At the risk of drawing ire and correction, in the most simple terms these folks don't have the concept as in Christian religion where you earn passage to Heaven by merely professing faith and belief in Christ; the only assurance to admittance to Paradise is by emulating the life and teachings of Mohammed... or dying while spreading the word and cause of Islam.

They do not see it as suicide. They see it as admission. I have always felt that we would have a difficult time as Westerners resisting jihad, because we are trying to fight a spiritual matter from a secular standpoint.

I find it telling that the article states most kids want to be martyrs when they grow up; I think that indoctrination is only partly to blame -- the rest is probably crap living conditions.

Crap living conditions is a big part, but these crap living conditions occur in some of the wealthiest countries in the world. The leaders have a vested interest in keeping their population poor, uneducated, and willing to blow themselves up.

And, also, it may not be paradise that the martyrs want, it may just be sex. They have no access to women, and in some of the theocracies the mullahs take most of the women as wives and concubines. Oh, and masturbation and pornography are a big no-no. The easiest way to get some, blow yourself up and claim your virgins.
