Bongs and pipes: bad. Guns: good. Man, that Ashcroft has impeccable logic.

2003-02-25 02:02:55 AM
it's a good thing all the terrorists, nigerian scammers and dishonest politicians are all in jail so the justice department can pursue a few dopers.

i remember the good old days when you could walk into The Head Shed or Boogie Records and just buy a nice bong or a pipe, untroubled by law enforcement's meager concerns. man, those were the days. i miss 'em sometimes, although i don't touch the stuff anymore.

as for the wretched hitler youth leftovers running the government, i won't say here where there's still - and always will be - an ample selection of "smoking accessories."

Democrats support the drug war too. Freedom, we hardly knew ye.

Bongs, pipes and Rolling papers? Did your mind leave a number it could be reached at? That's like not selling drinking glasses to anyone who is under 21, because they may be used for alcohol. It's legal in several states,(NY included) to walk in and buy HYPODERMIC NEEDLES without a prescription. Pipes and papers could in theory, be used for just about anything. No one mainlines tobacco. NOW they are just testing the waters to see how much people will put up with. Obviously, alot. Oh wait a minute, I disagreed with the "policy du jour", I wouldn't want to do THAT. It's anti American. Never mind. Assholes.

Oh how ever will I smoke pot without a gas mask bong (which does sound worth trying...) or a lipstick hidden pipe.

Now I can't ever smoke pot again.

Oh, I'll smoke it in a sobe bottle with knife hits, or buy some pipes from the hardware store or roll a joint or smoke it from a pop can. You can even make a pipe from a straw and an apple. Or I'll use the stuff from the canada store. Or I'll take a pottery class and make a pipe or a bong there, or I'll go to a hippie store and buy a bong or a pipe or I'll buy a tobacco pipe and smoke from that, or I'll eat it, or I'll bake it in brownies and eat it, or I'll soak it in vodka and drink it. Or I'll pack some into some piping from the hardware store add lighter fluid to extract the cannabanoids let the lighter fluid run off, and then let the ligher fluid evaporate then add the leftover to my cigar/cigarette and get a very very nice high off of crappy pot and a little work, or I'll do gravity hits, or I'll make pot butter and spread it on bread, or I'll take a nice nug and put it on a cracker with cheese (cheese covers pot) and eat that, or I'll eat it plain, or I'll roll a blunt or I'll extract it from a milky fat, and make whipped cream by adding it to a steel container and adding nitrous or CO2. Then I can take a hit by putting the dispenser in my mouth and pulling. Instead of whipping cream, pot cream, or I'll use a friends paraphanelia.

Whew I was worried for a second.

ALSO

I think they raided Tommy Chong so as to distract the media from the other 54 people whos lives were ruined by the war on drugs. If any farkers get put on a jury from one of these cases, refuse to convict, and don't be part of ruining someones life for something that shouldn't be a crime and is only the result of moralizing people trying to controll people in ways that people ought not be controlled by their government.

[ posted several times to threads that didn't make it to regular fark ]

Jesus farkin CHRIST.

Ashcroft is the AG. It's his JOB to bust people breaking the law.

According to the letter of the law, these shops were BREAKING THE LAW.

If you don't like the law, it is your right as Americans to CHANGE THE LAW.

When his agency doesn't enforce the laws, you biatch. When they enforce the laws, you biatch.

You can't have it both ways unless you actively work to change the laws you don't like. And when it has been clearly shown for DECADES that the laws you don't like are still showing the will of the majority, you suck it up and SHUT THE fark UP.

[ further enhancement here ]

You people that biatch and moan about the size of the US government and the size of the law enforcement agencies of the same are the first to piss and whine about "oh, but we haven't found bin laden yet"... Has it occured to you that we can do two things at once? Has it occured to you that the AG's office is big enough to handle multiple things at a time? Or maybe that bin Laden isn't even in the DEA's jurisdiction?

Good freakin GOD. The outcries from the left would have a lot more weight behind them if they bothered to know what the hell they were talking about!

I'm surprised to tobacco lobby hasn't SCREAMED out in anger, you'd think Ashcroft's ass is on the line when he goes against big tobacco...

2003-02-25 04:54:07 AM
Oh, and Beer151:

If you make guns illegal, people will find ways to make them. It was done in WW2 by the French Resistance, it has been done in Ireland by the IRA, and it has been done in the US by Joe Legal Hobbbyist.

