From another article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090715/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_iran_plane

The plane's tail burst into flames in the air and it circled in the air as if looking for a place to land before it crashed.

emergency workers and witnesses picked around the shredded metal for bodies and flight data recorders to determine the cause of the crash.

Really? You need a black box to determine the tail on fire may have caused the crash?

Every person of every country blames everything from stubbing their toe to getting crabs from the town girl on the US. Americans even blame each other for everything. I think they were more trying to figure out why the plane's tail was on fire.

My guess is that it was from all the accusations towards Iran's gov't of 'liar liar'

Tony Scott nearly killed Denzel's career with major dog Deja Vu, so I don't know why Washington would work with him again anyway.

FTA: "Television pictures also showed a large crater gouged into farmland with mangled pieces of metal scattered around."

So it's safe to say that this crash didn't happen in Pennsylvania, due to wreckage being found?

MugzyBrown:

Concerning an A330 crash at an air show in France; a Discovery Channel documentary on this plane indicates that Air France had their best pilot on this plane and that computer was the cause:

http://www.youtube.com/v/fX4_Ho992TQ

There are so many factual errors in that video it's crazy.

That Habsheim crash was not "The first plane flown by a computer", the pilot was flying manually via a FBW system, a totally different situation. The F-22 Raptor is FBW, is that crap too?

The pilot doesnt "Set the computer and let it fly the plane" any differently to autopilots that have been on civil aircraft, including Boeings, since the seventies. If the pilot "simply monitors the computer" then why does he have a joystick?

It wasn't FBW that got rid of the third man in the cockpit, the 747 lost the navigator years ago and it's never been FBW.

I like the quote CNN had from the local police chief, all 168 were "most probably dead" like he's too busy to check.

Here's why Boeing rules:

Boeing B-17G 42-38078 "Sweet Pea", 429th BS/2nd BG, nearly split in half by a flak burst next to the aircraft on 21 Sept 1944. At least one gunner was killed instantly, another later died of his wounds, several crewmembers were severely injured... but the pilots managed to fly the aircraft several hundred miles back to their base and land safely.

When the aft entry door was opened, the fuselage finally broke in two.

The most amazing thing is, the aircraft was repaired and put back into service... it ultimately crashed on landing at Bari in June of 1945 and burned out.

This is the kind of candid commentary you just don't find here in America.

Also common if they were saved by time-travelers who transport them to a future place and time for some far-out reason.

Just sayin, there's always hope.

I think it might get boring if you look at the rest of the world as one group of people rather than individual regions with individual gripes concerning American interference in their countries. Let's face it, the US has had it's fingers in an awful lot of pies since WW2.

On this issue though, either the plane was ok to fly or it wasn't. You can't blame the lack of spare parts after the fact if you declare something as safe beforehand.

I'm not Tatsuma, but let me see if I can summarize the situation for all of you:

Pilots: these are people who fly the planes.

AirCrew: Includes all staff, flight attendants and pilots

Passengers: these are people who paid to ride the plane to a destination.

Ground: where planes leave from and return to. Ususally in a controlled manner.

Iran: a country with an airline.

Tupolev: a Russian company that makes planes.

Casualties: dead people.

*whew!* There, I hope that cleared it up for everyone.

Do Americans ever get bored being blamed for everything? Not angry or defensive or anything like that; just bored.

I think they've developed a persecution complex and a tendency to take everything personal.

Maintenance of American stuff being difficult because they aren't allowed to buy spares, have to rely on aging or Russian planes etc sounds like reasonable facts and a possible explanation for an increased number of accidents to me - but not "Your fault!".
Heck, the Russians could be pissed off because it's implied their technology is inferior.

If I were looking to assign blame, I would take a look at the people who make the risk/benefit analysis and let planes take off that are duct-taped together.

Now, if you feel you share some of the responsibility by making that decision more difficult for them by refusing to sell them better stuff, that's between you and your conscience.
Either stop the embargo then or man up and accept the consequences and side-effects of not-so-nice actions.

But quit whining about being "blamed" for everything.

Noirceuil: I wonder how many protesters were on that flight? You'll find out later that they put many protesters on a flight to whisk them out of the country, purely for humanitarian purposes you see.

As they didn't like the current government, we thought we'd send them to live in Armenia, so they can do as they please. It's so weird though a mysterious explosion destroyed the plane. It's such a shame though the bodies were burned so badly. Don't worry though, even though this would hide any physical torture we may have applied, we didn't do any! They were taken care of, we gave them ice cream and everything!

I was thinking like that yeah. Or maybe it was a plane full of refugees and the government blew it out of the sky.
