Shiat, I JUST ate at a McDonalds today for the first time in years, then I get home to see this greenlight. What's the fastest way to throw up a burger you ate a half hour ago?

"There's always been shiat in the burgers. It is a sad fact of life, Don, but the truth is we all have to eat a little shiat from time to time."

Meat producers have more to fear the public more than the government. When I worked at Wal-Mart during the big Tyson meat recall a few years ago, even though the meat we sold was not affected by the recall people were switching brands. Anything the drives your customers to the competition is to be AVOIDED.

Not to mention that lawsuits from the people/family of those who get sick/die from such events will do more to straighten up a business than some bureaucrats fine.

Of course this is once again another shining example of the "efficiency" of our federal government.

If websites actually checked their headlines for hilarious unintentional puns, we'd have a lot less work to do when we Fark a story.

No kidding. We need to remove all these stupid bureaucratic regulations and just let the market decide. The stuffed coats in the U.S. government have been telling me I can't sell my Patented Mercury Pills for YEARS now.

An interesting question I have posed recently, what would Sinclair's idea of the current situation in the US be, would he condemn obama (seems most likely scenario), or would he applaud him, due to the real goal behind the book, to convert america towards a more leftist ideology in relation to industry? But the real question, one which saddens me deeply, is whether a book such as that is even possible in any sense today? And no, fast food nation doesn't count. I guess we have to ask ourselves how much the practices have really changed since his day, not just in meat production.

That is an interesting question- Actually I always thought of Nader as kind of a modern Sinclair and Michael Moore to some extent. Especially when Moore was doing TV Nation. They both picked up the torch to make America aware. They've both dropped it since then though.

hmmmm.... I will give you nader circa 20-30 years ago concerning the seat belt campaigns, and maybe sinclair would have suffered the same message fatigue if he hadn't given up writing all together. moore's general malaise spiced with bouts of specifics, plus his unsavory tendency towards sappy guilt trips (admittedly later in his career esp. columbine) sort of cuts him in my book. In fact he may suffer from the same problem as sinclair, the manner in which he presents himself in fact detracts from the core of his message. What I find truly amusing is how the jungle is becoming more and more relevant in regards to immigration, socialism/communism and its reactionary opponents, food safety, economic disparity and the proliferation of corporate control on the means of production, Monsanto (i will assume from reading your posts in previous threads you know them) is suspiciously like the Big Meats of his era in how they monopolize all stages of their product. Your thoughts?

I think there was cat litter in my chipotle chicken wrap last night. Screw it, I'm shifting vegetarian. Sure, tons of animals are slaughtered in the harvest, but at least I can wash a carrot, look at the carrot and scarcely wonder what's tainted and rotting about it.

People just don't care enough to provide me with meat that isn't of questionable origin.

Having the government take a dump on our meat will not make us safer. Inspectios without enforcement authority are more important than recalls -- sunlight is the best remedy.

I think you're exactly right on every account- personally, I feel this is exactly why we need labor unions. Yes, I agree unions have killed themselves (one main reason is they became as bloated as the companies, and they lost sight of the fact the company has to be profitable) I've worked in several industrial settings some union, some not and I'd say hands down I'd rather work in a union shop. We had a great union though, people came to meetings, gave input etc. One non-union shop I worked for we averaged a death or serious injury a year. The OSHA rep was for hire to the highest bidder and would often "over look" a lot of safety concerns. But union shops, with people who are involved an actually give a shiat will keep a lot of employer shenanigans in check.

Just finished reading this.
g-ecx.images-amazon.com

It was pretty interesting. It basically says all mass-produced food (meat, fruits and veggies) are pretty messed up with pesticides, hormones and genetically engineered garbage.

The main message is shop local fruits, veggies and meats and the nutritional value of your food will increase by leaps and bounds.

(copied relevant text)

hah, jokes my friend, this is fark right?

I agree with you about the need of unions, and their tendency toward corruption, but for me the real relationship needs to be built between unions, (part two of the chain) and consumers (third and final part), against the aggregation of power taking place, consumer advocacy has become a price based movement, exactly the opposite of what it could be. The saddest thing is that the consumer identity is the only one we all share, for those higher up it is simply subjugated by others, but then again is it this recognition of a consumerist identity that lead us to the details of your post? In trying to avoid circular reasoning I will simply bring the discussion back to its base (circular, durrr), Jurgus Rudkus and one of my favorite scenes, when he receives the 100$ bill and wants to change it, the bartender takes his money, gives him the change for a ten and tells him to fark off...leading to his decision to go to the meetings for the socialists, for me highlighting the eternal potential for one individual to screw another...how in any organization do we get around this?
oh god futility,

thanks for the thoughts

If anyone destroys the USA, it will be the people who demand completely sterile and hormone-free products, lobbying the government until they manage to shut down the entire food and utility industry with psychotic regulations based on their derranged expectations.

Every single thing you eat and drink will always contain a quantity of poop, even the vegetables. You think you can wash every microscopic speck of "organic fertilizer" off a carrot? You have better than 50/50 odds to be saturating it with more dangerous bacteria and funguses than the poo you're struggling to wash off.

Seriously, it's getting to the point where people will just have to learn to eat shiat or die.