Explosives and highly lethal toxic gases can be made in your kitchen using perfectly legal products you can buy at your local grocery store.

Just because something can be done by a hobbyist, a zealot, or an outright psycho doesn't mean it's not worth enforcing the laws already on the books and shutting down people making it convenient for people to break the law. Argue it however you like, but bongs and crackpipes are made to BREAK THE LAW.

If we don't enforce some laws, it devalues the rest of them.

In the eventt of a confiscated bong: contrive new one with duct tape and plastic

Oh Loligo, thanks for taking part in a common activity here on Fark. Left Bashing.

Now grow up and realize that it doesn't matter what a person's political leanings are....this isn't right.

2003-02-25 04:59:02 AM
so are the little flower-in-a-tube thingees. They're great...I won't comment further. :x

Time to get creative...Or just start buying soda in cans again.

2003-02-25 05:01:50 AM
There's several head shops near my house. I don't understand how they can be operating just fine for years selling 'tobacco smoking' products, and now all of a sudden come under fire...

I hope Ashcroft one day has kids that smoke weed.

2003-02-25 05:03:29 AM
Unhand my bud vase! [har]

2003-02-25 05:03:42 AM
Actually this touches on something I found really surprising the first time I visited the US (Vegas).

A head shop.

From what I'd read & heard, the DEA were really harsh on paraphernalia, so I was amazed to see a huge shop full of a vast variety of bongs. I was amused by the signs saying they were just for tobacco, and any mention of grass, hash, bong, pipe, and loads of other key words. Mentioning these would mean you wouldn't be served.

2003-02-25 05:04:14 AM
That'll show those dirty hippies.

*goes back to slamming some h*

2003-02-25 05:04:26 AM
Jashter:

My left-bashing is only relevant as far as the people complaining about their government doing what it was elected to do.

I don't see many republicans complaining about the Attorney General doing his job.

If the shoe fits, yadda yadda.

If you have a logical and reasoned argument against anything I've said, feel free to bring it up. Until then, you're just another baseless whiner.

If this "isn't right", change the law. That's all that was done here. Enforcing the law.

No worries, you can make your own carrot bong right at home!

2003-02-25 05:05:34 AM
Powerade bottle
hose pipe
cone piece

all u need to make your own wonderful bong

or "billies" as they are known here in Australia

2003-02-25 05:05:41 AM
Well, pipe. But still, the other thing is pretty cool.

2003-02-25 05:06:40 AM
And just how can they outlaw a glass tube? What if I want to use a professionally-made glass tube to smoke tobacco, shisha, whatever... Shall we outlaw cigarette lighters because they can be used to light a joint?

I don't even smoke weed and I feel like my rights are being violated...

2003-02-25 05:07:21 AM
But the CIA will still bring tons of cocaine in from south america to fund those governments, right?

2003-02-25 05:07:36 AM
FARK THAT SHNIT!!!

If I wasn't stoned right now I would been really pissed off.

2003-02-25 05:08:06 AM
Of all the things Ashcroft could go after, he picks this? Jesus, he's approaching the Bush level of stupidity...

2003-02-25 05:09:09 AM
i for one will smoke weed until i want to quit. i really don't give a fark what any of those yacht clubbing motherfarkers say or do. it doesnt really affect me, i aint walkin round with kilos or anything, but fark you if you tell me i should or shouldnt smoke the shiat.

2003-02-25 05:09:35 AM
I'm going to buy a gun.
It's legal.
I want to go home,
this is the worst trip I've ever been on.
I am really disgusted.

2003-02-25 05:10:32 AM
So is there any way we can get this asshat removed from office? A petition perhaps? I'm not entirely clear on the legal process here, but I know I want to recall him.

2003-02-25 05:12:28 AM
Xonex:

You want to get him removed from office for doing his job?

His job is to enforce the laws of the land, as passed by Congress.

That's what he did here.

If you don't approve of what he did, work to change the law that he enforced. That is your right as an American citizen.

-l

2003-02-25 05:13:23 AM
If this "isn't right", change the law. That's all that was done here. Enforcing the law.

And it really is that easy.

Really, all you have to do is convince enough of the guys in Congress to change the law, in spite of how much money they're pulling in from the tobacco lobby. Let's hope they have enough to overcome the presidential veto.

Or, you can try to convince the Supreme Court (who essentially trumps the concept of medical marijuana based solely on the fact that marijuana is illegal in this country and ignoring any medical merits) to vote that drug laws are unconsitutional.

