Subby probably should have added "when you are a convicted felon" somewhere in there.

He probably couldn't see that coming.

2009-07-09 03:14:04 PM
Yeah since its cool to have a rifle in the trunk... unless you are a felon.

Is a convicted felon someone who is determined to commit a serious crime? Or someone who has committed a serious crime but is still determined?

Joke fail.

Heh, you know that the police nazis won't accept "no, you may not search my vehicle" as an acceptable answer. They'll pull you out, cuff you, and then search you anyway for threatening them or some other bullshiat.

2009-07-09 03:18:12 PM
That's why they tint the windows.

/when a cop pulls you over, lower all the windows. He/she will feel safer, which will make you safer.

I believe he was on parole which usually means they can search you anytime they want.

I once made the mistake of driving into Canada with 7.62 x 39mm ammunition in the trunk of my car. (Leftover from a trip to an outdoor gun range a few days before.) Hell, I didn't even think about it until I was approaching the border.

/Fortunately, Canadian customs didn't search my car.
//However, U.S. Customs searched it on the way back.
///Either they performed a lazy search, or they didn't care.

They must have suspected he had contraband window tint film in his trunk.

There is also the possiblity that the driver was an idiot and consented to the search.

Q. You don't have any knives, guns, bazookas, nukes in the car do you?
A. No
Q. Then you don't mind if I check right?
A. No

BAM CONSENT

Plus you can consent to a search and then tell the cop to stop at any time.

Not very many, apparently.

One does wonder how many *SMART* criminals take Nancy Reagan's advice to "just say NO", though. Obviously, you can't really quantify something like that, but it would be interesting to know.

Headso: If you had a gun why consent to a search? a dog can't smell it. Tell the cop to eat a bag of rotten dicks.

If you've fired it, they can.

Plus, they can probably smell the ammo also, and cosmoline has a fairly distinctive smell.

Next time I take a commercial flight, just for fun, I'm going to rub some 2F black powder on myself and arrive like 3 or 4 hours early just to have some fun.

"Where's the bomb?"

What bomb?

"We detected explosives on you"

Oh, I was cleaning my flintlock before I left. That must be the black powder you detected.

"Where is it, in your luggage?"

Well, the gun is 54" long. The barrel alone measures 36", and my suitcase measures 28" across the diagonal, so you figure it out...

Yeah, getting strip searched in some airport security office sounds like loads of fun to me too...wait, no it doesn't.

Not reading all the replies but yes. Yes it is.

In our state at least you're not allowed to have tint over a certain level of opacity.

Getting a ticket is slightly different than getting your car searched. Just throwing that out there.

NoLiving: How did this go from tint stop to searching his trunk?

Don't talk to cops.

The article says he also had a suspended license, so it most likely went something like this:

Cop: "Sir, the tint on you window appears to be too dark, and your children are not in car seats. I'm going to have to give you a ticket. Can I see your license, registration, and proof of insurance."

Man: "Here's my registration and insurance, but my license is suspended."

Cop: "Sir, can you step out of the car, I'm going to have to place you under arrest for driving on a suspended license. Your car is going to be impounded and I am going to have to perform a search of the vehicle for inventory purposes."

Either that or he is just an idiot and said, "Yeah go ahead and search it"

2009-07-09 04:23:59 PM
I have 3.9% window tint on my car because I like the privacy during my daily commute, not because I am doing anything illegal. I only get pulled over in Cobb County and that has only been twice over a period of 7 years for a combined ticket total of $130.

/only packs dead hookers in the trunk.

Illegaly tinted windows = illegal, suspended license = illegal, violating probation = illegal. All found before the firearm, what more probable cause do you need then that to suppose something fishy might be in his car?
