Funny, I'm a pussy for thinking logically. I find it reassuring that you people would rather nuke some place just to kill a few people, and put the entire world at danger. Damn, don't you think at all? You nuke a place and it affects the world, the entire world. And you can bet damn sure that, although they condemn the actions against us, other countries around the world WILL retaliate if we launch a nuclear weapon because we also put them in danger.

Sheesh, regardless what has happened so far, we cannot put more innocent lives in danger.

Yeah 5th Column, Iknow, but I wonder how many thought it was Islamic terrorists at first, and how many thought it was a boy like mcveigh.

Quinopio, I meant a bioactive payload brought on board by the bad guys.....

bush on the ground at barksdale AFB, LA.
2001-09-11 12:51:31 PM
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this..
I know people have mentioned that this is a dream for Bush's PR and approval ratings, but, historically, events such as this really help a struggling economy. I guess even this cloud might have a silver lining... but there's still for too much cloud compared to the lining.

"The nation's Mexican border has been sealed off"

-from salon

I thought our border WAS sealed?
2001-09-11 12:51:55 PM
Happylurker, we're not going anywhere from here for now, but we are ready.
2001-09-11 12:52:27 PM
Why don't we stop fighting about this shiat at least until it's all over.
2001-09-11 12:52:31 PM
Hehe, yep nodhg. Sorry, forgot the include the part where i agree with you in my post :(
2001-09-11 12:53:21 PM
It helps people cope I would think, leftover Crack. There is not much we can do about this as civilians, but this is one outlet they have.
2001-09-11 12:53:31 PM
Hey guys I just gave some blood,we can all help, please do the same.
2001-09-11 12:54:10 PM
I just heard on the local news here (WGN TV Chicago) someone was speaking at a press conference or something and they called this "a cowardly attack on our government. We're going to convince these cowards that we will not back down"

Sounds like there's going to be some bloodshed for this once they figure out who did it.
2001-09-11 12:55:05 PM
We need to remain rational in times like this. I hope people in power are trained to remain rational, or we are seriously screwed.
2001-09-11 12:55:05 PM
The question is, Nuke who? Nobody knows for sure who is responsible? That's like bombing Boston because a Right Wing fundamentalist blew up a Womens clinc.
Enough of the Nuke talk. Use your Farking heads.
2001-09-11 12:55:06 PM
This also proves that a missile defense shield wouldn't be all that effective against most types of attacks. This sort of unprecedented attack cannot be defended against, no matter what.
2001-09-11 12:55:25 PM
Personally, I don't care if it's WHITE AMERICAN who did this or BROWN ARAB. Once it is known who did it, they should be erradicated. I would even go so far as to say that every terrorist organization that has anti-American sentiments should be attacked. After all, they would have done the same thing if they would have had the chance. An act of this magnitude crosses the line of "crime" where a trial would be necessary. This was far from a crime. And as far as I am concerned, the Israelis can kill as many Palestinians as they want from this day forward.
2001-09-11 12:56:53 PM
I'd think so, wiseass. From what I'm hearing and reading, it's over 30,000 dead (some estimate 50,000 +).

Things like this really shows you your allies, though. Even France has stepped up and showed sympathy. While not necessarily allies from that, it certinally makes us closer than say, the places where there are people dancing in the streets in celebration...
2001-09-11 12:58:34 PM
lets review
1930-1950 us oil companiies go to middle east discover and develop oil.
local population wandering desert chasing each other
1960-1970 locals take over get filthy rich and screw us oil companies and consumers.
1980-present they still have us by the balls. know a few of them want to destroy us. well maybe the ones that like us need to look after their rowdy peers. they dont and this now happens...its time for us to do what needs to be done. look out for ourseleves and if we have any true friends they will help too.
2001-09-11 12:58:44 PM
I live in college park, i see nothing but hear a few fighters every so often
2001-09-11 12:59:09 PM
not all anti-american groups are pyshically violent. Some use political paths to attack the country. This way does not hurt civilians, and it prefered compared to something like this.

There also have been confirmed deaths inside the pentagon.

For the fundies and fellow draft-dodgers:

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. matthew 5:9

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; matthew 5:44

I wouldn't like to see the sort of panic that follows these sorts of disasters.
2001-09-11 01:00:05 PM
Let's not start more racism because of this. Keep in mind that if something similar happened to Iraq or something, we'd react somewhat like the Palestinians....maybe not dancing in the streets but we wouldn't show too much sympathy.
2001-09-11 01:00:23 PM
"This also proves that a missile defense shield wouldn't be all that effective against most types of attacks."

In all fairness, you can't compare this to a nuclear attack. Apples and oranges. It's not supposed to be a fully comprehensive defense system; just for the worst kind, the kind that causes the deaths of MILLIONS.
You don't read about a double murder in the paper and say "Well, guess we should scrap the SDI since it wouldn't protect us from that kind of attack."
Am I saying we shouldn't prepare ourselves for these types of attacks in the future? No. I'm saying that building a missile shield is a completely separate matter.