Either way requires some serious cash. Oh, wait, that's right, this country doesn't have double standards for people with money and power. My mistake.

So, yeah, we'll just have people vote and that will change the laws we don't like.

2003-02-25 05:13:37 AM
Loligo From what I understood of the law, pipes, bongs, etc.. can't/aren't considered to be "paraphenelia" until actually used to consume illegal drugs.

So if I bought a bong, it wouldn't be paraphenelia 'till I smoked pot in it.

So I fail to see how you can bust a pipe shop for selling pipes. And like Xonex brought up--should we go after people selling lighters, just because you may use them illegally?

2003-02-25 05:14:12 AM
Never underestimate the ingenuity of a farker.

2003-02-25 05:14:21 AM
Loligo, do you really think Republicans are going to disagree with a man from their own party very often?

2003-02-25 05:15:05 AM
Oh, for the love of......if you're gonna whine about the enforcement of drug laws, go after the legislators in Congress who wrote and/or refuse to change those laws, not the people who enforce them.

Drinking glasses can be used to drink legal beverages. Hypodermic needles are often used by kids who need daily medication injections. What possible legal use can there be for a gravity bong?

Pipes and papers could in theory, be used for just about anything.

Nothing that couldn't be done with materials not related to illegal drugs.

No one mainlines tobacco. NOW they are just testing the waters to see how much people will put up with. Obviously, alot.

Slippery slope argument = bad form. Just because Ashcroft has increaced enforcement activity does not necessarily mean that he wants to increase it as much as he possibly can. He has an actual, limited goal in mind: to enforce the law.

Jashter
Who's worse? The man who lost to a dead man, or the people who voted for a dead man out of sympathy?

2003-02-25 05:16:25 AM
Another sad day for democracy.

2003-02-25 05:16:48 AM
He has a choice of what to prosecute. He's prosecuting something I feel is frivolous and detrimental to the morale of the country, especially during these tough times of economic uncertainty and looming war.

And quite frankly, I just dislike the guy. I want to remove him. It's my right as an American citizen.

And we all know who really runs the country: the Supreme Court judges. How many times have we, the voters, passed laws to loosen restrictions on things like this (think medical marijuana) only to have them struck down by the courts?

2003-02-25 05:17:46 AM
the bastards already put "chills" guy out of busines in florida. self mad entreprenuer shut down, who are the terrorists?

2003-02-25 05:18:28 AM
So what? Bongs CAN be used to smoke legal substances. Doesn't mean that is always what happens...

should we go after people selling lighters, just because you may use them illegally?

Should we go after people selling guns, just because they MAY be used illegally?

Should we make explosives illegal, just because they MAY be used illegally?

Should we ban DDT, just because it MAY be used in a way that harms the environment?

I can use a Stinger missle to take down a civilian airliner, or I can hang it over my fireplace. Are you willing to sell me one? Are you willing to sell one to anyone that wants one?

Xonex:
He has a choice of what to prosecute.

Well, no, technically, he doesn't. He has the same duty to prosecute terrorists as he does drug dealers. He has the same responsibility to prosecute a bank robber as a junk bond dealer.

His JOB is to enforce the laws of the land. ALL of them.

This is just the opening shot of the new "morals" policy. Porn and the internet will be next, so if you don't complain now, keep your yap shut then.

2003-02-25 05:21:18 AM
If you don't approve of what he did, work to change the law that he enforced. That is your right as an American citizen.

True but isn't there some kind of terror thing I heard about. It's like this assclown is beefing Bullshiat while nuts are running around. Anyone remember what Asscroft investigating before 9-11? A whore house in New Orleans,

pre-9/11, the Justice Department and the FBI had spent more time and resources investigating a suspected brothel in New Orleans than monitoring bin Laden and his terrorist network.

Back to normal

Should we go after people selling guns, just because they MAY be used illegally?

No. That would be rediculous.

Should we make explosives illegal, just because they MAY be used illegally?

Depends on what kinds you're talking about, you know? The common man has no need for C4.

Should we ban DDT, just because it MAY be used in a way that harms the environment?

Yes. And that's why they did it.

I can use a Stinger missle to take down a civilian airliner, or I can hang it over my fireplace. Are you willing to sell me one? Are you willing to sell one to anyone that wants one?

You're not honestly comparing a Bong to a farking Rocket Launcher are you?
