to play but it would work well with Independents and moderate Republicans (if they still exist)

LincolnLogolas: RemyDuron: Yeah, agree. This is, once again, Obama's to lose. And the Republicans have, pretty much, bet the farm on him failing. If he does, it pays off, if it doesn't, well, they will have 4 more years to wander through the desert.

/If you ask me, betting that the economy will be similar to what it is now four years from now is not a good bet, but it's about the only bet the Republicans could make that would pay out the Presidency

Yeah, I don't think "Well Mitt/Sarah/Mike would have made it recover FASTER!" would be a good line of attack, though I've heard Hannity preparing for that one by saying (often, as of late) "If the economy EVER recovers, it will be in SPITE of Obama, not because of him!"

But if someone believes Hannity, at all, odds are they would vote Republican even if the Republican party adopted it as part of its official platform that that person should be executed by means of kicks to the groin. They have to convince people who don't listen to Hannity, Limbaugh, et al.

Burn98: Burn98: The largest single year budget deficit Bush had was $459.5 Billion in 2008. Obama deficit for this year is over $1,000 Billion and still climbing. It is projected to reach $1,086 billion.

Oops! Obama's first deficit is projected to reach $1,286 billion.

What year are you talking about?

The 2009 fiscal budget was submitted originally by Bush in Feb 2008 as the 2009 fiscal year is from Oct '08 to Oct '09.

The deficit Bush had in his 2009 budget was almost $460 billion. BUT that did not include any costs for the war. It not include the TARP funds either.

Now add a $500 billion deficit to the $700 billion TARP bill, the billions Bush gave to GM and other banks before Jan 20th and what is that number?

Hmm, let's see.

500 and 700 alone is 1.2 TRILlION.

Bush alone had OVER $1.2 trillion deficit spending for 2009.

Cagey B: GAT_00: Romney will never get anywhere. He was a centrist as Mass governor, as he needed to be as a Republican governor of that state, and that gives the nutjobs that make up the majority of the GOP plenty of ammunition. He raised taxes as governor, one of his first acts, and he supports civil unions. He isn't getting a nomination.

Don't be so sure about that.

I seem to recall a candidate last time around that the same "RINO RINO RINO" charge thrown at him. The fact that he supported campaign finance reform, cap and trade, judicial filibusters and insulted Falwell (still glad you're dead, btw) made the GOP establishment absolutely loathe him.

Then, the other candidates sucked. They were left with McCain, and they threw their support behind him. Of course, McCain had to backtrack on a lot of that stuff, and backtrack he did. In return, he won the right to get curb stomped.

Don't underestimate Romney's ability to believe in absolutely nothing, Lebowski, and reinvent himself as the party-line GOP establishment candidate. I think he's the odds-on favorite, and I don't think the party will have a difficult time getting behind him if he starts to rattle off a few big primary wins.

Sounds almost like John Kerry.

But he doesn't worship Jesus exactly the same way the Republican base worships Jesus, so he's shiatsu out of luck.

General Zang: the mess created by Republicans

Really? Just the Republicans? The Democrats didn't vote for Iraq or the Patriot Act? The Democrats didn't support high risk loans and pimp Fannie/Freddie? The Democrats haven't been party to wasting taxpayer money at record levels?

The Republicans and Bush can be held accountable for a lot things, but don't absolve the Democrats of allowing or even supporting many of the policies of the Bush administration. And continuing that support under Obama.

As far as the polls go, it really is all about the economy. If we are worse off in 2012 than we were in 2008, even Palin would stand a chance. Don't confuse the (moderately justifiable) vitriol against Palin that liberals and Democrats have for the opinions of all Americans.

2009-07-16 10:27:53 PM
... would also add that running a gazillionaire is maybe not the best way for the Republicans to tap into the anger Americans feel towards the reckless greed by the the rich that put the economy in this mess in the first place.

That's the problems Republicans face ... they can champion small government all they want, but dreamy, free market idealism ain't sellin like it used to. Americans haven't forgotten that this happened under their watch.

So 18 months into his Reagan's Presidency the loss of jobs was still Carter's fault, but seven months after Obama takes office unemployment is entirely his responsiblity.

And you wonder why nobody takes you seriously.

If Charlie Crist wins the 2010 FL Senate race in a landslide, I think the GOP will have to be worried he might decide to contend. A younger, savvier McCain capable of beating Romney and potentially Obama in the right scenario.

That said, it's Obama's election to lose. Gut feeling is Obama himself won't do anything really stupid, but Congressional Dems (most notably Frank and Pelosi) will have pissed off a lot of voters by the next race (change? what change?) - maybe not 1994 all over again, but GOP gains seats. And Obama will be hurt by association. But likely not enough to stop him from getting >50% in 2012.

Dear Republican party,

Since it seems that you really aren't even trying anymore, hows about giving an actual conservative a chance. If you weren't paying attention during the last election, the reason you lost was because you ran people who couldn't talk without stepping all over themselves. They couldn't talk because they had spent the last 8 years doing the complete opposite of what they said they were going to do. People tend to notice these things.

They also notice when a candidate can string together more than 2 sentences without working in a talking point. However, since you're considering this a lost cause anyway, lets run a Ron Paul or a Fred Thompson (if someone can wake him up). At least then, we can have someone that knows what they are talking about, has actually stuck by the things they said they would do, and can talk intelligently about multiple subjects.
Please understand that I made a blood oath when I was younger never to vote for anyone who actually gives a "shout out" in a debate on national TV for a national office. Call me crazy, but I am gonna stick by that oath. The one thing that I will give this lady credit for, is showing how many actual conservatives there are out there waiting for a candidate. She "energizes" people because they actually hear someone say things they believe. Unfortunately, it soon becomes obvious that belief is the only thing she contains.

If I were you guys, I would fly to Alaska and pick up some balls as that seems to be only place left that still has some. Then, I would find me some brains to attach them to.

Thanks