Red Cross is asking for all NY State-certified psychological workers to please come to help at downtown centers.
2001-09-11 01:01:14 PM
Us strikes back, attacks, as suggested here, anyonee with strong anti-US sentiment, anyone who could have possibly been responsible.

that is terrorism, the same as this. we would be no better. that is not an answer.
2001-09-11 01:01:55 PM
Im writing from London.
We just got evacuated form our Reuters building in the city and all the tubes (subways for you yanks)are down due to attack on America.
We couldn't work anyway as all our time was spent glued to CNN etc. Thats some serious shiat going down over there and i hope whoever is responsible gets their come uppance(?).
2001-09-11 01:02:11 PM
The rammifications of this are astounding. The world is going to give the U.S. a lot af leeway in doing whatever it wants to go after those responsible. We are the baddest boy on the block and someone sucker punched us. Once we shake it off there wil be hell to pay and no one will stand in our way.
Escalation is possible. I hope it doesn't get out of control.
And Evildog. You are right in that the US is going to tell the Pelestinians that all bets are off and good luck. The reaction by their citizens will turn the US public against them and we will have no more pity for Palestine.

Anyway. Be safe everyone. I am going to try and go eat.
2001-09-11 01:02:30 PM
Platitudes are just so much hot air. We've poured uncounted billions into every corner of the world when catastrophes occur. High time for some back payments -- money, blood donations, supplies, military help...
2001-09-11 01:03:39 PM
Yea lets nuke some major oil reserves. Let's kill some innocent people, I am pissed and I want BLOOD but let's get those responsible. I won't put up with fundamentalists at all any more. I don't care what God you worship. This is what you get when let them thrive. Not all Muslims are bad, they are not all fundamentalists....there is an insidious evil black core at the center of most religions........This is the rot we need to eradicate. People need to learn tolerance and respect for the beliefs of others this is the highest form of humanity. I believe extremists of all denominations hold some responsibility for this tragedy.

I just got back from a quick drive up I-95 here in CT. One of those light up signs said "NYC BRIDGES CLOSED - AVOID AREA!!!"
This is really weird.

And thanks for checking in, Hamilton. I've been curious about overseas goings on.
2001-09-11 01:05:44 PM
A United Airlines Jet (unknown international flight) has just landed in Edmonton, Alberta, and Emergency crews and police around the plane. It is being kept away from the main terminal. It's probably just a precaution due to it being a U.S. bound flight.
2001-09-11 01:06:20 PM
Jiggs: good point. I bet France lets us fly over them now.
2001-09-11 01:07:52 PM
That's what I was thinking, Freddy. But we gave out of compassion. While other countries have compassion, I doubt they have very much to spare. I don't mean to sound arrogant
2001-09-11 01:08:05 PM
Jspanish: Cheesus is right... This has to be one of the biggest tragedies I have seen in my life (19yrs.) and I don't know how to take it. Luckily I didn't have any friends or relitives in that building, but I am sorry for anyone who did. I must admit, when I first saw the story, I said "Bomb them! Kill whoever did this" but I have to agree with anyone not siding with that idea. The fact that these buildings are completely gone gives me a chill. But, how can you say killing them is the right thing to do? That would make no sense at all... we see what they did as wrong, so if we bomb them, it's ok?? that doesn't seem right... I agree with mute fully... who do we attack? The no. 1 target would have to be Bin Laden but we still don't know if he did it or not. This is crazziness. I have never seen anything like this. I'm reading the salon article and trying to take this all in. So much has happened in the span of a few hours, it's almost amazing. This is really all I can think of saying. I hope for the best for anyone who has anything to do with this attack.
2001-09-11 01:08:20 PM
I just heard a report that the west wing of the Pentagon (aka: the section that was hit) is where the offices for Army Intel are located. Can anyone confirm this?
2001-09-11 01:10:14 PM
CNN has gone to circa 1994 design... damn, when this is over we have to expand Web bandwidth...
2001-09-11 01:10:37 PM
If goes down i have mirrod that story on

I have never been so horrified in my life at seeing the film of the WTC's collapsing, ever.
2001-09-11 01:13:29 PM
Christ jesus. I am speechless.
2001-09-11 01:13:46 PM
Bush just spoke... he said that these attacks will not stand, the people will not get away, and that these people will be punished.
2001-09-11 01:14:14 PM
Since I pasted in the other discussions, here ya go. Something to think about.

In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb" , "The third big war will begin when the big city is burning"
- Nostradamus 1654

Now where are all the people that s'posed to say... "ain't it a shame?" You see what I was talking about in the Alayah thread? Plus, what about the 72 hour before you poke fun at the dead? Does that apply here?

I have an interesting question here...... would this have happened if Clinton were still president?
2001-09-11 01:15:49 PM
would you please stop quoting one cares about that shiat.
2001-09-11 01:15:59 PM
FifthColumn: Human assistance might be the most important thing they can give...volunteer help, blood donations, that sort of thing.
2001-09-11 01:16:08 PM
Interesting read, Fastjeff. However, I don't think we want a political debate right now :( Nearly all of us are too preoccupied with what's going on around us right now :(
2001-09-11 01:17:20 PM
Woud this have happened if Clinton were still president?

What the crap kind of question is that? This is not an attack on our President, it's an attack on the country. Man, explain yourself before the troll-alarms go off.
